Stubborn

E - Everyone

In Poetry

You can try

To fathom me

But I am deeper

Than the sea

You can lie

And I'll believe

But you can't curb

My dignity

You can pull

But I'll still stand

I'll be fire

In your hands

You can push

But I'll stay firm

I'm a rock

And I don't learn

*

We are stubborn

You and I

I'll accuse

And you'll deny

Driven by pride

We fight each day

For the same prize

In separate ways

*

You can try

To hold me back

But I don't care

My time won't last

You can bend me

In your grasp

But I'll keep pushing

Until I

Snap.

Gummy's the name, reviewing's my game! Tonight, I'll be reviewing "Stubborn" by LaughingHyena! All right, onto my review!

I like how this poem can relate to even me! I'm really stubborn, and I'll defend any point I believe in until the end, regardless of how bitter it might be! But, I digress. I love the metaphors you used to describe the stubborn attitude. Also, my favorite pun in the poem lies within the words "fathom" and "sea", since "fathom" is also a name for the unit used to describe how deep something is underwater.

I guess they'll just have to love us stubborn people the way we are, 'cause we're not budging for anyone! Anyway, I'll get to the closure. As always, take care and keep writing! Remember that the key is to keep practicing! I expect to read more from you in the near future!

Hi, Hyena! I really liked this poem. I liked how you made this poem flow. I liked how you described the stubborn attitude- very well described.

My favourite lines would be:

"We are stubborn
You and I
I'll accuse
And you'll deny
Driven by pride
We fight each day
For the same prize
In separate ways"

I liked this line very very much. It is very true with humans- several people wnting the same thing.

Overall; a lovely poem.

I Love it! I can relate to this! It is a piece that speaks the real truth. Truth . . . Such a mysterious word. You never really know if your hearing it or not. But this poem speaks truth. I have heard many poems I don't know if are truthful. You have a talent. Embrace it. Never bottle it up. If you bottle it up then it will lose it's specialness. So live with knowing you are special. Never EVER let Anyone tell you your not special.

I like this poem because it's really honest. Few people actually write 'from the heart' without sounding cheesy, but you have done this, almost as if it's a conversation and that's a really cool effect. My only quibble is with the second stanza, it doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest of the poem, it makes sense in context, but it jumps a bit, almost like it's part of a separate poem. Otherwise, very good. And I love the honesty. :)

Heyy
Wow this is lovely! I was especially intrigued by the silhouette of the poem, very unusual but highly effective.

My favorite part is

"We are stubborn

You and I

I'll accuse

And you'll deny

Driven by pride

We fight each day

For the same prize

In separate ways"

It is so beautiful and describes so accurately human nature and i'm reminded of the crazy bond between two souls who cannot live without each other but cannot stand each other. Adorable

I would have changed a few ideas but that isn't too serious.

The way you concluded with just a single word "snap" - brilliant. It is truly the sign of a great writer to say so much in the least amount of words.
well done

Heyyyy! My first review in a while!

I LOVE THIS. hehe. Why can't I be extreme? :P So, I really do like this a lot. I think that this is the epitome of great heartfelt poetry. Instead of coordinated or specifically following a path, this poem flowed (so it seemed) straight from your heart, and it worked greatly to your benefit.

The only suggestion that I would have is to change:

But I am deeper

Than the sea

I think you could use some more imagery and your creative rhyming style to be able to rhyme it with something less overused. That said though, it still worked, just after reading that I was worried that I would get the "usual" poem but I was pleasantly surprised.

What I loved the most about what you wrote was your fantastic rhyming, you didn't exactly pick words that looked the same but they still rhymed, and I'm sure this has been done before, but it had a real effect on what you had to say in my opinion. I really liked it.

An example of what I found to be wonderful was this:

But I'll stay firm

I'm a rock

And I don't learn

I also liked the overall message in this it was so nicely put together and I do like the ending, but another constructive criticisim I'd give would be to change the "But I'll keep pushing" to "But I'll keep pushing back,

Until I

Snap." or

"But you keep pushing,

till I Snap."

Or something like that, why would she decide to snap herself? It doesn't seem to make sense there. But anyways, overall it was very nicely written, I liked the rhyming, and I thought the idea was beautiful and meant something. I love poetry that mean something and has a story behind it.

So, keep writing and dreaming! Hope the review helped! : )

Hey! I like the lines
'You can lie

And I'll believe"

"You and I

I'll accuse

And you'll deny

Driven by pride"

A great title to start a poem with 'Stubborn'. Coming on the negative traits.
The lines
'But I'll keep pushing

Until I

Snap."

You ended your poem with one word. Why don't you make it more like
'Until I snap' A complete sentence that would sound more sensible.
On the whole this was a short poem. Conveyed a small message too. Keep Writing that way you will improve more. You have talent.
Thanks.

Thanks for commenting, I separated 'snap' from the previous line because I intended it to kind of stand out more from the other words and have a bit more weight to it. This was the first time I've ever really written about actual human emotions, based on the personalities of several characters from books and my imagination, I really appreciate your advice :)
