(What's the matter with you guys? How is it that you can't think of anything to write and I can come up with something like a volcano blowing up? lol)

The ground shook as the volcano in the distance erupted. A small makeshift aqueduct the villagers had constructed collapsed from the violent vibrations.

Tyrant wrapped his arms around the panic stricken Renian and brought them both to their knees to keep them safe from the vibrations. Karana did the same and got to her knees. At least this way she wouldn't lose her balance and fall on her face.

She looked up at the volcano to see if it would end anytime soon. Being an elf meant her senses were substantially greater than a humans. They weren't as good as a demon's, but good enough that she could see something coming a mile away.

As she looked up at the mountain she saw two figures moving down the face of the volcano. At first she thought she had just imagined it, so she closed her eyes and opened them to look again. The two figures were still there, trying to outrun the river of lava and the constant boulders of magma raining down from the crater.

It went on for about ten minutes before the vibrations began to weaken. Karana got to her feet when they were reduced to a mere hum in the ground. The eruption had stopped and Fire Mountain looked... peaceful. Before it looked lively with all the smoke, but now the smoke was gone. It was as if the volcano was inactive, as if it was no longer a volcano anymore but a large mountain with a crater.

What caused Fire Mountain to die out like this? Karana thought.

(Are you guys going to make me do all the work?)

"Do you see that?" Renian asked.

"Yeah," Tyrant said. "Fire Mountain is no longer active. That volcano is supposedly over 4000-years-old and it just died out before our eyes!"

"How is that possible?" Karana asked.

Tyrant shook his head. "I don't know."

"Let's find the inn," Renian suggested. "We should rent out a room so we have a place to stay until we figure out what to do next." They all went to the village's inn and rented out a room.

A few hours later they were sitting in their room eating lunch and thinking of what to do next. They're lives had all completely changed over one night. They're homes were gone and so were their families, for those who had them in the first place. They had no place to call home.

"So, what do we do now?" Renian asked.

"Our first priority is to find jobs so we can earn some money," Tyrant said. "After that we should probably find some place to live."

"We could always live on the road," Karana suggested. "This is actually the first time I've been on my own, and I've always wanted to travel."

"That's a possibility," Tyrant said, "but we still need to find jobs."

"Where can we find work in such a tiny vi-" Renian stopped speaking when she heard the sound of screams coming from outside.

All three of them scrambled to the window to see what was going on. Demons were attacking the villagers. They looked like giant pigs with human shaped bodies and wielded large axes.

"We've got to help the villagers!" Tyrant said as he pulled out his dagger and vaulted out the window. Karana and Renian grabbed their weapons and followed his lead.

One of the demons saw them coming. It roared and started to charge at them. Karana shot an arrow into the demon's eye. Tyrant took the chance to knock it down and plunge his dagger into its neck.

Renian shouted, "Karana, look out!" Karana turned to see another demon rushing her. Renian jumped in and slashed the beast's chest open with her katanas.

The three of them soon found themselves overwhelmed. They were surrounded by demons, outnumbered three to one each. "This doesn't look good," Tyrant said.

One of the demons suddenly rushed forward at Karana. Renian yelled, "Look out!" but there was nothing they could do to stop it.

"Oraza!"

A ball of fire came from out of no where and hit the demon square in the chest, throwing it a few yards away.

"What was that?" Tyrant asked. Before anyone could answer another demon charged forward, axe in hand. The three of them braced themselves for the oncoming attack.

The only thing they saw was a brown blur as the demon's chest was suddenly ripped open. A man in a brown cloak was suddenly standing between them and the pig demons. Immediately they knew he was a Dragon Knight because of the four silver wings growing out of his back. He held in his hand a blue sword with strange inscriptions on either side. Hanging from the handle by a piece of metal wire was a fang.

"Who is that guy?" Renian asked.

Karana shook her head. "I don't know."

Three of the demons dropped their axes and retrieved their bows and arrows from their backs. As they aimed the man held out his hand and said, "Zuu Kkumnuss!"

