Slade loved toying with Caiden like that. He started to float above her as she got to the road. From behind her, a man approached. She spun on him, but they kept walking together.

'This should be interesting. If thats a vampire thinking hes got an easy meal, boy! Hes got another thing coming!' Slade laughed at the prospect of the vampire trying to bite her. She would rip his head of before he got a chance.

James watched the new girl enter from his dark corner of the room. He pretended not to notice her; lifting his glass to his lips and taking a small drink and continually glancing at the door.

Another person got up from his seat, nodded to the woman, and briskly exited. It was easy enough to tell he was a vampire even without the strong scent he carried on his body. James was beginning to worry about how many new vampires he'd been seeing around the city lately. It was enough to unnerve anyone.

James continued to keep his eye on the girl, just to see what she would do.

I strode past the many vacant booths and took a seat at the bar, near the darkest corner. I glanced at the wizard; he was intently watching me. Why?

A waitress approached me, and I held my breath when the scent of rosemary tickled my nose. No sin without the temptation.

"What would you like, miss?" she was very polite.

I smiled in return, managing to conceal the sharper-than-usual canines I bore. "Do you have any beef ribs left? And a cherry soda?"

She looked at a small notepad she had carried with her. "Yes, I believe so. Medium, rare, well done?"

"Medium rare."

I didn't have to watch the wizard shift uncomfortably behind me. I could hear him.

"All right, I'll have it to you in a minute! Thanks for coming to MJ's!"

"Thank you." I slipped her a tip before she bustled off for the kitchen.

I turned towards the wizard, single eyebrow raised. He was certainly peculiar. Uneasy, quiet, hesitant, jumpy...what was with this guy? Or did he somehow know what I am?

"I'm not going to hurt you, sir, if that's what you're afraid of," I assured him, keeping my voice soft enough not to be overheard by anyone else. "I've developed enough control not to even like the idea of drinking human blood."

James-

I snorted softly and rolled my eyes, pretending to be uninterested even when my very being was quivering with curiosity.

"You expect me to believe you? You really are amusing. I learned my lesson already with your kind, long ago." i said. drawing the sleeve of my robe back to display a long, jagged scar shaped like a crescent moon on my upper arm.

She simply stared at the scar.

"A new vampire who did not yet have control, or as much control as your kind can have. He lost it and attacked me. I had to kill him and suck the venom from my own body." I said, regarding her intently and watching her reaction.

I snorted, rolling my eyes back at him. What a fool he was, to think he knew so much with so little experience!

"Precisely, sir, a newborn. I am much older than you think I am, and I have too kind a heart to hurt someone the same way my creator tortured me."

I regarded the girl for a few more moments before shrugging nonchalantly. "You seem honest enough. So, what's your name?"

*Sorry. I dont have much*

Finally, I'd broken through. I'd cracked the ice that separated us.

"Adrianne, but most everyone calls me Adri." I thanks the waitress when she put the plate in front of me. "What about you?"

James-

I watched the waitress place the plate of food in front of the girl.

"I'm James, but most people call me Rasp." i said.

"I can see why," Adri said, smiling slightly.

"Yes, and so can the rest of the world." I said bitterly. I had had enough people make rude or snobby remarks about my harsh and raspy voice more than once. Usually i didnt let my irritation be shown other than by a small flicker of anger across the eye or an irritated drum of the fingers. Most unlike me...

I chuckled at his reaction. Typical, and I could understand why.

"If you think you have it bad..." I began, smiling more at myself than anything.

He looked at me, curious.

"You should hear what other vamps say about me, considering I don't drink human blood. I kill weak, sick, or injured animals to feed on."

She strode into the resturant, unsure if she should even be here. She sniffed. She smelled humans, which was to be expected, but vampire and wizard blood? She scanned the room, her eyes resting on the other female vampire talking to the wizard. 'Odd,' she thought, 'normally they don't like each other...'

She strode over to the vampire and cleared her throat.

"Sorry to interupt, but I'm new here. My name is Alexis, Alex for short. Who are you?" she smiled reasuringly, a big mistake. Her fangs flashed in the light, revealing her for who she truely was.

"Lucky me," I muttered, just as a new girl entered the restaurant. She approached us and i quickly melted back into the shadows. She introduced herself to Adri and smiled; fangs flashing in the light. I scowled.

The new vampire glanced at me quickly. I glared back. More vampires; exactly what i needed. Horray.
