From when I was small, to right this moment,
I sort of always knew I was different.
I was flexible, didn't really care about boys,
Or girls for that matter, I just played with toys.
Kissing was weird and gross to see,
And even worse when someone did it to me.
Sex was a concept I didn't understand,
Being 'intimate' sounded oh so bland.
Everyone else was very much into it,
While I struggled to like it even a bit.
I enjoy romance but others want more,
And that is why I find it hard to find answers for,
Where is the romance in just lying with each other,
All I can think of how I would feel smothered.
I just want to cuddle and someone to hold dear,
Is that too hard to understand or is it all clear?

(I'm actually flailing, this is just-acdskljadfg) (I'm going to apologize in advance because I suck at reviewing poetry, but this is my new favorite poem so I want to give it a go)
I'm just going to point out that you can be intimate without all the sex and kissing and such. Intimate means to be close, private, personal; that kind of thing. I like the line, "Being 'intimate' sounded oh so bland" but intimate seems out of place? Unless you don't care to be intimate at all, that is. Then just ignore me.
"All I can think of *is* how I would feel smothered." Would the "is" work there? I like how it sounds, but I don't think it's necessary to add it? I dunno.
That's about it. I admire that you were able to make rhymes through the whole thing, because I can't rhyme if my life depended on it and I just appreciate the skill to do it and still make sense. I also just love this because it's me in the form of words when it comes to my being asexual. Especially the part about lying together being romantic and how everyone seems to want more than romance. I told understand why there needs to be any sex or kissing or anything (I struggle with the concept of both of them because I just don't get the appeal at all and can't wrap my head around why people would want to do it)
Anyways! I like it! A lot! Onto reading more of your poetry.
Keep writing, and good luck!
Well, the word intimate, at least how I meant in this poem, was sex or making out. I've often heard it used as people on TV ask about others sex, life, in which case they asked 'and are you two, 'intimate'?' but idk. Thanks for the review!
AMAZING POEM!!!!! You have brought something new to my attention. I will admit that I have not heard of this before.. It's good to have learned this, especially in such a beautiful way that you have presented it. I liked that this rhymed; it's a poem, that's what you expect. I can see why some wouldn't like it to rhyme, but I don't feel the same and really that doesn't matter because you wanted it to rhyme so it did.
Thank you for bringing asexuality to my attention!! Keep writing!!!
Wow, this is not what I expected, but well-done!
I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW HAPPY I AM THAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND THAT THIS IS GRTTING ATTENTION!
FEEL FREE TO SPREAD THIS POEM THRoUGH SCREENSHOTS AND STUFF BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PUT ME AS THE SOURCE AND AUTHOR AND STUFF
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
I LOVE YOU ALL (you're awesome)
Hey!
Just wanted to drop a comment and say that I thought this was awesome. It captures my own thoughts and feelings so well and I might even show this to people to explain what asexuality is.
Personally I've thought for years that "since I'm not attracted to other women I'm obviously straight" and then wondered why the heck I'm not attracted to men either, mostly because I didn't even know that asexuality is a thing. It was rather relieving to find some info about it online and realise that there's actually nothing wrong with me, but at the same time it's sad that it's so unknown.
Anyway, I really like this ^^
Hey..!
Okay, so I think that this piece was simple, yet beautiful. You captured the idea of asexuality very beautifully. There were no big, fancy words. Just the idea, the theme. I loved the simplicity of this poem. Sometimes we ought to do so much that the very idea behind the work gets lost somewhere. The simplicity was a refreshing break.
I think you have conveyed your ideas and thoughts very clearly.
All- in- all, it was a great read.
Keep writing!
Cheers!
Thanks, I tried not to overly explain it, since others identify as asexuals in other ways. It was straight from the heart, which is why there are few words with more than three syllables. Great to get so much positive feedback
I'd have to agree with you.
Hi, I'm Kayfortnight, here to review your piece. But first of all, I want to thank you for writing it. I've been questioning my sexuality-or lack thereof-for a couple of years now and getting nowhere. One of the sexualities I considered as maybe being my own was asexuality. Of course, I'm still not sure, but I do identify with it strongly, and I know how little known aces are. Everything anyone can do to get representation out there for the lesser known sexualities is a good thing in my book.
Unlike thePoetoaster, I actually really like the rhythm and rhyme present in this poem. I feel like if I read it aloud, it'd have a nice cadence to it. The only spot that's a little bit of a trip up is the first two lines, which don't match nearly as well as the rest.
I also like the colloquial nature of this poem. You know, how you're using a conversational tone and a touch of slang and idiom? It just feels nice after the pretentious nature of some poems.
All in all, really nice poem.
Thanks a lot, nice to know that other people who identify as asexuals are out there.
The rhyming was a bit difficult, so I understand that some things sound better than others.
Hey,
While I find the poem beautiful, I do have to say that it doesn't seem to flow to well. I see the point you're trying to make and I think It's a beautiful thing to write about and explain. Although I do feel as if this poem would be a bit better if it didn't rhyme. Not trying to be rude, sorry if it comes off that way.
It truly is brilliant in its own way.
Good luck to you!
That's a beautiful piece there. Sometimes also just want to just cuddle up. But others have different conceptions and want differently. You have put everything you feel into words perfectly.
Your avatar has an eerie connection to the words of this poem
Thanks, few people know of asexuals or asexuality at all, so I thought i should write something about how I feel as an asexual. I'm thinking of writing another poem about society and heteronormality or like sex in ads and stuff (its weird af if you think about it)
