Welcome Home - Chapter 2

I was back at the mirror again after getting some sleep, holding up different sweaters to my Dalek t-shirt. After a while of debate between the red one and the white one, I chose the red one.

Sporting my new, oddly colorful outfit, I went back to the console room, where I saw Missy, who had her dark curls pulled back in a bun, River, The Doctor, and the Gems. No humans (yet!).

Pearl, one of the Gems, looked up from a monitor on the console, and spotted me.

"Oh, hello Berri! You're awake," she exclaimed, almost startled.

"Hello bird mom," I replied, and I heard her scoff.

"My name is not bird mom."

"That's right, I'm sorry, it's Sigourney Weaver."

I heard Peridot (whom I called Paris) bust out laughing. Amethyst went, "Ooh, Pearl shot down by, um... I don't have a cool nickname for you yet, Berri. But ooh!"

"BERRI!" Pearl squawked, flustered. She glared at me, about ready to rip her hair out. Garnet didn't say a word. She just kept looking at the monitor.

"Where's the rest of the squad?" I asked them.

"I think they're still asleep," Paris said.

"They are," Garnet chimed in, looking up.

"How early is it?!"

"It would be seven o'clock in the morning at Home," River told me. I groaned. Most of the time, they were awake by now, but we'd been travelling for a few days, so it was understandable why they'd still be asleep. All I wanted in the moment, though, was to see my friends.

"Cy will be up soon," Garnet predicted, adjusting her sunglasses or... whatever it was she wore. She had the power to see into the future, which I thought was pretty cool.

"Future vision," I whispered excitedly. For those of you who don't know (which is most of you, unless you're not reading these in order), Cy is Cilan from Pokémon Black and White - and we were also kinda... together. I appreciated his presence in the universe and I was happy he existed. I know a lot of other people did too. Mostly his fangirls. Ugh. They were annoying. For many reasons, not just because we were dating.

He was also human.

I was a Time Lady. I had a lot of space-alien qualities, two hearts and I didn't need to sleep long, but I hadn't ever regenerated when I got hurt (and in my line of work, you get hurt a lot!) which left my species in the dark. Even with data scans from the TARDIS, nobody was sure of what I was.

But I digress.

Honestly though, it wasn't just him that gave me reason to wake up in the morning: it was my whole squad. Pokémon characters, Steven Universe characters (but you've already met some of them), Avatar: The Last Airbender characters, (but they didn't come travel with us) and obviously, Doctor Who characters. I enjoyed spending time with them and going to their respective universes.

Suddenly, amidst my thinking, I heard footsteps down the hallway, and I perked up. If I were a dog, I think my tail would be wagging at the speed of light. For the first time, I was awake and alive and here, and whoever it was coming down the hallway, I was excited to see them.

"Hello? You guys out there?" someone asked.

"Hello," I chirped, peeking down the hallway. It was Cy. Future vision!

"Berri?! You're up!"

"Yeeeep. Up and awake. You wouldn't believe it, but I'm writing again!" I paused for a second, looking at him. "Also, your bowtie isn't perfectly centered. And ahh! Hello!"

He laughed. "Who cares about the bowtie? Congratulations on the writing!"

Yes! Yes, yes and more yes!

"You two look happy to see each other," Pearl remarked, and that's when I laughed too.

"I'd say so," River agreed, "more than usual."

"It's just the first time I've been here and been able to see him - well, all of you, but... y'know." I shrugged. "I wanna do something today," I said, "something for real."

"Like what?" The Doctor asked.

"Anything. Take us anywhere," I told her, determined. I heard River whisper something along the lines of, "she's going to be a great companion when she's old enough," to The Doctor, who whispered something back, but it was so faint I couldn't hear it.

"We should wait until the others are up, Berri. But I'll take you guys somewhere..." Missy began, but trailed off. "How do you guys say it? Cool. Yeah. Cool." The Doctor chuckled a little. "Are you so out of what the cool kids say?" she asked, flipping her hair back. Missy gave her a classic, "Thirteen-what-are-you-doing-with-your-life" look, then simply gave up.

"If anyone needs me, I'm going to be reading. Alone. Until The Doctor can get a hold of her new self," she commented, slightly annoyed, then walked off.

"Huh," The Doctor said, "that was not what I anticipated for a response. Whoops." I snorted.

"Well then," Cy agreed, cutting through the awkward silence. "That was... interesting."

"That was amazing," I said, holding a hand over a heart. "I'm so glad I was a witness to this."

"Why?" Cy turned to me.

"Because," I responded. He smiled and put and arm around my shoulder.

"I'm happy you're here, Berri," he told me.

"I'm happy you're here too," I said.
