The Fox

The secret of the fox, ancient mystery.

Somewhere deep in the woods, I know you're hiding.

I usually like to stick my ears up from the bush and listen to the sounds of the whispering wind. It blows against my hair, shoving all my white hair in my vision. I growl, brushing it all out of the way. You humans don’t see me that often, heck the hunters of your kind try to shoot my animals down. It annoys me when you think that just because you have a gun, a phone thing or something fancy you can get away with destroying my animal!

How frustrating!

Still, this is what you get when being a Fox Guardian. All of our people always try and protect the delicate creatures from the loud shouts of the weapon you so stare at it so lifelessly. Also, you seem to get frightened over people with red eyes and snow coloured hair. Well, I’m sorry for being born that way! I’m only two centimetres tall with cat ears sticking at the top of my head so what do you expect! You can’t be frightened anyway, it’s cool! Well, to me it is anyway.

So, what day is it today? To be honest, today is just one of those days where I just wish you weren’t around. It’s hunting day. Your day to shoot down a bear of a deer to stick it’s head on a wall in your house. That’s right, I’ve seen it done! The Bear Guardian is just wining about how he can’t do anything about it and the Deer Guardian says that she’ll move to a new country!

This is mind boggling really. I just want you guys to not destroy my animal, otherwise there will be no more barking from the fox.

Anyway, I’m just catching a ride on a random fox when suddenly a loud bang rings throughout my ears. The fox stops, taking a pause of every movement of his body and yelping. The high pitched yipping noise echoes throughout the forest which causes me to cover my ears, falling off the fox and landing in the dirt with a dull thud. I look up, seeing that he’s no longer there.

My eyes widen as I stand, my vision darting to every corner of the forest. Where did he go! I have to find him! With all the power I have in my legs, I stood and moved my head all around. I close my eyes, rubbing out everything from my memory to get my foxes scent. An orange line focuses in my pupil and I grin, opening my eyes and begin to sprint.

The wind brushes my hair back from my face as I travel in this maze towards an opening. The trees begin to fall into a straight line and all the animals are staring at me like I’m some sort of a freak or something. I stop, huffing as I dart my eyes around the place. There’s one of your cabins sitting in the middle of the place and the smell of burning wood invades my senses. The animals are hiding, crawling away into the bush or borrows to escape that Hell. I blink, wiping all the sweat off my forehead.

Confusion sits in my mind; however I begin to creep towards the house. Hopping over logs, which you humans call sticks, I make it towards the grand door. My eyes grow huge and a gasp escapes my lips. It’s huge, not to mention a strange smell creeps from the crack, like when the Bear Guardian drinks too much nectar. Strange music echoes the area, something about a fox and a ringing noise or something. What kind of song is that?

It’s too strong and weird! You humans need to control your intake and you also need to change your music.

I get on my knees and crawl under the crack, entering the Hell that everyone I know tries to avoid. The smell of animal blood and that weird drink engulfs my personal bubble, making me feel like I’m suffocating. A sudden high pitched noise screams in the sudden silence, slicing through the walls.

My fox! How dare that person capture my fox!

I frown, running towards the back room. My legs feel as if they could fall off at any moment but I need to keep it off my mind. Instead, I concentrate on this hideous song in the background.

What kind of song is this anyway? Why does it keep repeating itself about a fox’s noise? Actually, why is it making weird noises whenever it says what does the fox say? It goes yip! Not ring or chow or whatever you humans sing! I groan in annoyance, just why are you discriminating my fox? You humans are so dumb!

It goes yip! Yip!

I make it to the back of the house, the open area surrounded by shape objects and my fox!

It’s in a cage though but that’s easy to get out of. I walk over to my fox, destroying the door of this metal jail and hopping on his back. I tap his nose, causing him to dash into the house. A man with startling blue eyes glares at the both of us, dashing out the door with a net. As if that’s going to stop us! We dash around the net and disappear into the woods, hiding in a nearby bush.

I huff, leaning against my fox’s fur and closing my eyes. That was unbelievably annoying. Annoying I say!

Well, I guess I’ll be seeing you guys around then. Remember, a fox goes yip. Yip!

Will always be a mystery what do you say?

Hi, I'm Celticmusicgirl and I'll be reviewing this piece today.

Okay, so I really like the way you narorated this story. You kept the reader's attention without boring them. Good Job! I really like your idea. Foxes are my favorite wild animals. However, I would like a little more description as to what the person who is two centimeters tall looks like. Is it a boy or girl? Short hair or long? Are they young, teenage, young adult, or older adult? What is their name? What color is their hair? What are they wearing? Are they human or a faery or leprechaun? I want to know about the person that saves the fox.
I didn't spot any spelling/grammar errors so good job on that.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. it was very interesting and exciting. just elaborate on the details some and this will be great. Please post more and PM me when you post more.

I'm sorry, but when I heard that song I thought the same thing as your character. "Foxes yip. THEY YIP!"

This was really creative, I have to say. I've personally never read anything like this. I have to wonder, is this what popped up in your head when you heard the song, or did you just think of after a while? Anyway, I thought this was really creative. (As said before)

Hello SunsetSprite! I believe that I have reviewed your work once before, and I'd like to again! :P

I really liked that this had that song 'What Does The Fox Say' incorporated in to this, it made me laugh, truly. Also, fun fact, the first time I heard that song was just last week... So I would have had no clue what was going on if my friend had not introduced me to it.
I love how easily annoyed this character gets sometimes, it's quite entertaining.

It blows against my hair, shoving all my white hair in my vision.

You use hair twice in this sentence, it kind of sounds off to have to same word used more than once in one paragraph. So maybe if you did something like:

'It blows against my hair, shoving the white mess into my vision.'

OK, now, when you said 'little' I had no idea you meant two centimetres! That's a bit too small in my opinion... Because I can picture this red eyed, white haired, forest girl that's about 6 feet tall, like an elf. Of course, then she couldn't ride on the fox, so... What if she was two inches, or even half a foot? That way she'd still be small enough to get ridden, and it would also feel like she had a bit more substance.

Anyway that's just my thoughts.

Lastly I'd like to say that you've got a pretty cool writing style, and I really think these little sprite - like creature stories are very well thought up!

See you around!

Thanks bunches! *hug* I'm glad you like it!

Haha! *hugs back* you're welcome! :-P