The demons fired the arrows, only to have them deflected by a blue dome of energy that suddenly appeared around the man. Before the demons had a chance to react the Dragon Knight rushed forward and slayed each one of them.

The last four demons went after the Dragon Knight. He merely looked at them and held out his hand. "Mozago!" The demons were suddenly thrown back by an invisible force. When the demons got to their feet they finally realized how much danger they were in. The man made no attempt to go after the demons as they ran into the forest.

The Dragon Knight placed his sword in its sheathe and began to walk toward Karana, Renian and Tyrant. Tyrant and Renian both readied themselves for a fight. Karana looked at them and said, "If he was going to hurt us he would have done it by now." Tyrant and Renian looked at each other for a moment then relaxed and lowered their weapons.

Karana turned to them man who had saved them. She couldn't see his face under the draped of his hood. "Whoever you are, thank you for helping us." The man grabbed the front of his hood and pulled it back to reveal his face. Karana let out a gasp as she stared at his face. So taken aback by shock it took her a few tries before she could say, "...Kai?"

**Sorry, I was gonna post, but I couldn't get to a computer! Gah!**

Karana

Kai. It was Kai! He was alive!

I was frozen in place. I couldn't move. I felt like I wasn't breathing either.

Tyrant and Renian shifted beside me. "You know this guy?" one of them asked. I was too shocked to tell who.

Kai was alive.

He smiled at me, obviously waiting to see my coming reaction. "Are you all right, Karana?"

I didn't know. All I knew was that I was not alone. I still had someone in this world. I still had my Kai.

My Kai.

Before I realized what I was doing, I stepped forward and reached out to touch his face, his shoulder, his arm. Yes, he was there. He was real. When he watched me and maintained that smile, I lost it. My tears came, and I jumped into him. Arms around him, I began to cry.

"I was worried about you," Kai said to me as I wept.

"I was s-so w-w-worried! I w-was afraid you had d-died! I thought I had l-lost you!" I wanted to scream, but I didn't.

I didn't even give him a chance to respond.

I stood taller so that I could reach him, and I kissed him.

After a moment Karana finally realized what she was doing. Wait, she thought, what am I doing? I'm kissing Kai! She pulled back so suddenly that it made them both stumble. Karana's face was red as she looked at her feet.

Kai let out a small laugh. "Well, you sure seem happy to see me."

Karana looked up at him again, trying to overcome her embarrassment. "How did you escape?" she asked.

Kai's smile dropped for a moment. "What do you mean?" he asked. "Shouldn't I be asking you why you're out here?"

"When the dragon came and the demons attacked I thought for sure you-"

"Whoa, whoa," Kai interrupted, "back up for a second. What's this you're saying about demons and dragons?"

"Don't you remember what happened to Kuri City the other night?" Karana asked.

"Why, did something happen?"

Karana told him everything that happened between now and the last time they saw each other. She told him about how the dragon appeared over Kuri City and demons started attacking everyone. "So how did you escape?" Karana asked when she was finished.

Kai's face had gone serious after hearing Karana's story. "I didn't," he told her. "I wasn't there when it happened."

"What do you mean?" Karana felt a painful pang in her heart when she realized something. "Wait, where's your mother? Is she..."

Kai closed his eyes and told her what had happened to him, how the soldiers had come to his house and killed his mother before his very eyes. How he blacked out and woke up covered in blood. How more soldiers came in and shot him down with crossbows. Tears were running down his face by the time he was finished.

** I don't have much**

TYrant---

Tyrant looked at the two. He dind't know what to do. Obviously this guy wasn't a threat, but who was he? He looked at Renian, "Um, maybe we should go back inside and let them get caught up?" He said rasing an eyebrow. She nodded and they slowly started towards the inn.

"Wait!" The guy called, "You can't, the town knows what we all are. We need to leave." he said, That made sense. Tyrant nodded.

"Alright," He ran a hang through his hair. "When are we leaving and to where?"

Karana

So, his mother was dead. Murdered by soldiers. And Kai had only barely escaped with his life.

I put my hand to his cheek and used my thumb to wipe his tears away, wanting nothing more than to comfort him and show him that it would all be fine.

