"Well these gifts that we will give you will act like," Sam paused for a second trying to think of the right word," like a dam. They will help you to channel your power and keep you from 'popping'. But once you start get to know your powers and how to use them efficiently the 'dam' will let up."

"But how do you know that it works?" I asked suspiciously. "There was this one book I read that..."

"How do know anything" Lillith burst out angrily, "how could you know that we were the elementals, how could you know so much about this place, how could you know how elemental powers work, you have no proof!"

Haven
~~~~~
I jumped at Lilith's outburst. Now, usually, I wouldn't care a bit if girls were going all angsty, but I don't know...maybe I was still in shock from everything that had happened.
"Hey, calm down, okay?" I said to her. "You don't have to go all mental on him. He's just trying to explain stuff, and you're not making it any easier on anyone..." I said, trailing off as I felt everyone's eyes on me.
~~~~

lol, short, I just felt like I hadn't been posting at all....wanted to get my two cents in lol.

I stared openly at this dude...Haven, wasn't it? And then I got angry. I hate it when people correct me and are actually right in doing so. It makes me mad knowing I did something wrong. I guess my guilt is really weird like that.

"I have every right to "go mental on him" as you so kindly put it." I started in an evily calm voice, hoping my eyes were as sharp as I wanted them to be, "so suggest you, also very kindly, shut it."

Twili looked at me, more than a little bit shocked. Crap! My nerves are getting to me again. I was thinking about apologizing when Kneph seemed to come back from his own little world.

"Hypocrite." He said, glaring at me, "You shut up and listen to Sam. Whether you like it or not, they're our only chance right now."

And I shut up. So. Not. Fair.

Erica-

I swallowed and tried to stop from trembling. The tension in the air was becoming thicker. The thunder outside was setting the mood and the two adults looked at each other nervously. I shook as the thunder rolled again and saw Gregory look at me with worry in his eyes. I gave him a smile and concentrated on the fire.

"Just out of curiosity," Caleb broke the tension, "What is everyone else's element? We should just asume that these guys are telling the truth for now and go along with it so..."

"Well," said Jaden, "if you all agree that this is the last question tonight I'll answer it."

Even though some of us hesitated we all eventually gave our word that this would be the last question of the night.

"Okay then," continued Jaden, pointing at each of us in turn, "Twili is Darkness, Gregory is Air, Erica is Water, Haven is Light, Lilith is Beasts, Kneph is Spirit, Dusty is Fire, and Kaleb is Earth. Now I suggest you all get a good nights rest, we have a long day tomorrow." Then she immediately rose up and walked to the front of the cave.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow," said Sam following Jaden.

"You know," I whispered to Erica, "I think I liked today."

I glared at Lilith, my customary anger boiling up to take the place of whatever crazy notion had gotten into my head to be helpful. I halfway listened to the older ones talking with the adults, not really paying attention until I heard my name. Light. I had almost forgotten about that. Me? Light? Good grief, what a joke.
I watched as Sam and Jaden walked off together. For some reason that stupid K-I-S-S-I-N-G song started playing in my head. I shook it hard to rid it of the awful mental picture, and then turned to face Erica.

Correction. I turned to face Erica and Gregory. With Gregory whispering in Erica's ear. Practically on top of her.

I don't guess that I thought much, but I grabbed Erica's arm and started to lead her back into the cave where the rest of the kids were. "Come on, let's go," I said, shooting a glare at Gregory over my shoulder

Jaden-

Is this how we acted? We weren’t as bad as all that were we? The questions piled on top of each other in my head. Sam had walked over to the mouth of the cave with me (don’t know why). He also seemed to know my thoughts… typical.

“I think we were a tad bit curious like they are.”

“No one made a he outburst at our explanation.”

“That’s because the mentors we had explained everything. You are trying to keep stuff in the dark.”

I sat down by the cave and felt the mist from the rain. I love the rain, and controlling it was a beautiful sensation. But now that sensation is gone and I am stuck feeling, but not controlling that which I feel.

“Well, goodnight Jaden.” Sam walked away and found himself a side of the cave which had not been taken yet. I sighed and rubbed my temples. This was not going to get any easier.

I finally fell asleep, the light mist washing over me gently.

I sat there for a second shocked by Havens actions. "What's his problem?" I asked myself. I tried figuring out why Haven acted the way he did, but the only thing that made sense to me was that he must like Erica, a lot, and he must hate me, a lot. Why he hated me, I didn't know, but I could easily see why he liked Erica.

--------------------------------------------------------

Only Jaden and Haven were awake when I woke up. Haven glared at me from the back of the cave, his eyes reflecting the embers of the dying fire. But Jaden was friendlier; I decided to accept the invitation when she waved me up to the front of the cave.

"The sunrises here are magnificent," Jaden said, "I'm so glad you got up early enough to see this one."

