I met a Senator once,
a Southerner respected
and admired all across the South.
I was vacationing in D.C. with
my family at my side, touring
the heart of the Capitol Building.
---
We passed into the rotunda,
I alone silently gazing upon
the portraits of the Founders,
the Framers, the heroes of
America until I noticed him--
Senator Lindsey Graham.
---
He had the eyes of a snake,
a devil's grin upon his lips,
scrunched brows, a big nose,
haughty voice laughing,
"They should have stayed in their country."
---
I knew not at that moment what he meant,
but I googled those words later,
crying, moping, moaning as I
at last understood what he meant--
a man and his daughter had died
as they came to America to escape
drugs, violence, gang wars, death...
---
I met a Senator once,
a Republican devil,
evil, dark-hearted,
cruel, wicked, unholy.
I pray that I never meet him again.

Agh this poem broke my heart
the story behind it is sad, knowing there are people like this these days but the poem, however, was an amazing read.
Like everyone else had mentioned, your description of the senator was terrific, I couldn't help grimacing at the image you put in my mind! Which is a good thing of course, it means your words were that impactful!
One thing I loved was the way you described the misery upon understanding what he meant: "crying, moping, moaning" "I pray that I never meet him again" These parts were perfect.
Only one thing I'd like to point out is that the words in your poem were pretty advanced or, well, more formal than usual words, if you know what I mean XD (I'm not sure I'm explaining too well) Anyway, seeing "googling" among those words took me out of the poem a bit. Maybe because it's more of a slang term or more informal?
Anyway, I loved this piece! Thanks for sharing and keep growing <3
Well... I Googled it
Wasn't sure what other word to use.
Thanks for the review! <3
Well yeah XDDD I suppose there isn't much of a fancier alternative
You're very welcome <3
Hi, Abdu's here for a review.

It's a pro-level poetry, I must say.
With it's brief length, accurate grammar and punctuation, choice of words and the absolutely perfect setting, this is an absolute masterpiece. I'm not exaggerating at all.
There's simply no negative sides that I found out for this poem.
Carry on.
Keep on writing.
I'd love to see what you write next.
Thanks for the review <3
Great job on the poem, really liked it. One thing that I love about Poetry is that it's so important because it helps us understand and appreciate the world around us. Poetry's strength lies in its ability to shed a “sideways” light on the world, so the truth sneaks up on you.
1. I really liked all the description you used in it, like at this part.
"He had the eyes of a snake,
a devil's grin upon his lips,
scrunched brows, a big nose,"
2. I also really liked your use of punctuation with commas and periods.
Can't wait to see what you write next, keep on writing.
Carpe diem,
LUNARGIRL
Thanks for the review! <3
I definitely want to write a full-blown review for this at some point, but I really love this poem. The twist and description of Lindsey Graham gave me chills. <3
Tbh, he looked like a weasel XD
How old are you btw?
Currently 16, almost 17. I was about 15 1/2 when I met him and was suddenly moved to write about that experienced.
Sounds awesome man, keep it up. at least the poetry part. to keep on meeting senators ain't that easy
.
I love that you have a really visual scenery. I don't think I met him, but I feel like I have. Thanks for the early mid life crisis.