Of course, Tyrant had to remind us of our blown secret.

"He's right," I nodded, taking Kai's hand with one of my own. "We need to leave here."

On our way out of the village, my mind raced. What am I doing? First I kiss him, now I'm holding his hand? What's gotten into me?

Oh well. I like it.

As I like him.

They stopped when they thought they were far enough away from the village without being followed. Kai was the one who held out his hand and said, "Hold on."

"Hold on?" Tyrant asked. "For all we know the villagers could be coming after us right now."

"They're not," Kai said. "I can tell. Besides, I have to tell him where I am."

Tyrant gave him a funny look. "Tell who where you are?"

Kai looked away. "You'll see." He stared off into the sky, as if seeing things the others could not. A few moments later he turned back to the others and said, "He's coming."

"There's something I have to know," Karana said. "You told me you got shot by five crossbows at once. How did you survive?"

"To tell you the truth, I thought I was a goner. The soldiers took my body out into the forest to leave it for the wolves to take care of. That's when the soldiers encountered a group of demons. They didn't stand a chance."

"But what about you?" Karana asked. "How did you survive?"

"I was saved."

"By who?"

A loud roar echoed from the sky as a creature with golden scales descended into the forest. As it got closer they could see that it was a dragon. It wasn't as big as a regular dragon, just a little larger than a horse.

Tyrant, Renian and Karana all reached for their weapons when the dragon landed in front of them. Kai stepped between them and the dragon. He held out his arms as if to protect the dragon.

"He won't hurt you," Kai said.

"Wait, is that dragon your friend?" Renian asked.

Kai looked at the dragon then back to Renian. "Something like that."

"How did you meet this dragon?" Karana asked.

"He's the one that saved me."

A voice echoed in each of their minds. "You may all call me Draco." The voice sounded old and full of wisdom gained over the centuries.

Every one of them took a step back in surprise. "Did that thing just talk into my mind?" Tyrant asked.

Kai turned to Draco and said, "You can sense it, can't you? They're all Dragon Knights, they will understand you."

The dragon nodded and said, "Very well."

Kai turned back to Karana. "Draco sensed my aura when he was passing by and killed all the demons. He healed my wounds and took me to safety."

"How did he heal your wounds?" Renian asked.

"With magic."

"I didn't know dragons could use magic," Tyrant said.

"Draco can. He's the Earth Dragon of Light."

(This is the part where Kai tells them all what's happened to him and what they have to do next. I'll warn you know, this part may take a while. But by the end of it you'll all be able to use magic.)

Karana

Amazing! A golden dragon!

For some reason, I felt awed and jealous at the same time.

"Can I...pet him?" I asked hesitantly, taking a small step forward.

Kai looked at Draco, and I waited for the answer.

The golden dragon stared at Karana for a moment, his golden eyes meeting her's. Draco approached with long graceful strides. When he was in front of her he lowered his head. Karana reached out to touch his head, a little hesitant at first. She ran her hand across the dragon's head, his scales were smoother than they looked.

"You must be Karana," Draco said.

Karana was still a little weirded out about the whole talking dragon thing. She nodded and said, "Yes."

"Kai has not stopped talking about you ever since I found him the other night. From what I can tell, he cares for you very much."

Karana looked over the dragon at Kai. He couldn't meet her eyes, he was too embarrassed.

"Wait a second," Tyrant said. "You're telling me this tiny thing is one of the five Earth Dragons?"

"That's right," Kai said.

"He doesn't seem like one of the dragons in the legend."

Draco lifted his head to look at Tyrant. "Do not believe everything you hear. That legend was written in the views of man and holds many untruths about us."

"But don't get us wrong," Kai said as he walked over. "Some of the stuff in it is pretty accurate. It's just that all the Earth Dragons can take on different forms in proportion to how much of their power they want to use."

The tooth hanging from the handle of Kai's sword swung back and forth as he walked. "I don't remember you having that sword before, Kai," Karana said. "What happened to your old one?"

"I had to leave it behind when Draco brought me to this sword."

"I've never seen a sword like it before," Karana said. "What kind of sword is it?"

