Chapter 3

“助けて!”

I ran away, as fast as I could. But when I looked back, I could still see the raging beast chasing after me. My eyes grew white in terror.

"There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, human! I can smell you miles away!" Alexandra snarled in a monstrous roar. She was running on all fours, just like a wolf. Whenever I turned to the corner, she would jump against the walls and leap even closer to me!

Oh god, oh god, I'm going to die! Please, God, I don't want to die, not yet!

I kept praying in my head, hoping for a miracle to come save me. In these circumstances, I was desperate for anything.

“Bubble Entrapment!”

Just then, a bright violet-colored light flew by my left. Without stopping, I turned and saw that the light had hit Alexandra. Then, a large violet bubble appeared from the light and encased the werewolf. Alexandra roared and furiously slashed against the bubble, but it didn't so much as make a ripple.

“There! That'll give her some time to cool off!”

My feet stopped moving. I then turned back forward to see the face of my savior.

From the darkness of a classroom, Cindy Hatsugawa, my homeroom teacher, walked out. She was looking at us with a serious expression. In her right hand, she held an ivory wand that was 12-inches-long with a sharp, pointy tip at the end.

"Ah! Let me out of here!" Alexandra roared in anger. She stubbornly continued trying to break free, but to no avail.

We watched her tantrums in the bubble. After confirming her encasement, my homeroom teacher turned to me and smiled.

"Mr. Takishima, are you alright? Did she hurt you anywhere?" she asked with a concerned voice. Ms. Hatsugawa walked up to me and began searching for any sign of injury.

"I'm okay, Ms. Hatsugawa. But I have one thing to ask: What the hell just happen?!" I pointed at the bubble while staring at my homeroom teacher with large eyes.

"Oh, it's just an entrapment bubble made from the astral energy of the universe. It's unbreakable from both the inside and out, so I'm the only one who can dispel it!" she nonchalantly explained with a warm smile.

“Ahuh. And the wand?!”

Ms. Hatsugawa made a mischievous grin, replying, "What? A witch can't have a wand?"

"A witch? Really? You're not going to say that you're a 'Magical girl'?!" I couldn't help but retort Ms. Hatsugawa's answer. In a way, this was more ridiculous than demi-humans existing!

"Oh no, I'm already 26 years old. Only young witches are called 'Magical girls'! Thank you, though." She started blushing from being called younger than her age.

I decided to turn my attention to Alexandra, who was still very much trapped in the bubble.

"So, how long will it take for her to cool down?" I didn't know much about werewolves, so I had to ask Ms. Hatsugawa.

"Well, for a regular girl, it would take about three hours or so. But since Alexandra is a werewolf, it'll take her about three days to cool down."

"Really…?"

"Or five hours. I can't remember. It's been a while since I studied werewolves."

I couldn't tell if she was joking or not. But since I have no experience with this, I could only take her word on it.

Well, we couldn't let Alexandra stay like this for long, so Ms. Hatsugawa and I decided to transfer the bubble to a safe and secluded location.

5:21PM...

Ms. Hatsugawa and I brought Alex to the "Forest of Lost Souls". She explained that it was called the "Forest of Lost Souls" because it was once a place for people to "End their days". Kind of like the Aokigahara Forest near Tokyo. It was located five miles west, outside of town. The forest stretched about 104 acres and surrounded the Mountain of St. Edward.

Once we brought her to an open part of the forest, Hatsugawa held up her wand. I waited patiently, thinking she was going to cast some sort of bubble-popping spell on it.

Instead, she just jabbed her wand right into the bubble, causing it to pop like a normal one.

"Wait, that's it? No magic spell or anything? Just…pop the bubble, like that?" I was astonished and disappointed.

"Of course. The only way to pop a magical bubble is by using the wand it was casted from like a pin!" She closed her eyes while flashing a cute smile at me.

I just stood silent, with an irritated expression on my face.

With the bubble destroyed, Alexandra was left on the ground. She began changing back to her human form, apparently worn out from all her attempts to escape. Feeling pity, I stretched my hand out to help her.

But that's when I realized Alexandra was completely naked, from head to toe.

I froze as all the blood in my body rose straight to my head and out through my nose.

Alexandra woke up and looked around, confused. But that quickly changed when she looked down and noticed that she had nothing on.

"Kyaa!" Her face flushed red as she screamed. She quickly covered her nude body with her arms and refused to move even an inch in fear of exposing herself any more.

You know, she looked pretty cute with that scared expression on her face.

"Don't look at me, you pervert!" Alexandra shouted. She started throwing rocks at me to drive me away. Luckily, I was able to dodge them and approach her.

Before she could throw another, I took off my jacket and placed it over her.