"Why isn't Haven watching it?" I asked.

She shrugged, "He didn't want to."

After that we didn't talk, but Jaden was right, this wasn't any ordinary sunrise. If I had to guess, I would say that every single color was up in the sky. But instead of clashing against each other, they worked together and made a painting no artist could paint. But suddenly before I knew it the sun was up, and the painting was gone.

Jaden-

I sighed as the sun rose higher into the sky, banishing all the wonderful colors. The look on Gregory’s face reflected my feelings.

“They never last long. One minute it is there, and after you blink it is gone.”

“Unfortunately,” Gregory grumbled.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Yes, well we should probably wake the others. The sooner we leave the faster we will arrive at the temple.”

“Why so early?” Gregory asked.

“It’s a weeks journey from her to the temple and that is at full speed and almost no breaks. Knowing you teenagers, you’ll probably have to stop quite a few times.”

“That long?”

“Unfortunately the books don’t always explain how long it takes to get from one place to another. Just be glad it isn’t a month.”

I saw the confused look on Gregory’s face but brushed it off, going to wake Sam so that he and I could wake the others. It’s his job as an “adult” to help.

I slowly blinked awake and winced at the sudden burst of light. I sighed and realized that the stone I was leaning against was cold. How had I got here again?

Haven dragged me away from Gregory. I raised my hand and let myself be dragged away. He finally stopped and I snatched my arm away angrily.

“What’s the big idea?” I asked, he just looked down and I realized how I sounded, “Sorry.” I amended immediately; I’m just really tired from all of this.”

He nodded and I sighed, realizing how bad I was acting. I sat down and leaned against the stone wall and Haven followed suite. My exhaustion finally showed itself.

“You know, you’re right. This place feels familiar. And I really do want to stay here but…I can’t.”

I closed my eyes and had drifted off into sleep.

Oh…wow…that’s the deepest thing I’ve said to anyone outside my family. I must have been REALLY tired. I never did ask Haven what he meant...

~~~~~~
Sorry, I don't have a lot of time. Just to let you know, Lillith is cranky when she wakes up...hehe.
“Come on everybody, rise and shine!” said Jaden cheerfully as she and Sam went around the room shaking whoever was still asleep.
“What time is it?” asked Dusty.
“About five o’clock,” answered Sam, “but an Eniyeth day is twenty hours long.”
“So even time is different?” Lilith said scowling.
“Well,” said Sam, “actually seconds, minutes, and hours all represent the amount of time that they do on your world. But here there are twenty hours in a day, five days in a week, 39 days in a month and eight months in a year.”
“Sam,” Jaden said, “we really need to get going soon and I’d like everybody to eat before that.”
We all quickly packed up and ate our breakfast. It consisted of some leaves that looked and tasted like lettuce, but at least it was energizing.
Caleb:
Caleb chewed on the food forcing it down. It wasn't meat, but at least it was food. His kept getting uncooked when he touched it with his hands so he just ate it with a fork. Dusty frowned at the leaf but ate her's looking around.
"Can we go yet?" Dusty demanded. She had always been impatient about things she knew nothing about and was curious about.
"Take a chill pill, sis." He said smiling at her and putting more leaves on her plate. SHe glared at him. "Eat." She ate what was on her plate not wanting to waste it. But as soon as she was done she cleaned off the plate putting it back where they had gotten them.
“Why are we eating leaves?” Haven asked.
“They are not technically leaves… but it is for humbling reasons. If we are to make it to the temple and be allowed within twenty feet of the place, you all need to be extremly humble. But not in the cut yourself, my life is worthless way.”
That was a horrible explanation, but I think they all got my point. We finished breakfast and walked out of the cave, the sun was a wonderful comfort.
“So where do we go first?” Gregory asked.
“Through this wood and then over a mountain range that will take us to the desert.”
Gregory nodded, but all the teenagers looked a bit uncomfortable at the directions I gave them.
“Don’t worry everybody, it’ll be like a hike,” said Sam.
“An extremly long hike that will kill us by the end… ugh, excersise,” Lillith muttered under her breath.
"By the way, I do believe that we will be very humble because there are no TOILETS!!!!!!"
Suddenly realization came on all of us. It was very funny. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people had the sudden urge to pee after I said that.
Ahh, the miracle of being right.
I rolled my eyes at Lillith’s statement. “There are the woods and if we ever come across a village, outhouses. There is no need to worry.”
The teenagers all threw me a ‘yeah right’ glance, but with a little persuasion (and after everyone was done using the trees) we began the hike through the trees. It wasn’t that bad from my point of view. There were a few bugs, but there was no sign of theives or wild animals, so it was all good.
Before anyone knew it, it was sun set and we were making a fire and ready for another meal of meal-leaves (the stuff we had for breakfast).
