Young gun, save ridiculously outlandish righteous anger for topics that deserve it. Is it too much of you to include a 'please' or merely to be polite?

I was not aware of the issue and will fix it later tonight.

Before anyone brings up problems with the featured works block, I'm just working on it. Beforehand, that little area cost over 200kb to load, which was killer on slow connections. Plus, Internet Explorer never liked it.

So I'm switching it over to a very light-weight system that costs only around 2kb to load. It's working great, but lacks navigation controls. That's something I'm working on and will hopefully have working soon.

I don't think young gun was that harsh...

Thanks a ton for changing the featured section because when I get on at school they computers run quite slow when opening the homepage, so it is nice to hear this will be fixed soon.

The featured works block should now be completely working again. Overall, if anyone notices any differences at all, those differences should be quiet slight. On the back-end though, I managed to reduce the total file-size of it from ~160kb to 3kb. Slower connections should notice a huge difference.

There is a bug in Internet Explorer 6 that causes the buttons to look weird. I know what's causing the bug, but I don't know how to fix it and I'm loath to invest more than 20 minutes fixing anything for a decade old browser! Plus, even though the buttons may look odd, they work fine.

Sorry, Nate. No sleep for you. :P

I'm having a problem with the main page. Specifically, the featured member bit is meshed with the recent posts column, and it just doesn't look right. Here's a screenshot.

Elinor, always include your browser and operating system. Since you're currently online, I'm able to check it, but if you weren't online, I'd have no idea and have absolutely no way of helping you.

I'll look into the issue. In the meantime, can you hit refresh and tell me if that clears the issue?

ha, that internet explorer 6 issue is quite troublesome. At school YWS is unblocked so I like to come on whenever I can. Some of the outdated computers are running explorer 6 and I was confused as to why the menu buttons were white not black.

So, I'm doing this on behalf of Dynamo.

He cannot seem to log on to YWS, apparently getting an error message when he does. He tried it on Firefox and Explorer and it's the same. I'm not too sure, that's all the information I have, I know it's really vague. He says that Firefox is saying that the address cannot be found, I think he means when it would say something like:

Firefox can't find the server at www.youngwriterssociety.com.

Sorry about the ambiguous description. Since he can't seem to get online, I can play the messenger.

For a few minutes this morning (11:05-11:09, EST) I got this error:

I just had to update Safari (reformatted my computer yesterday and had to re-download patches/updates) and I got logged out of blogs this morning (only once. about 9 am, after hitting "comment" on Bickazer's blog) so the updates might have something to do with it.

I was looking at the new leaderboards, and for some reason, the "Top 15 This Month" board is moved to the side and hidden behind the ads, Featured Member, Recent Posts[, etc.] table on the right.

I just tried to edit my custom title and featured topics, and I got this message:

I'm on Internet Explorer. I know this browser sucks, but it's the only one that works properly on the computer I'm on.

Thanks Jared for reporting it; it doesn't have to do with your browser. I know what the problem is, and will fix it sometime tomorrow.

I seem to be having a minor problem with what shows up as a new post or not. Any post that's been made within the last six or so months is being considered "unread." I get that time-span because Kitty15's post in "Questions on Applications Only" was marked unread.

I've been having some problems with read/unread markers before (mostly from accessing YWS through different networks. Sometimes, if I just hit "mark all topics read" I'll still get some posts labeled as "unread" even though the forum itself no longer says I have new posts I just tried this and it worked fine) but this is a bit... extreme.

And it should be noted that when I normally have problems with read/unread posts, I just click one and the problem is pretty much resolved. This time, that's not happening.
