The Failure and The Dreamer

Failure

That's what I call myself, right?

~ A failure.

My actions can never be dignified.

|}

"It's not hard, to just pass a class,

~ You managed to fail three?

How can someone accomplish that?"

|}

Hot Mess

That's the second term used.

~ A name.

A form of labeling that can be misleading and abused.

|}

And, you want to blame my friends?

~ Then may I remind you,

That my friends are the only reason I'm surviving.

|}

Respect

You say I lack this aspect.

~ In myself, that is.

In others, it's a tool that's meant to establish power.

|}

You tell me not to use my words.

~ A good girl keeps quiet.

Yet, a good girl also completes her studies and aces every test without fighting.

|}

So then tell me why these words are the reason you can keep smiling.

~ Go ahead and tell me why these titles aren't satisfying.

Tell me, why can't I be;

|}

A Writer

When my stories happen to be bold.

~ Endless.

I will never meet a fork in the road.

|}

A Muscician

When the music I create is my emotions.

~ My strength.

I will never be pushed over.

|}

A Poet

When my stories fail, I can trust rhymes to take over.

~ They will prevail.

They have never forced me under.

|}

And I know, my classes are important.

~ I know passing means I'll succeed.

|}

But sometimes, this world just needs a girl who can write,

~ and a girl who can read.

|}

Don't you get it?

~ Can't you see?

My words can be as sharp as a stone, as rough as the sea,

|}

But they're also helping me.

|}

Sometimes, I need room to speak.

~ And room to breathe.

But it's hard to do that when you're using everything against me.

|}

So let me write. I know that's one thing I can do.

~ Let me bring you a smile.

Because if I can make you smile, then I can make others do that too.

|}

So let me be a writer. A girl with the words.

~ A girl with the power to manipulate her own world.

|}

And let you be my reader. A human with the eyes.

~ You could see everything. And you can see the world through my mind.

|}

Together, we can be something. The Writer and The Reader.

~ So please, push aside reality.

For just one day, let you be you.

|}

And let me be me.

Heyy..Alwaysea here, I was looking some old works to read and then I stumbled upon your wonderful poem and I am so glad I did. It was a beautiful piece of writing that left a deep impact on me. The emotions you expressed are very real and easy to connect with. Even though the situations in my life may be different from what you described, the constant feelings you wrote about are something I have always carried with me too.

One of the lines that stayed with me the most was:
"Sometimes I need room to speak and I need room to breathe but it's hard to do it when you're using everything against me."
This line felt like it came straight out of my own life. Many days, I feel the same way—like speaking up is useless because no one will truly understand. It is easier to stay silent and just listen, even if that silence is heavy inside. You managed to put into words what so many people, including me, feel but cannot say out loud.

The way you described the struggles of being a teenager under constant academic pressure was very true. Society, family, and people around us often judge us quickly, calling us failures without knowing the battles we are fighting within. That kind of judgment can push a person into a dark phase. Some are lucky enough to have friends who pull them out of it, and that bond of friendship truly becomes the strongest support in such times. I loved how you brought that part out in your poem—it reminded me of how important it is to have people who stand by us.

Another line I truly loved was: “so, let me write.” Those words carry so much power. Writing becomes a healing process, a way to let the emotions flow and settle little by little. I could completely relate to this thought. Many times I also write just to release my feelings, to calm my mind, and to put on a smile the next day, even if it is only a pretended one in front of the mirror. That connection made your poem feel very personal to me.

Overall, I think your poem captured the struggles of growing up, facing pressure, feeling misunderstood, and trying to survive with hope. You wrote with honesty, and that honesty made the poem strong and relatable. It was not just about pain, but also about finding a small way to cope with it.

I really loved your work.If you have some time, I would be happy if you could read a few of my works too. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt poem, and have a great day and keep rocking! 😊

Ahhh! Thank you so much for reading! I so appreciate it!

I would love to read some of your works. Don't mind me if I randomly stalk your portfolio <3

Hey there! Read your poetry in the Green Room so thought I'd drop a quick review.

Firstly, I must start with how you chose the perfect title for your piece. It seems vague at first, causing some confusion if it talks about two characters or two sides of the same person. Turns out it's the later, which wouldn't have been my personal guess. Nevertheless, after reading the entire piece, I can conclude that it sums up the poem rather well. I can now get how the part- 'The Failure' is refering to the stanzas where you depict your struggles with conventional academic schooling while the 'Dreamer' part is indirectly pointing at your writing and music tendencies, at which you seem to excel.

In the first stanza, you start out strong, calling youself a failure as others often do. I like the implication of latent anger from you repeating the word "failure" twice and adding "right?" as if taunting the people who accuse you of being one. My favourite part about this stanza is when you quote how others make fun of your academic struggles, claiming that passing a exam isn't that hard of a task. The fact that they add the information that you failed 3 class, as if you didn't know yourself, portrays well how society purposely pulls those down who don't fit in the usual mould of things.

In the second stanza, the same problematic people move on to call you things such as "Hot mess" which can be misconstrued and used to name call you, falling far from the scale of what is decent and acceptable. It blows my mind how they divert the blame on your friends instead, which you defend to be your only supporting pillars.

The successive stanzas shift the perspective as you begin to take charge of the narrative, as compared to the previous stanzas where you were quoting what all you have to hear from the troubling gossipers of the unsupporting society.

You beat them at their logic when they ask you to be a good girl and keep your mouth shut. But you're aware how you'll never meet their standards or please them due to your academic shortcomings anyways, so you decide to speak your mind instead. You then tell us of the numerous gifts and talents you have. You describe your stories bold and your music emotional. You even mention your knack for poetry, how you can rely on your rhymes to hit the mark even if your stories fail to make the cut.

I love how you manage to take something positive from the toxic taunts on your academic failings. Instead of ignoring or denying their claims, you openly admit your studies to be just as important and a milestone for future success.

Studies are however, not your strength. Writing is the talent you possess and the tool which you can use to reshape the world for the better. You show us the vulnerable side of how writing even helps you have a voice of your own in a world outside that is making noise of your failures- a part that touched my heart, really. Poetry is the answer to all those who question your worth.

Lastly, you choose to plead to the people to let you be left to do what your heart desires. To let you be a writer, where you feel most home. You even invite the people to be your readers instead, where you can show them the beautiful worlds you made.

Love the work, how a teen tired of being taunted at for her academic shortcomings, speaks up for herself. She lists the talents and how she excels at them. She urges the world to let her be in peace as she pursues her passion and invites them cordially on her journey as her readers. Excellent message, wonderfully depicted with blunt realism

Omg, I love how specific you got with this! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! <3