"There we go. This'll do until you get another change of clothes!" I gave her an honest smile to prove my sincerity.

Alexandra looked up at me with wide-eyes and blushed cheeks. Her hands wrapped my jacket around her body. Once she made sure that the jacket was long enough to cover all of her private parts, she stood up.

"T-Thanks. But this doesn't mean I-I forgive you for looking at my naked body!"

"Hey, hey, I'm just trying to help, you know," I remarked, holding both hands up in a non-threatening manner. I didn't mean to offend her, or demand any form of forgiveness. All I wanted to do was help in any way I could. "So, should we take you home?"

She nodded immediately.

So we left the forest without any hesitation, which was a relief because I was starting to feel a chill run down my spine after staying here.

1 hour later; 7:15PM...

We brought Alex back home without any trouble. The three of us stood in front of a very large, American foursquare house with light blue walls and a gray tiled roof. It was so big, it could probably fit at least twenty people inside.

Without saying anything, Alexandra dashed toward the front door. But before she stepped inside, she turned around to look at me. From this far, my jacket covered the expression on her face, but I thought for a moment that she was blushing while staring at me.

It must've been my imagination.

After that was over, we started to walk home. It was just me and Ms. Hatsugawa walking home, something that many boys in my class could only dream about. As we walked, I decided to have small talk and sate my curiosity.

"So, tell me, Ms. Hatsugawa. Are you the only witch in town?" I inquired.

"Oh no. There are other witches, too. Including me, there are about three witches throughout the town of Archangel," Ms. Hatsugawa answered, waving her arm nonchalantly. "We don't really socialize with one another that much, so we just meet up on the first week of October to talk about what's been going on with our lives."

“What do you and the other witches do when you're not hanging out with each other?” I asked, again.

"Well, I can't remember what one of them is doing, but the second one is definitely working at the Archangel Hospital as a doctor, or a nurse, or a surgeon, or the director."

We kept on talking as we walked down the street until we reached our destination.

20-minutes-later...

I stood in my kitchen, preparing to make dinner for myself. I was making a decent dinner: hot dogs. After taking out a pot and filling it with water, I started boiling it while the hot dogs were being defrosted. I didn't want to cook them on a frying pan because I hated the salty taste of fried hot dogs.

Just then, I realized something... I had forgotten to check the mail.

So I went outside to my front porch and searched the mailbox hanging beside my front door. I reached in and out came five envelopes. I headed back inside to the kitchen as I read over the contents: junk mail, insurance offers, and letters from my parents.

Then I found one letter with a return address that seemed familiar. I placed the other envelopes on the dining table and opened the last letter.

Slowly, my face gaped open in pure shock. The world around me broke into pieces, like glass.

Dear Haru,

I hope you are doing well at your new school. I wish you weren't so far away from Shirakawa. We could've spent our high school years together there. But, I've got good news! I've been transferred to your school! I'll be coming tomorrow, but you don't need to pick me up. I can't wait to be with you! Hope you have room in your house for me Darling, because that's where I'm staying!

Love, Keiko!

P.S. Before I arrive, the movers will be visiting to unload my stuff in your house! XOXO.

I finally regained my composure when I finished reading the letter. A deep sigh passed through my lips. It was going to be a crazy day tomorrow.

But I didn't have time to worry about it, because I gotta put the hot dogs in the pot while the water's boiling!

The next day...

I ended up walking to school. I was too preoccupied with my thoughts to do my normal running.

“Hey you!”

Suddenly, a familiar voice broke through my train of thought.

Snapping my neck, I saw that it was Alexandra that called me. Today she was wearing a black fedora, a white-buttoned, long-sleeved shirt with a red-and-black striped tie, a short black skirt, and a pair of ankle-high boots.

"Can I help you, Alex?" I asked with a puzzled expression.

She didn't say anything to me; she simply scowled at me with reddened cheeks. Then she walked up to me with tremendous speed.

At first, I thought she was going to beat me up for last night's incident. However, she stopped before she got to close.

"This belongs to you!" She extended her hands and handed me my jacket, the very same that I lent her yesterday.

"Thanks."

"D-Don't get the wrong idea! I'm grateful that you gave me this and helped me back home, b-but I'm never going to forgive you for seeing me naked!"

With her bright red face, she stormed past me and hastily dashed toward school.

I could only shrug my shoulders, and continue walking to school. I knew she was still mad at me for the incident, but I assumed she might’ve mellowed down a bit. Even though she did try to kill me, I still had to be the bigger man and not hold it against her since it was, also, my fault as well.

Homeroom, 8:10PM...

