Anger

PreviousNext

I was just wondering why, people feel angry. I know it's a simple and slightly stupid question, but i was just wondering why do people feel the need to be angry. I'm pretty sure we've all let anger control us in a physical way and verbal. What really stimulates the process of being angry or what starts rage? I know alot of people have rage because of certain situations because of how their lives are. But why not suppress for the better outcome, because i have been in too many situations where anger gets the best of people and further complicates things. This is just a thought, now turned into a question for discussion. Why do you think people get angry? What stimulates their aggression? and do you think anger would ever really make anything a good outcome? (besides movies)

Thank you and God bless :)

Hey Imaginator! Black back for your second review! :D

Okay, this time my suggestion that you place this piece in a thread is going to be slightly different. As you may notice your theme here is much more broad and general. It's not asking a specific question about a specific thing . . . its asking for opinions and facts. This is something that can really be discussed, not just replied to. Thus I advise you to make a thread in the SD&D forum for it. That, I think, would do quite well for you!

Actually, looking south it appears Audy already got you on this, so never mind. My point is re-made I guess.

Anyway. For my reply. Rage and anger are cause by specific things. There is a chemical process that causes rage and anger, which can be found fairly easily, but of which I have virtually no knowledge at all. It's a very complex process I'm sure, as are all of your body functions. If that's what you want to know then you can look it up on Wikipedia or something like that!

From what I know you usually get angry when something incites your temper. If someone does something you don't like, then you tend to get angry at them. If someone hurts you you can get angry at them. Obviously different people get angry over different things, depending on their character and levels of self-control.

Many different things stimulate aggression. And these things usually vary from person to person. A lot. A bit of harsh criticism on one persons writing might not get them angry at all (it might even make them happy), whereas on another person . . . The results are unpredictable.

Do I think anger can have a good outcome? Well yes. Anger can bring on justice, though that anger must be controlled. Anger can solve problems (but again it must be controlled). It can give you purpose. It can get things moving. But usually anger's effects are negative. Usually people only get hurt or angered themselves . . .

Anyway, that's enough for now (I have hardly any time for a good review)! Bye! Good luck here! And remember, KEEP WRITING! YOU WILL IMPROVE!

That's an interesting question... Myself, with things like this, I tend to go and look at how something would have developed on an evolutionary path, why would we have needed this?
Humans are rather territorial, even now in our more advanced stage, we all have "our room" "our backyard" "our house" and many many things that are "ours". So because of that I look at other rather territorial creatures. A lot of territorial animals have a hard time coping out of their territory; so they want to keep others from taking them away from their home, and that causes them to become snippy at other things that come near them. So if there was a species that was constantly being threatened by itself, then things would get weird.
Humans want to keep "their space" theirs, but the only thing that threatens it is other humans. So with something as weird as that happening, you'd have to suspect that the result would be something as weird and destructive as anger. It just so happens that anger is now rotted so deeply into us that we tend to get angry easily.

(I don't really know much about this type of thing, so everything I just said is simply my speculations. There is a vary good chance everything I just said is completely wrong, sense I don't have anything to back it up.)

Nator,

I think for an open discussion question like this it'd be better to post a topic in the serious discussion and debate thread or even post a topic in the lounge, and that way, you'll have more people see this and be willing to respond and such. The literary works area is more for people to comment on your writing and give feedback about your writing. I hope that makes sense/ clears things up. I know that this site can be confusing/overwhelming at first xD

But, I do want to take a stab at your question, because I think it is an interesting one. You seem like a pretty cool-headed and calm individual, and if that's the case, then I can definitely see how anger can puzzle you. Anger is an emotional like any other though - so sadness, joy, jealousy, etc., and it's got a wide range of intensity, you can be mildly annoyed/angered or you can be red in the face, ready to fight someone. I think it's important to note that when you feel angry, you can tangibly feel it! Whenever I get *really* angry, I can feel my heartbeat rising - and some people actually feel adrenaline kicing in.

You can't really *control* when you feel emotions or you can't control how you feel about something, because I think these responses have more to do with how you perceive the world. For example, if you're at a movie theatre and you're trying to get tickets for an opening show and the guy from in front of you all of a sudden has a group of his friends cut you in line, you may or may not feel anger in this sort of situation. You can see it as an unfairness done to you, for you waited so long in this line and technically it's against the rules to cut, and you may not get good seats now, or what if the tickets are sold out? You may feel like people are walking all over you and then you may get angry. Or, you can see it from a rational or nonpersonal perspective - these people have nothing against you, one guy just so happened to get there before his friends, and it wouldn't be fair if he got tickets, and his friends are left without tickets and would have to go /all/ the way to the back, I mean, these things happen all the time, it's not that big of a deal, etc. So, yeah. Anger is going to depend on your perspective.

My experience with anger is that you usually feel it when you may not agree or accept something, when you feel something is unfair or undeserved, such as when you feel an injustice occur to you or someone you love, you may feel frustrated or helpless in those situations and that can prompt anger.

There are many different circumstances and reasons as to why we feel anger, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Anger can promote someone to act or defend themselves for example, and so long as they can manage their behaviors, then it can be the best way to vent up emotions, rather than keep things bottled up.

Anyway, thanks for the thought provoking question! Feel free to post this up in the Forums so more people can discuss their thoughts!

~ as always, Audy

My major is Communication. My minor is Psychology and Human Development. Let me help.

People get angry for numerous reasons. Anger is an internal reaction that we perceive to have an external cause. When people get angry, they will never tell you it was for no reason. There is always something that the person perceived as "not right" that triggered their anger.

Anger in itself is not unhealthy, its part of our physical makeup and a primitive defense mechanism. People get angry when they feel that they are being threatened. It could be a perceived threat to themselves, their ego, or someone they love or sympathize with. It's when anger is uncontrolled that it becomes a negative force with negative consequences.

When People get angry it can come from two types of sources, internal and external. Regardless of which of the two sources, sometimes both, that triggers a persons anger, the actual emotion itself tends to have its roots anchored somewhere in the persons psyche. A man who was brought up in an abusive home may become angry as soon as they hear somebody get verbally loud. A person frustrated over money may get angry when a friend asks for a cigarette. Someone who feels that they are being generalized may get angry with someone who they feel perceives them in this fashion.

People get angry more often as their frustration tolerance lowers. This low tolerance level can be caused by a number of reasons, stress and/or anxiety, physical and/or emotional pain, drugs and alcohol, or simply having a bad day. All of these can lead to a lower frustration tolerance, and when people get angry it can result in unnecessary outbreaks. When anger is out of control it is similar to a person under the influence of drugs. The person's ability to rationalize is compromised and they act purely from emotion.

People get angry and they have every right to do so. Everybody has their own views of the world, and their own expectations of how things are supposed to be. There's nothing wrong when people get angry because things don't go as they feel it should have, but when people get angry they need to learn to control their emotions. When someone is in violation of another persons perception of correct reality, doesn't always give the offended person justifiable grounds to act out their anger. Everybody has their own view of the way things are supposed to be, so a person who offends another may have done so without knowing.

When people get angry, the best thing they can do is stop and acknowledge their anger before they react. When someone reacts to anger there are only two options, attack or defend, and in most cases neither of these options will lead to positive results. Unless somebody is defending themselves or another person from physical harm, there is usually a better option than lashing out in anger.

mmmmmmm good question, i guess it's just a feeling that we feel like happiness and sadness it's true that anger makes life complecated but it also make it intresting, imagine your life without any anger or happiness, when god creat us he put in each one of us emotions and different feelings, those feelings make us see the life intresting and not borring even anger.... so i think it's just the way of life.......
