The Random Vampire Story [1]

"I think so," she said smiling back, "but I haven't tested being vertical yet."

Grabbing her around the waist lightly he pulled her upright, not standing but so she was kneeling on the bed instead of lying next to him. "Still feel alright?"

"A little dizzy but yeah," she rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes against the spinning world.

"Are you sure?" he asked again.

"I'm sure," she said and managed to force herself to stand up.

"Alright, just keep ahold of me and we'll go find you something to eat." He said holding her around the waist.

"How am I going to eat anything with my strength?" She asked,

"I'll take care of that. We'll go to the jail and find something, it is better then picking a random person off the side of the street." He said, "If you dont mind that is?"

"Somebody who hurt a little kid," Caiden said softly. Colt's deep rumble of laughter made her smile.

She didn't really remember much about going over there, only that she sat with her knees drawn up to her chest and resting her head aginst Colt's shoulder as he drove.

At last they reached the jail and Colt nearly dragged Caiden along with him.

Colt kept his arm around Caiden's middle as he snuck in the back door with her. He talked quickly to the guard and was pointed down the hall to a small cell. There was a man sleeping on the bed. With ease and experiance Colt opened the door with out a sound and snuck in.

"Here you go, I'll keep a hold on him if I need to." Colt whispered in her ear. "He's hurt more then one kid." She seemed to tense up at that. It might give her more energy to hold the man down.

Caiden sank her fangs into the mans neck, sucking hard and fast, soon his helpless struggles quieted down. When the life was drained out of his body she let go and stood up on solid feet.

As she looked down at the human lying dead before her she felt a heady sense of dread sweep over her. She had just taken a life.

"Feel better?" Colt asked her.

"No." She said a tear spilling out of her eye.

He grasped her arm lightly trying to help her remain standing. "Should we go to another cell?"

Caiden shook her head, "I'm not hungry still...I just killed someone," her voice shook as she fought off helpless sobs.

Colt-

Colt looked down at Caiden. "And he took more, listen, this is how it works. We rid the world of- them, they don't deserve to live and we have to eat something. This man was in jail for life. Which just means a criminal that did something bad can stay out because there wasn't enough room for him in here. We just keep it to where they can be punished for what they do." He wiped a tear off her face. "What is so different about killing a vampire, and killing him. It is taking a life one way or the other." He said, he didn't know what else to say. He just pulled her close and rested his head on the top of her's.

When Caiden killed vampires she never thought of them as alive, as having personalities, or hearts. As soon as she met Colt though she knew she'd never be able to go vampire hunting again. But she knew what being a human was like, and she didn't like to take life, even when it was a vampire she was killing.

"I suppose I'll get used to it. It took me only two weeks to get used to killing vampires."

Colt-

"I didn't like it at first either, but sense I feed off this type of person I justified it with the fact that they were murder's, rapists, and the likes. I was riding the world of them like our system should, they just aren't." He smiled and pulled her close, "We better go, the guard is dew in a few minutes." He led her back out and they slowly made their way back to his apartment.

Caiden and Cold walked down the street, Caiden's head rested on Colt's shoulder. Here, under the moonlight she felt this intense feeling of peace and happiness that she almost screamed with it.

"Its so pretty out tonight," Caiden said, "so peaceful."

"Yup." Colt smiled, "Just like you." He pulled her close and kissed her. When he pulled away he sighed. He never felt more content then when he was with her. He never wanted to lose her again. They would need to deal with Brent when they got back, but he wasn't about to do anythign that would bring harm to his Caiden. He smiled at the thought, she was his and if anyone ever hurt her he would kill them.

Caiden held onto the kiss as long as possible, going up on tip-toe even. When they finally pulled apart Caiden sighed in time with him. "You know," she said, "we're going to have to deal with the evil vampires back home."

"I know."

She realized something, where was Brenty and Slade? "Where's Brent and Slade?"

"Oh crap! They probably went back to my apartment!"

Colt walked briskly towards his apartment Caiden following. They turned a corner and saw three shadows in front of them. Colt felt Caiden stiffen.

"What's wrong?" he asked quietly.

"Slade!" she said suddenly, "Brenty!" She grabbed Colt's hand and dragged him across the playground and into the woods, "I can smell Slade's aftershave, horrible stuff, but I can smell it a mile away."

"How do you know its him?"

"He combines like two kinds because...I don't know I guess he's just a dork like that."

"Caiden! Colt!" Slade shouted when he saw them.

"Are y'all ok?" Brenty demanded,

"Ya, we're fine. We just needed to get something to eat." Colt said.

"Ah," Slade said. Caiden could feel him looking her over at her burns and bruises. Hopefully her newly found vampire matabolism would heal those after another rest. But even though she was a vampire hunter she knew very little about the way vampire's lived.

"What are we going to do now?" Brent asked, "its not like we can go back to either of our apartments, the vampires are going to be there."

Caiden put a hand on Colt's forearm, hoping that he wasn't too upset by all this, and secretly hoping that it wasn't because of her that they turned on him.

"I think it was just Brent taking the wards down," Slade said.

"But the rest of them take their que's from him," Colt added, "they'd be working with him too."

Caiden stiffened and leaned into him, "maybe we should try my apartment?"
