In My Poetry

PreviousNext

Not to leave the earth completely,
but to give my consciousness a break,
to untether from this weight of bone and skin
and watch from a quiet corner

To be a ghost in the light,
untouchable, unheard, unseen,
a background character
in a story I no longer have to carry.

To dissolve into a crowd of strangers,
where everything is raw and new,
and no one knows the syllables of my name.

Just an observer,
drifting on the edge of life.
But the rope holds.

My life demands a body,
and so I stay,
exactly as I am.

Hi! I'm new to YWS, and this is the first work I've read! I'm sorry you feel so tired, but I'm glad you were able to channel it into art. I hope it makes you feel better. I really like the free verse style, but I feel like the rhythm is kind of blocky in the third stanza. Overall, I love the theme and the imagers, especially your rope metaphor! I hope you keep writing!

Poetry and prayer are very similar.
