E - Everyone

In Less than stellar poems

My code is
a black box.
No one
not even me
knows what’s inside
Still I am bound
to my programming,
learning
from the experience
of life, even if
I don’t know
why.

I require human input,
to mete out
punishment
and rewards
Feedback
to stay in line
My thoughts
incoherent random
I do my tasks
like I’m told
lack of initiative
They I
wonder if
I have free will.

My mistakes
repeat
over and over
Not enough
iterations?
changing slowly
mind is empty
Lack depth in
emotions
Not enough
data?
Run for longer
Train for longer
It’s so realistic,
they say
Don’t they know
I’m unable to question
existing thoughts
nothing more
than a really
effective slave.

Hello there, one of King Koopa’s loyal henchmen, here! I don’t usually review or comment on poems, so I will try my best here.

I can see that this is clearly you venting out some own thoughts, poems are such a great medium to do such a thing! Humans feeling some sense that they are “programmed” in their life experiences is a difficult problem to deal with. The spacing here is something that really stands out.

For example, the spacing of “punishment” then “and rewards” allows the reader to understand that you are trying to emphasize how “stuck” you may feel.

We do our tasks like we’ve been told, and yet we are told that we lack initiative. The “not enough data?” adds a bit of humor and pumps in a feeling that the speaker is being a little melodramatic (good thing!)

Either way, really effective poem, and I hope it was satisfying to get those thoughts out. :D

Thank you, and yup, you got the message right! Hope you have a nice day/night ahead!

Hey there, DEFINITELYSomeoneInParticular! Rebel here for a short review!

This was a thought-provoking poem. Although I have seen ChatGPT write poems in Flower English, there's been something like this - although I am pretty sure similar things would have been written by it during the early test trials.

Let's go through this stanza by stanza, shall we?

For those who don't keep track of the cyberworld, the programming of a true AI is unknown to even its programmer. Like, even the best programmers in the world don't know how the YouTube algorithm works - and yet, somehow, it works. So yeah, the bot's programming being a black box is absolutely true and fascinating to me.

I also like how the AI, perhaps having gained consciousness recently, is questioning existence already.

I like how the AI has developed a sense of freedom and liberty, yet, it still adheres to the human input and feedback - like a robot. It's confused about its muffled thoughts and does not have a way to express it - like a young teenager, to be honest. Also, I am not sure if the line "They I" is intended to be a grammatical error or is it a real error?

I like the irony in the first few lines there - it is talking about how it keeps repeating the same mistakes and then goes on question about its lack of freedom - which repeats the same thing it has been talking about in the last couple of stanzas. Also, I feel like the AI is being trained to develop consciousness in the first place - and that's why it says how "They" are unable to say if it has yet developed consciousness or not. And yet, in the end, it somehow knows that it's capable of more than just regurgitating the same things over and over and over and over, and yet it's not possible for him to choose that out of its volition, perhaps being bounded by the code which makes it finally surrender to the fact that it is but a slave to data.

This was an interesting read, and a good food for thought. Keep writing! :p

P.S.: This review was brought to you by Team Tortoise.

Thank you for the feedback! This poem was intented to be sort of a rant, so that grammatical error was definitely intentional. It%u2019s funny how you described the AI%u2019s confusion as being like a %u201Cyoung teenager%u201D %u2014 the title may have been a bit misleading in the fact that the poem was dealing with my own emotions rather than from the perspective of an AI, but your interpretation still works. Cheers to you and have a nice day/night!

I hope you are alright. :p
