How do I stand?

E - Everyone

In stories to write

How do I stand

to be alive

when I know it will soon end.

How do I stand

to write a poem

about a subject

that everyone has thought of before.

How do I stand

to make a joke

when I know no one will laugh.

How do I stand

to speak to people

when I know no one will hear.

How do I stand

to feel so sad

when I know

there are people worse off.

How do I stand

to ask a question

when I know no one will answer?

How do I stand

to make a poem

that I know

will make few change?

How do I stand

to have great friends

and barely know their names?

How do I stand

to let something I said

continue and be mistaken?

How do I stand

to have a dream

and for it I risk it all.

How do I stand

to interrupt

when a year ago I would be silent.

How do I stand

to open my eyes

and forget about so much.

How do I stand

to turn on a light

when I know it soon will break?

How do I stand

to forget all others

and think only of myself?

How do I stand

to finish a book

never to experience it again.

How do I stand

not knowing what it's like

to be another?

How do I stand

to have a friend

but never get to see them?

How do I stand

to worry my problems

when others have their own to solve.

How do I stand

to feel so free

yet trapped because I risked another.

How do I stand

to not know

if I'm a terrible person or not.

How do I stand

to speak my mind

or to say nothing, but never be heard.

How do I stand

to have no idea what to do

when people can't get things done.

Hello!

Overall, I love it. The repetition works wonderfully in the poem; it's repetitive enough to make a statement, yet not so much so that it's boring.

But, this is a review, and if I focused on the positive it would be no help to you.

So what do I think you should work on? Well, for starters, the poem is really long. You just keep putting up point after point after point. There's a lot to be said about knowing how much is too much.

Also, the points don't seem to be in any particular order. If you organized them somehow, I think it would seem quite a bit tighter and better-pieced-together.

Finally, quality over quantity. I would suggest taking out some of the verses that you don't think are as good, because when I read this I got kind-of bored toward the end.

Sorry if that was a bit harsh. I actually really liked your poem. These days, there aren't very many people who think about those things like you did (I say that in a good way.)

Thanks for the review, I thought it might be a bit much so I waws waiting if other people thought so. Really good review though, thanks!

Well, to answer the underlying question of this poem I think it's just because we are human, we are living beings, and its just what we do. I just don't think we'd find any compromise if we thought like this poem says.
Anyhow, great poem. If it's any consolation I think our words will make a change.
"How do I stand

to make a poem

that I know

will make few change?"
For grammar's sake, I think it would be better to put an "s" at the end of change. Other than that I see nothing wrong with this poem and think it is really thoughtful. Everyone on this site thinks up some really amazing things.
Bye~

I like the theme here, there are some great ideas.
I think this big block of text, and the consistent repeat of 'How do I stand' actually starts to become very arduous. I think you need to cut this down to something a bit more simple. Also maybe some uniformity in length and rhythm could create a better flow.

Something that really helps me is to write my poems out as prose and read it aloud. That way I really get to see how it fits, what the cadence is and whether it's comfortable. It also helps with punctuation.

I hope some of that is helpful. Nice work

hello! Kamryn here with a quick review!

I'm kinda emotional right now so I'm sorry If I don't make any sense, but let's get right into it :)

Introduction:

right off the bat I like the concept of the poem, but as I kinda just scanned, the huge paragraph makes no sense to me why it's in this poem. And it seems like some coding went wrong...yeah I just read it and it's super confusing. this poem can do without that whole thing.

Formatting and Punctuation:

I like the formatting just get rid of the paragraph in the middle of it.

Flow and Phrasing:

flow is kind of choppy but I don't know if that was stylistic or what, because i make some of my poems choppy because that's how I want it read. One thing I noticed, there are some things in here that aren't as meaningful as others. Like:

"How do I stand

to make a joke

when I know no one will laugh."

and

"How do I stand

to ask a question

when I know no one will answer?"

I mean there are some really, really good thoughts in here and those two just kind of look dull in comparison.

Vocabulary:

nothing I haven't mentioned

Grammar:

"How do I stand

to make a poem

that I know

will make few change?"

I'm guessing you meant *changes

Style:

I really think this poem has so much potential if you just delete a few things. I loved how this really got me thinking!

------

Hope that wasn't too confusing, I hope you make the changes I suggested, would make a really good poem!

-Kamryn

For the changes part "I'm guessing you meant *changes" I meant will make not a lot of people view things differently.

maybe you should clarify by putting "people" :) like "few people change"

The huge paragraph was meaningful to me

I'm sorry, but it ruined the poem, and it didn't make a lot of sense...

I checked with 3 people... They lied to me
