i am thinking of writing poetry.
and by that i mean i will be writing
the same thing again but with
different flavoring.
i'll disguise something mundane
as something profound and play
it up to be something nuanced.
fuck, i don't even understand nuance.
but i'll just say i do.
next i'll use a multi-syllabic word and
flavor it with something like a prefix
or a suffix and i'll write all this pretty
imagery that means nothing. shit. let
me try this again.
i'm going to write something about this
"life" and then say something
"avant-garde" or whatever. i'll litter it
with semicolons, commas, and hyphens, probably.
do i read tiktok?
it's the same method every time.
take a freeze-frame of your mundane, cushy,
simple life and make it seem horrible. write something
semi-profound in hopes of chasing that feeling when
you wrote that poem about being far from home and
continue pursuing. use long words. use false nuance.
use whatever you can to make yourself something
more than you are.
that's the irony of it all. i pump myself to be some. "great
poet". it's all shit. it's all sad songs mixed with late mights
and stargazing and convincing myself it will pay off and
saying that i will be mature enough one day and telling myself
that i'm really maybe truly good.
and i'll end off with a shitty final line at the end to make it seem "cool".

Hello, My Friend!
Hi, Eulogy! Hope your day/night has been well thus far. I spotted this poem in the Green Room and hoped to give it a quick review. Hope you don't mind!
To start, I loved this! It almost feels like poetic satire and it works on so many levels. I found myself cracking up at so many points, but I mean, it's so true at the same time! The dramatic language, finding all the words that feel the most clever, a long-winded title to catch the eye—sometimes we like to think it is just us being emotional or clever, but man, especially when you get to that point of "writing poetry for the sake of writing poetry," if it isn't just as simple as just going through the motions.
*ahem* Anyway, as far as a technical review goes, I have nothing to recommend! I thoroughly enjoyed this as-is.
Favorite lines and parts, hm...I would have to go with:
I mean, is not the root of like...80% of poetry giving reason to the mundane? lol. That was a great line, and I also like how you repeatedly seem to break the fourth wall a bit, cutting yourself off with a curse and arguing a bit with yourself. These really feel like thoughts that would cross our mind as we write—not even poetry, but pretty much anything!
Ngl, that part made me laugh lol.
This I really felt—chasing that "perfect poem" you were able to write so seamlessly once forever ago, and you just can't. In part because the source material just isn't there!
Overall, this was such an awesome exploration of the writing process from the perspective of a tired poet, and again, it works on so many levels. Nicely done!
"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."
So relatable. And when you’re aware of these facts, it makes it even harder to try and make something you think is worthwhile, because it’s so insanely hard trying to write something deep yet easily readable, not too dramatic yet not too soft, not too long not too short, without mundane phrases or terms yet still with your own voice, *finding* that voice, your voice, and being able to.. well, write naturally with it. It’s all about trial and error, I suppose. *goodness* writing is hard. It’s amazing that any of us even try at all, you included. Let’s give you a round of applause, eh?
thank you for writing about what so many of us were thinking.
I honestly don’t know anything.. but to the people out there: write what you want, whatever feels cathartic and comfortable, and there will be people who relate to and admire whatever form that takes. <3 Just random Neanderthal thoughts from a girl who can’t sleep *magically disappears*
i honestly really like this as a person who doesnt usually read poems but i find this really relatable :3
far too realistic. i keep writing poems like they're mad libs
