Why Are The Faithful Dying?

Every Sunday when I was young

I used to go with my mother

Past the orchard where red apples hung

To the little white church on the corner

I used to sit beside her

In the wooden pews of old

And listen to the preacher talk

About angels and their God

My mother believed in Him

And in His righteous son

But that belief couldn't save her

When they found cancer in her lung

That Sunday I knelt before the dying statue

And whispered quietly to the air

Begging for my mother's life

To anyone happening to hear

I returned every Sunday after

And pleaded on my knees for her soul

But every Sunday she grew weaker

Her eyes going dim and her body growing cold

It'll be ten years tomorrow

Since the day my mother died

And death proved itself stronger

Than a magic man in the sky

I am not a bitter woman

But neither am I an innocent girl

There is no one amoung us immortal

There is no world after our world

Hiya, TheBlackSheep!

It is important, I think, to read literature with a completely open mind, and that is how I approached this piece. As a Christian, my beliefs differ -- I think -- from yours, but that's not what I am here to talk about, because looking beyond that, this piece really just struck me as beautiful.

I don't think you could have written with more truth. Though this piece was rather simple, I think that flowery language would have degraded it. The imagery throughout was enough to infuse feeling into the piece, and I was glad that I could appreciate the personal mark that you left upon it, in your well chosen words. I think this poem does your writing a great deal of justice, and it was powerfully written.

Wonderful job. cx I am so happy that you shared this, and I was able to read it.

Keep writing!

First off, hi there! Second, wow! That was really good, and very unique. Most people who write poetry like this don't exactly state what they feel because they feel other people who are big Christians will criticize harshly. But this is so well written and thought out that you should feel really confident about it! Keep writing!
