Chapter One

I haven’t seen Jenny in weeks. Ralph, Eddie, and Eirisse are gone, too. I remember Ralph asking me if I felt like someone was watching me a few days earlier and I told him that I thought it was Jenny. I want it to be Jenny who watches me, but I know that she doesn’t care.

My parents told me not to worry about it. My little sister, Angela, thinks that humans kidnapped them.

Maybe with the others, but not Jenny. Jenny’s too smart to be kidnapped. She might just need somebody to visit her.

I’m going to see her after lunch. I’ll talk to her.

I’ll check on her.

Chapter Two

Boy, I sure do love eating brains with a side of veins! Mom made them for me. I’m part zombie from my Mom’s side, so I must get my proteins from bloody treats!

And of course, I want to have energy for when I go see Jenny. If I’m not energized enough, then things won’t go as well.

My little sister, Angela, is eating her brains and veins very messily, getting blood everywhere. She’s getting blood on my claws. Yes, she’s that messy that it’s spraying everywhere. It’s disgusting and now I’m going to have to clean it up later.

She seems to think it’s funny from how she’s giggling. I don’t see how this can be humorous when I am a mess.

I need to look good for Jenny.

Chapter Three

I finished eating. I’ve also washed my claws of the blood that was on them, so now I look clean. Well, clean for a zombie-alien, but still clean.

I’m in front of Jenny’s house. It’s hard to miss, with its scarlet paint and magenta stripes going up and down. The roof is purple and the house is tilted on the right side. It may be an eyesore to some monsters, but it’s beautiful to me, because Jenny lives there.

I knock on the door.

Chapter Four

She’s not answering. Hmm…that’s un-Jenny-like behavior! Usually she answers the door very loudly and with joy. But there’s only silence.

Well, I’m not going to waste any time standing around and waiting for her. If Jenny isn’t here now, then something is wrong.

I raise my claws up to the door and break the wood. We monsters are expected not to break each other’s doors because it’s “polite”, but this is an emergency and that door needs to be broken.

My claws are starting to hurt but I’ll keep doing it.

Chapter Five

After a while, the door breaks. I run through the hall, calling out for Jenny.

“Josh?! What are you doing here?!”

I hear her voice somewhere in the house! She’s here! She’s okay! Well, she sounds okay. I’m going to go check on her.

Chapter Six

Her voice is coming from upstairs. I run up the stairs, which is a little hard to do, since they’re not all the same size, but I manage to make it to the top.

I bound over to the white door with blue and yellow polka dots on it, because that’s where Jenny’s voice is coming from and…

She’s sitting on her knees on the floor, black makeup goop dripping from her mismatched eyes.

Chapter Seven

“I came here to check on you. You haven’t been out in days.”

I walk up to her and place a claw on her shoulder. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do, but I want to help.

“Is everything okay?” I ask, my voice soft like that ghost-skeleton boy’s voice. What’s his name? Eddie. Yes, he’s Eddie.

Chapter Eight

Jenny lifts her head up a little bit more and rolls her eyes.

“Does it look like it’s okay? My parents are humans! Or they used to be, before they died. They told me that all of the monster adults here were people.”

Jenny chokes a little on her tears after she’s done talking. I’m a little caught off guard by her words. What does she mean by her parents being human? And what about everyone else?

“What do you mean?”

Chapter Nine

“Josh, did you not hear me the first time? All of the adults were once living people! Something happened that made them monsters. My parents forgot exactly what, but it’s still a lot. I wish they told me before…”

Jenny starts to cry again. If what she said is true, which I think it is, then that means that my parents used to be humans and that…

Mr. Smells-like-the-dead is also a human.

Chapter Ten

I think I’d scream if my throat weren’t clogged with blood. All of the adults here are human and they didn’t think to tell us?

I can see why Jenny would cry, but I’m not sure how to help. Will hugging her work? I want to hug her.

Before I can stop myself, my arms are wrapped around Jenny. I don’t want her to cry anymore. It feels strange and wrong.

“This all does sound crazy, but they’re still your parents, even though they’re human. They still feel and think the same. Do you want to talk to them? I’m sure it’s not so bad.”

