If you would like a writing mentor or would like to BECOME a writing mentor, use this thread to let us know. Like:
"My name's Vincente and I need a mentor to help with my action/adventure short story writing."
So basically, tell us your username and what you write, a little about yourself if you want (remember, this is optional), and then we'll try to find someone that meets those specifications.
You can also PM the club's leader/creator, Lucrezia, if you want to be a mentor or editor or have any questions (though you can definitely post that stuff here too).
If you're applying to be a mentor, tell us what you write, a little about yourself (again, optional), and why you qualify. Bonus points if you give us a link to some of your works and recent reviews you've written (not necessary, but greatly appreciated).
Mentors and novices will be matched up based on their shared interests (so a mentor that writes romantic novels will be matched up with a novice that writes something similar or, ideally, the same thing).
Mentors will work with their proteges via PM, chat, or on the Brainstorming thread of this club. Please only contact one another through these means. (Basically, don't use this thread to chat with your mentor about Baxter the superhero, your newest character; this thread's sole purpose is connecting mentors with proteges, NOT chatting.)
Editing
If you want to become an editor for someone, basically the same rules apply. Post here or PM Lucrezia with the reasons you believe you qualify, what you specialize in (be it grammar, punctuation or spelling), as well as links to your recent works and reviews (but unlike the above, this step is necessary in order to become an editor, not optional).
If you need an editor, you can also post here or PM Lucrezia with a message like this:
"Hi there. I'm Vincente and I need an editor, because I'm really bad at knowing when to put paragraph breaks/misspellings/punctuation. Here's a link to a recent piece I wrote to show you what I mean. (insert link here.)"
So, specify your problem ("i always put too much punctuation and forget to capitalize things!!!"), tell us a little about yourself (optional), give us a link to something riddled with mistakes as an example, and so forth. We'll try our best to hook you up with an editor that'll help with your issues.
When sending your editor a work you wrote, please do it through PM or some other form (which means don't post a link to your piece here and ask your editor to work on it; editing happens outside this club, so don't abuse the forums or the wall to talk with your editor!).
Rules
Only those that truly need the help should ask for an editor. Basically, don't ask for something you don't need. Right? In this case, if you're pretty good at the technical stuff and can mostly figure it out on your own, don't just take the easy route and grab an editor from someone that could really use it.
Editors are mostly for novices/YWS newbies or youngsters that really could use the help.
And go easy on your editor—work around THEIR schedule, and don't send them ten chapters all at once. After all, they're doing you a favor.
The same goes for mentors. They're volunteering to help you, not be your slave. So don't send them thirty different stories or poems and demand their advice. It doesn't work that way.
Anyone that breaks these rules will lose their mentor/editor and not be able to get another one, at least until they mature enough to understand what they did wrong. So... don't break the rules, ok?
Finally, mentors and proteges will decide together what work needs to be done. A mentor will have to decide how to go about helping their protege by looking at their portfolios and talking to them about their writing. So don't post here or bug Lucrezia with a billion questions like, "What the hell does a mentor even do?"
I'll tell you right now: A mentor works with their assigned protege to better their writing and help nurture their ideas. A mentor should not be insulting or mean in any critiques or advice they give. They should be constructive, caring and considerate—The Three Cs.
