In Short Stories

We live in that place that most for you humans don’t really care about, a place where the flowers aren’t shy and how the rain dribbles from the clouds above you. We live in a place full of wonder and secrets that you don’t bother to glace at, in your garden. Such a nice place it is too, with the sun out today it is most likely to make everything come alive with a single touch.

The gnomes take a peek at the pots beside them, jumping like rabbits when the flower fairies stick their heads out. The dryads lean against the trees and giggle as the birds fly above them, soaring through the skies and hitting the cloud pixies. They’re the bunch of magical folk that loves to switch moods, so you must be careful around them, otherwise a storm will brew in their minds and lightening will be in their eyes. When rain cries from the clouds eyes, the water fairies come to play. They smile as the raindrop hits the floor, now walking around to glance at everything in sight. I wonder how long it will take until I get down.

It’s nearing the end of autumn, which means that I have to wait just a few more days until I can see everything in the winter season again. I’m tired of seeing nothing from the clouds above or waiting besides the raindrop for them to freeze. I seriously cannot wait until I see the flowers that shine with the sun or the water that looks like the frozen castle in the west.

The castle where it stands proud and tall, and the icicles dangle from the ceiling making it look like royalty. The servants welcome you with open arms there, offering to take your coat away and fixing up your clothes. If you don’t like that, they also offer you food and drinks from your wildest dreams, roast pork that makes your mouth drool when taking a bite and the sensation of drinking wine from a gold cup makes you shiver down your spine. Well, at least for me it did. I had never had any food like that before since I’m from the winter season, so warm foods really do fill my soul till my heart contains.

The wind is picking up to a freeze and from what I see up here; you guys have a lot to get through. I will never understand why you like to wear huge fur coats in the winter months, or maybe the boots that storm throughout the pixie village, making them disappear for these months to a different climate. Also, what’s with the thing on your heads? Don’t you like the feel of the frosty winds that makes me dance? Well, at least I see some people enjoying the season, even though they are in their houses. Drinking hot drink while taking in the warmth of the heater or blankets all around you, it’s such a depressing sight to me. Why not enjoy the snow?

Speaking of enjoyment, I’m about to fall off the clouds soon to the ground! I’m super excited, I just want to scream my lungs out and spin in circles until my vision becomes a messy painting. All this excitement that is bottled up inside of me is making my wings flutter frantically, sending more col winds to you guys. I get glares from the other people behind me; I couldn’t help but blush out of embarrassment.

This is pathetic, they’re taking forever to send us down and now I have to be at the back of the line to go down towards you guys and the pond. Why, oh why do I have to get super excited to go down when I’m only going to end up here, at the back of the line with no view of the good side of town?

The view is depressing on this side, people that are sleeping on benches or walking into this grand hall once a week only to be fed more, their tears of overjoy when they get a bowl of soup in their hands. I wonder if I could just go down there and cheer them up, or at least paint a smile on a child’s face.

That gives me an idea though; as I walk up to the person finally and persist that I want to go down to that part of town. He hesitates, before nodding in agreement and sends me down. The snowflake dances in the wind as I hold on tightly to the edges; my hair invades my vision as it floats in the air. The cold air is crisp against my cheek and spreads the icicles dangling from my ears. My dress begins to fly out, the once straight dress now flower petals that spread around me. The final thing that needs to be changed is my hair, which is currently tied in a tight bun on top of my head. It comes undone, leaving the giant mess swirling around me as I come closer to the ground.

The flake lands on a window sill; my feet are placed gently down on the pine wood. I glance inside, seeing a young girl sobbing her heart out as her mother is passed out on the couch. This is my time to shine. I tap on the window, causing the girl to jump in shock. I hold my hands up and shake them in warning. This is no time to be scared, that is my message I am trying to get across. She nods, running up to the window and placing her hand on her chin.

Boredom is painted across her features, however as I move my feet, curiosity creeps in her mind. I twirl, feeling the cold air stock my hair in delight as my hands spread out. My wings appear on my back, causing the girl to grin in delight as I fly into the air. I dance, feeling the sense of joy from this kid spread through my veins and my heart get warm.

A glow brightens from my chest as my heart begins to bring butterflies and this sense of hope. It spins and slips through the crack of the girl’s window, landing in her hand. She jumps, shaking the hope senses like they’re a rattle. I smile, telling her to open the box to see the wonders that lie inside. To be frank, I have never seen what my hope senses can create, however I heard they’re the best gift anyone could ever receive. She snaps it open and her eyes grow wide.

Mine do to, there is this necklace that’s a simple snowflake. There is something inside the middle though; a figure of what these people call a ballerina is dancing in there! Wow! She is gorgeous; her long orange hair swirls around as her point remains perfect. Her eyes are snapped shut; however her expression is painted as if she is a princess, so delicate and graceful and she wants to bring peace to the land.

There is so much more I have to do tonight, so I tap on the window. The sound echoes in her ear and makes tears appear again. I sigh, this always happens. I wish they can see that she, as well as the other dozen or so people that I still have to meet up with, can see each other again. I wave, my wings fluttering into the sky leaving snowflakes to sweep the grounds below me. The cold air illuminates from my mouth as I fly over the trees. The sounds of the girl’s giggles and the mother’s laughter play over in my head, things are better for now.

You see, snowflakes are the majesty of Mother Nature. It causes tears of sorrow, depression and frustration, yet within the centre of the mysterious frozen tear from the clouds lays a princess. Her grace and beauty brings that tiny bit of hope in the winter that some people desperately need.

I agree with the other two guys. This story is amazing and different. I really love the enthusiasm of the main character to bringing joy to people. I can agree with the main character's point of how we all need a little more happiness in life. I, for one, am one of those people who get really depressed during winter. Love the story, and keep up with the good work!

I really liked this story, your details, and especially your style, and how you wrote it. Yes, as some other guy mentioned as well, I did see a couple grammatical mistakes, but the overall theme and wording it draws the attention well away from them.

The only thing is - grammatically - I feel that you over use semi-colons a bit. If you don't know how to connect sentences, just think of something that may fit together better, or just make two separate sentences. Trust me, it won't look choppy. It also saves you from having run-on sentences, like I glimpsed just a itty bitty bit in your story.

Anyway, I love the way you write, and I'll be following you for future content.

Hello there! Would you like to hear my thoughts? OK!

I really liked how you described all the different creatures, how and when they come out. The way they all love their jobs, and the main characters excitement, was very refreshing. It made me wish more people in our world, could have that same kind of love for what they do; so many times I see people miserable! And that makes me miserable! So it's beautiful, that way I think.

It was interesting to me, how you wrote it, almost as if it were poetry. Was it meant to be like that? I kind of liked it.

I saw a few grammar mistakes, though I'm not the person to point them out. I think if you read it again yourself, you'd get most of them.

I thought the moral was good also, though I know a lot of people who LOVE winter, and snow ( including myself :-P ). But maybe that would just mean we wouldn't need the snowflake princess.

Anyway, I quite enjoyed this story of yours! And I see you have another one, so might go check it out!!!

See you around!