Chapter Eleven

Jenny doesn’t say anything. I’m a little scared that she has officially decided to stop talking for good. What if-

“I guess, but it’s just…why didn’t they tell me before? Why did they lie to me?”

“Probably because they are scared of what you’ll think. You’re scared of them now but maybe they were scared to tell you.” I say.

Jenny seems to think for a moment. I hope that I don’t have to hug her for long, my arms are getting tired and they feel like they’re about to fall off.

“Okay, I’ll talk to them. Let go of me!”

She pushes me off of her rather hard, but I don’t mind.

I can’t really feel pain as much as humans anyway.

Chapter Twelve

I follow her out into the living room. Jenny calls out for her parents, tells them that she wants to talk, the door to the kitchen creaks open.

“Jenny, you want to see us? We’ve been waiting for you!” An older girl’s voice exclaims happily.

That’s what it sounds like. Not like a woman, but a teen girl. That’s what it sounds like to me, anyway.

Chapter Thirteen

If I were alive, my heart would feel like it dropped down to my stomach. A ghostly teen girl comes out of the door, completely white, save for the blood on her dress. I would have thought she’d be a woman, but I guess not.

“How did you guys become monsters? How did you get here?” Jenny asks. Her voice sounds nervous, on edge. I don’t like it.

But the girl-her Mom-smiles softly.

Chapter Fourteen

“We all came here as a joke. This place was abandoned and we wanted to have fun on Halloween.” Mrs. La Rue says as her ghost seems to sway above the floor.

“But we went too far and then, the town itself overtook us, killing us and-“

“What?!” Jenny asks desperately. I’m not saying anything, I’m only listening.

“The town killed us and made us monsters.” Mrs. La Rue says simply.

Chapter Fifteen

“The town itself is a monster. Jenny, I know you’re mad at us for lying to you, but-“

“Mad? HA! Why would I be mad? I’m just surprised that you guys were human at all. So where’s Dad?”

I turn to look at Jenny. Her smile doesn’t look as strained anymore and she’s talking more like herself. I think she’s okay now!

Chapter Sixteen

“Right here. Who’s your friend?”

Me and Jenny both jump when we see the ghostly teen boy with black, goopy tears oozing out of his wide white eyes. I’m a little shocked that Mr. La Rue doesn’t know me. This town isn’t that big. Am I not that important? Am-

“Friend? That’s stretching it. He’s just somebody I know.” Jenny cackles, a familiar glint in her eyes.

Okay, sheesh. She doesn’t have to say it like that.

Chapter Seventeen

“Oh really? What’s your name?” Mr. La Rue asks, grinning from ear to ear the way he would as a clown.

“I’m Josh! How do you not know me?! Everybody knows everybody! This town isn’t big enough to-“

“In any case, you shouldn’t be in our house. Everything is just as it needs to be. Get out.” Mrs. La Rue seethes.

Chapter Eighteen

Before I can even say a word, I feel myself being propelled out of the ground by a plank that pushed me up into the air.

I forgot that the La Rue’s house does that. It’s one of their clownly tricks that they have in their home.

I can hear Jenny laughing and though my rotten heart grows warm at the thought, I also don’t like flying in the air.

I guess it’s good that I’m not alive.

Chapter Nineteen

I’m on the dirt ground right now. I think what Jenny said is true and if that’s the case, then I have to talk to my parents about it.

Or not. Maybe I don’t have to tell them that I know they’re human. They might not want to talk about it.

But I don’t know if I don’t want to talk about it.

Chapter Twenty

Ahead of me, I see the path to Eirisse’s home. The trees sway with the wind, roses are caught in the leaves. Come to think of it, I don’t think that I’ve seen Eirisse at all. Or Ralph and Eddie.

But they’ll be back soon. I think I’ll write a poem for Jenny in the dirt right now. Where’s a stick…

There! I’ll use this stick to write something to her! I’ll cover it up later so she won’t see it. My brain is oozing out of my ears. I’ll clean it up later.

It will all be done later.

I haven't read the previous chapters but from reading this part the idea sounds quite interesting, I like the suspense it has , it kept me hook. I will read the previous parts also but the concept is nice . I really liked it .
