To the little boy I used to know,
I know the pain, you will never show.
Time passes and people change,
Yet inside I remain the same.

Telling lies to deal with the shame.
Like praying for sunlight in the midst of rain.
Little boy, no one hears voice whisper through the night.
You'll have to shout it louder,
Make them think you're alright.

Your love is like an ocean,
The rain can't wash it away.
Your love is like the sunlight,
You bring in every day.

I wish I protected you,
That you had seen better days.
I wish that I defended you,
I try to think of all the ways.

But you're just a little boy,
No one seems to look or even care.
It's not right and it's not fair.
Little boy they will never know,
Know that I will be there.

I really like this poem it's very powerful emotionally wise, you could work on your mechanics though. just the simple things is all you need. But, I read poetry for the feeling behind it, not for the stupid grammar, and you poem is just amazing. It gave me chills, great job!

I loved this poem. Okay so maybe the rhythm isn't perfect, but the sentiment is beautiful and it's so emotive. I thought the stanza that was slightly more positive and light-hearted was touching, kind of like a glint of sun on a cloudy day. I look forward to reading more of your writing. Keep up the good work!

Stunning. I've done about ten reviews so far, and this poem was by far the best. Brimming with heart and soul, I love the imagery and the theme sends a beautiful message. Good use of grammar and punctuation - overall, quite a wonderful poem.

I like the meaning it has, not completely abstract, but not just there, no heart-on-the-sleeve type of emotion. It comes from a source of pain, and I respect and relate to it. The meaning you originally tried to hide in the lines may still be secret, but other people can see themselves reflected in the words. It's unclear exactly what it means, but that is kinda what poetry's about anyway. It is not, by any means, a precise art. So, after my speech there, I'm just gonna say one more thing.
It was awesome.

So I'm going to try and review this. Firstly I really liked this! It has a good flow and a lovely melancholy tone to it. Here goes:

To the little boy I used to know,
I know the pain, you will never show.
Time passes and people change,
Yet inside I remain the same. So I really like this whole stanza, it's simple and maybe not totally original but it holds a lot of emotional strength. It also has a very smooth flow.

Telling lies to deal with the shame.
Like praying for sunlight in the midst of rain. I think these two lines are my favorites, though I think the top one could be worded better--Telling lies to bury the shame--or something...or not if you like it the way it is.
Little boy, no one hears voice whisper through the night. This line throws off the lovely flow that you've kept until this point, it could very easily be shortened and still make sense :).
You'll have to shout it louder,
Make them think you're alright.

Your love is like an ocean,
The rain can't wash it away.
Your love is like the sunlight,
You bring in every day. At first I really didn’t like this stanza but I’m warming up to it. The more I read it the more it seems to fit, this is a somewhat sad-ish poem and so something with this light, kind of loving tone is somewhat unexpected.

I wish I'd protected you,
That you had seen better days.
I wish that I'd defended you,
I try to think of all the ways. This last line is a bit disappointing, it gives the whole piece a kind of unfinished feeling and also gives me the idea that it was written more out of trying to rhyme rather than putting a finish on what is, for the most part, a very well written and touching poem.

I hope this is helpful! Again this is really beautiful, thanks for sharing! Keep up the good writing.
Chimp.
