Adri

I was taken by surprise. The confidence this vampire had was amazing; obviously a new one. I could tell by that scent.

I heard James shift uneasily beside me. He obviously knew what she was, too.

"I'm Adrianne, but most people call me Adri," I answered, ready to protect these people if I must. "You?"

She watched as the sorcerer tried to disappear and smirked. Her eyes turning golden in the darkness, she made eye contact.

"Nice to meet you, too. Alex. And you are...?" she asked as she extended her hand to this person who seemed to hate her.

James-

"You're a new vampire." I said, glancing around uneasily. Then I remembered i had magic on my side and slightly relaxed.

"What do you want?" i demanded.

She laughed softly and flashed a dazzling smile.

"Just trying to be friendly. And I'm not new...just new around here." She smiled again.
"So...what's your name?"

I slowly stood, stepping between them.

"Both of you listen to me: there are too many witnesses here," I hissed under my breath. "I want no trouble out of either you, or I will act." I turned to stare at Alex - no offense intended. "And you don't want that."

She was shocked.

"Um...I didn't know I was doing anything wrong!" Her eyes widdened. "I'm sorry! I really didn't mean to cause any trouble!"

She turned on her heels and strode lightly and quickly out, her boots hardly making a sound feeling stupid and turning red at the same time.

I growled at myself. That was stupid! What was I thinking? She was just being friendly, and I had ruined it!

"Stay here," I commanded James as I took off after her. "Wait, Alex! Hold on a minute!"

She stopped, but didn't turned, too embarressed. She really had wanted to make a good impression as the history teacher, but her first day in town and she had already blew it!

"Yes?" she asked timidly, wishing there was some place to run to.

James-

I watched as the other vampire-Alex-strode out of the restaurant. I glanced back to Adri.

"Stay here," she said, then took off after her.

I snorted. Yeah, right. Like i was going to take orders from her. I lay a ten dollar bill on the table and melted into the shadows where it was safe to teleport back to my house.

I waited, just out of reach, behind her.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to sound like you'd done something wrong, but you have to understand," I hoped I wasn't making a fool of myself. "People are afraid of vampires, especially ones as young as you. You have to be careful how you approach someone; they may not know if you mean them harm or not!"

I waited for her response.

She sighed and turned.

"Just because I look young doesn't mean I am. I have been around since 16th century. I'm not new at this...It's just...where I come from, ALL magical creatures mix well together. I suppised I figured it would be like that everywhere else. I mean, humans I understand...but wizards and warlocks? Why should they be afraid? I mean, they have something to combat us with." She chuckled. "I suppose I should've been more careful. I just didn't see it as a problem." She blushed...and shifted uneasily. "I'm not used to being around people...I don't even know why I took a job which requires a lot of interaction...I'm sorry if I caused any trouble..." She looked down at her feet, uneasy witht the situation.

Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.
