Iced Latte

PreviousNext

Verse 1                                            Guitar Chords:  G, Am, C, D

There's nothin' better to do outside, than to stand alone

I wasn't doing alright 'til you came walkin' on

You opened up my mind, And you sang a little song

You said "everything will be fine, if you just sing along"

Chorus

If your feelin' down, I know this place up town.

You can sit and take a rest, I know you tried your best.

And if you're feelin' tired, I'll buy you a drink.

I'll go up to the counter, and get you an iced latte for free.

You sang,

Verse 2

"I know it's rainin hard. I know you're fallin' apart. I know you're tired

So just lean into me"

I promise I'm not leaving,

Chorus

If your feelin' down, I know this place up town.

You can sit and take a rest, I know you tried your best.

And if you're feelin' tired, I'll buy you a drink.

I'll go up to the counter, and get you an iced latte for free.

Hi TheTaostedWriter! Incoming review!

I think I meant to review your song a while ago but I completely forgot, so I'm fixing that now!

I love the slant rhyme in the first verse with "alone" and "on". I'm also so happy you shared the recording so I understand the flow of the words! The second verse in half-time is also really creative. It gives it a boost of something different to keep interest.

The feelings of the lyrics are so sweet like an iced latte, so I thought that was a nice little bit of coherent symbolism. There's something about YWS songs that have a way of sticking in my head (cough cough @soundofmind has really good songs) and yours is absolutely going to stay in my head rent free. You also have such a lovely voice.

That was more rambling than reviewing, but I hope you liked knowing that I enjoyed your song. Take care! Anyway byeeeeeeeee <3

I love your review! You aren't wronf, soundofmind does have some pretty amazing songs! And you did deliver some helpful words! Thank you!

Hi TaostedWriter!! This little song has been in the green room far too long!

And sidenote -- so helpful that you've actually recorded this and were brave enough to share a link!! Love your voice and love the tune! This is a super sweet song :)

I always feel weird reviewing lyrics because they're usually very personal and who am I to tell someone how to tell a personal story. That being said, I think you did a nice job of telling the entire story in just a few words. I interpreted it as -- the singer is going through a hard time then meets a cool person at this coffee shop/cafe who helps them feel better and helps them through the hard time. The singer maybe has had bad experiences with people letting them down/leaving and this cool person they met isn't going to do that to them.

My only little note is that the verses don't follow the same rhyme pattern and structure (? don't know if that's the right word) as the first verse. Maybe it's more of a bridge than a verse? Does it need a bridge? But obviously, it's your song and if it's a stylistic choice then do your thing!!

Thanks for sharing and I hope you keep song writing! :)

Thank you for writing me a review! I do agree, the second verse is more of a bridge, and it probably sits better that way. But I appreciate your review and your kind words! Thank you!

Here's the link to the recording! Thank you, @soundofmind, for telling me! I know it's pitchy, out of tune and my guitar playing wasn't the greatest, but it's been a while since I've sang OR played this song! Sorry if it sounds bad!

Just realized I was laughing at myself for messing up my own chords in my own first verse :')

A song!!!!!! Yes! Do you have a recording for a melodic reference???? :D

I can always make one, but I currently don't have my guitar. So, if you can settle for just me singing, then I can make a recording.

So sorry!

If you would want to I%u2019d love to listen! I could play guitar with it to hear how it sounds :)

Sounds like a plan! I'll let you know when I make one! I'll most likely have to play my guitar too, just for tempo and structure

Yay! I look forward to it

I have an acoustic now! I have recordings, they're just really bad and i dont know how to post them :')

most people will upload to vocaroo.com and use a link from there i think!

I can try that out, no promises it'll work tho!

Forgot to mention, this song is played capo on fourth fret. The strumming pattern changes after the first verse. First verse is all down, 2 triplets, first hit harder than the others, on the last down on the third triplet, you change chord. It's weird to word, it's easier to show lol.
Anyways, after that, it's pretty up beat. Uhm, besides a few open chords, the rest of the strumming pattern is just eighth notes, the first one louder than the second, like an off beat. It's weird, but I promise it sounds good.

Tempo can be played at 100, but I typically play it at 120.

Happy tunes! Reach out to me for more details, I'll be more than happy to help!

Every time I’ve gotten feedback that was hard to take it was usually hard to take because there was truth in it and I didn’t like that (or didn’t want to receive it). That’s not to say all harsh feedback is good or that we should be harsh for harshness’ sake, but learning to absorb truth without letting it break your inner core/break you is a lifelong skill that keeps your mind elastic and open to learning.