"It's the Tenjin, the legendary blade of the Dragon Knights."

(This is why I wanted you guys to read the prologue of my story first so you'd know what I was talking about when we got to this point in the story.)

**Oh, by the way, I have a friend who just joined YWS. She's interested in this storybook...**

Karana

I stared at Kai. Wow! So much in so little time!

Which was the truth. In less than two days, he'd lost his mother, been nearly killed by archers, been saved by a dragon, and now he was a true warrior!

I couldn't help but envy him.

"How do we find our dragons, if there are any? I mean, aren't there four more? Somewhere out there?" I had to ask it.

And hopefully he would answer.

(I don't see any problem with that. Just make sure she reads the prologue of my story in the link in the first post so she has a basic understanding of all the references I'm making to it.)

"I don't know where the other Earth Dragons are hiding, Draco and I only met because he was looking for his brother," Kai told her. "Plus, he's not my dragon. He's teaching me the ways of the Dragon Knight, and he's my guide for the journey I've begun."

"Journey?" Karana asked.

"I'll tell you in a minute, I just remembered something." He turned to Draco and said, "I think we may have a lead on Valmorr."

"How so?" the dragon asked.

"Karana, tell Draco what you told me about what happened to Kuri City."

Karana retold the story to the dragon, making sure to include every little detail. She made it a point to describe every feature of the dragon that came out of the storm clouds.

The gold dragon closed his eyes and let out a weary sigh. "There is no mistake, that was Valmorr. He is back to his destructive ways, as I feared."

"That giant dragon's name is Valmorr?" Renian asked.

"Yes," Draco said. "He is my brother, the Earth Dragon of Darkness."

All three of them felt a pang of fear at the mere mention the dragon. They had all seen one of the most powerful and terrifying beings on the face of the planet and lived to tell the tale.

"But, why would he want to destroy Kuri City?" Tyrant asked.

"I cannot say," Draco said. "Valmorr always has veiled reasons for all his actions, no matter how significant or insignificant. Though the thought of causing death and destruction excites him, he never acts without thinking of every outcome."

"Which is where I come in," Kai said. He looked at Tyrant and said, "How much do you know about the Tenjin from the legend?"

"I know it holds the power of all five elements of Chaos," he said.

"It used to," Kai said.

"What do you mean?"

Draco explained, "After the first coming of Krazatan, the Chaos Dragon, the remaining Dragon Knights that survived the slaughter extracted the energies of Fire, Thunder, Ice, Darkness and Light from the Tenjin. They feared that someone may try to use the Tenjin for their own selfish gains, so they sealed each individual element in five shrines located throughout Horagothien. These shrines are called the Power Shrines."

"It's my job as the wielder of the Tenjin to retrieve the sword's lost power from each of these shrines," Kai explained. "Once I've visited all five shrines we may have a chance to stop Valmorr's destructive rampage before he strikes again."

"I have a question," Tyrant asked. "Doesn't it make you nervous that you're holding what may be the most powerful weapon in the world? Aren't you worried that someone might take it from you?"

Kai pulled the sword out of its sheathe and stuck it into the ground. He took a few steps back and said, "Take the sword."

Tyrant stared at him. "...What?"

"Take the sword and you'll have your answer."

Tyrant nervously approached the sword. He reached out to grab the handle. When his fingers brushed against it the sword let out a sudden spark of red and black energy. Tyrant jumped back out of reflex, rubbing his fingers from the shock. The sword suddenly jerked out of the ground and floated in the air. It rotated with the handle pointing at Kai and flew toward its wielder. Kai caught the sword by the handle with little to no effort.

"To a certain extent, the Tenjin has a mind of its own," Kai explained. "It doesn't let just anyone wield it. Only people it deems worthy can hold it and use its power."

"So," Renian said, getting back on topic, "because the Tenjin chose you it's now your job to go to each of these shrines and let the sword regain its power?"

Kai nodded. "Draco and I already retrieved to energies from the Power Shrine of Fire earlier today."

"Where was it?" Karana asked.

"In the heart of Fire Mountain."