"Well, class," Ms. Hatsugawa began, "today is our last day of the three-day homeroom. I'm going to miss all of you when you leave, and I wish that you’ all have great semester. I hope to see you again, at next homeroom! Now, before I let you guys off, I would like to introduce to you a new student who had just transferred here today!"

I knew whom she was talking about, but I couldn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. It seemed she arrived even earlier than the letter mentioned. Maybe she caught an early flight and just landed early this morning. But wait, wasn't she supposed to come by my house first? Then maybe it isn't Keiko!

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

From the doorway, a tall and beautiful girl walked in. She had long, strawberry blonde hair that bordered pink, with peach-colored skin, and light-brown eyes to match. A pair of sunglasses sat on her head. She wore a teal V-neck top that exposed her large, well-formed breasts. A beige sweater was tied around her waist, followed by a pair of short shorts with long black leggings, and a pair of black, thin sneakers with a white front laces.

“Everyone, I would like you' all to meet our newest student from Shirakawa, Japan, Ms. Keiko Yamaguchi!”

Yep, it was definitely Keiko. I'd recognize that strawberry blonde hair and large bust anywhere. I just wish she would've came a little later, so I could mentally prepare myself.

Keiko placed one hand on her hip, while the other formed a peace sign over her right eye. In perfect form, she lifted her left leg up, like she was a J-pop star or one of the girls from Sailor Moon.

"Hey everyone!" she greeted. "My name is Keiko Yamaguchi, and I can't wait to get to know all of you! Please, take good care of me!"

Immediately, almost all of the males in my class were staring at Keiko with perverted eyes. Her beauty enamored even some of the female students, too. The other girls who weren't impressed by Keiko grew jealous.

When I realized that she was coming to my school, I was afraid that something like this might happen.

Before anyone in class could say something to her, Keiko noticed me. She smiled and leaped, wrapping me in an intimate embrace.

"Haru!" She pounced, wrapping her arms around me in an intimate embrace.

I struggled to break free, but it was no use; she was too strong for me to escape.

Oh God, I could feel her boobs pressing against my arm! They're so soft!

"Haru, it's been so long since I've seen you! I missed you so much! So I begged to be transferred to the same school as you! I love you!"

I could tell I was receiving hateful glares. Not just the jealous male students and female students, but also from Elizabeth and Alexandra.

This was going to take a lot of explaining to do.

Hey there, kman! I'm jumping into this novel without having read the first chapters, so pardon me if I miss something that was addressed earlier.

Let's see, starting off with technique. You seem to write a lot in what I call 'potentials'—I would, she would, etc.—which weakens the effect of the actions your characters are taking. By placing it in a potential future, instead of a firm and very real present, you take away the weight of what they're doing.

In addition, you use semicolons a lot. While they're all used correctly (as far as I can see), they're in places they really don't need to be, and where you should probably use a period instead. My honest advice would be to go through and take out every single semicolon in this chapter, replace it with a period, and see what sentences are actually desperately calling for semicolons. I use semicolons a lot, too, but it's rare that you actually need one for dramatic effect.

“There; that'll give her some time to cool off!” my feet stopped moving; turning around, my expression faded when I saw where the blast originated.
You don't need either of these semicolons in this example, for instance. Instead, you could have an em dash (—) after 'There', and you could end the second sentence after 'moving', separating the reaction into its own sentence where it's given the weight it needs.

In addition, 'my feet stopped moving' is not a dialogue tag, so 'my' should be capitalized, as it's a new sentence. Unless the character's feet stopping motion is the source of the words, you don't connect the dialogue to the sentence after it.

I couldn't really follow the rest of your chapter, since it was rather long and you skipped around quite a bit, so I think I'll end this review with these technical issues I noticed. Best of luck, and keep writing!

I think you have a good sense of building suspense in a story; all-in-all, I found the beginning to be rather thrilling. Furthermore, your writing has a certain sense of charisma to it that's rather enjoyable; I find it bemusedly quirky.

For areas to work on, I'd say pick stronger details and work on making your dialogue sound like real people talking. I wasn't into the dialogue all that much, because it didn't really sound authentic.

I was making a decent dinner: hot dogs.

The sentence above illustrates the next point I'm going to make; appeal to emotion. Make us feel like we're in the story by appealing to our senses; "hot dogs" is not a really ideal description of a decent dinner. How salivating are the hot dogs? Appeal to our sense of taste and our eyes. Cut out the excessive details that don't appeal to our senses and add ones that make sense to hook us into the story. It takes some practice, but I think you have what it takes to make it.

You're not a bad writer, so keep at it, and don't get discouraged because your story stays reviewless for so long...there are over 500 pieces in the green room, writing sort of tends to get stuck in there. Good luck.
