Motivation

Okay, I know I'm ultra-super-duper late on this, but I thought I'd drop by for a review (got picked for the santa thingy and all).

So first off, FireHeart is right. Generally things such as this here should go in the Lounge, or, should you want to make it a bit more serious and broad, it could go in the Serious Discussion and Debate Forum. You'd be sure to get a lot more discussion in both places. Real discussion. As in, have it DISCUSSED. Not just replied to.

Seeing as this is more of a thread starter I don't think I'll be going into a real nit-picking reviewer, but I think I might suggest to you that you try to be a bit more broad on what you want . . . and simple. A good organization style would be to ask your question in simple words, then give your personal example of what you mean. It would work quite nicely I do believe.

So for me . . . the answer to your question. I get my inspiration for different things from different sources. If I'm reviewing then I might get my inspiration from a want for a reputation as a good reviewer. Or a want for my next star. Or just a want to help somebody, or provide feedback. If I'm writing my own fiction or poetry then I usually get my inspiration from my imagination.

Yeah, usually I'm just walking around or something one day, get an idea and go write it down. And then I write it down again. Then I refine the idea, re-refine it, and then write it down all over again. Then a few more times. And then I throw it away and move to the next idea. It works for me! Quite nicely.

Inspiration is a variable for me. No one general thing will inspire me. ANYTHING CAN INSPIRE YOU! It just depends on how it inspires you and when. A random guy on the street may inspire you one day, and not the next.

Anyway, there's not a lot to say here. Feel free to keep up on my suggestion! (Oh, and you gotta remember: If you ever want to improve then you have to WRITE! Just sit down and write -you WILL improve!)

Starleene already gave you a nice review for this, so I'll just brush over the main points that jumped out at me. 'I' is *always* capitalized. I is what you call yourself, it's your self-given name and should be capitalized just as Bob should (if that were your name). The same with I'm, I'll, I've etc. Always capitalized.

With that out of the way, I'll answer your questions:

What motivates me? How did I become interested in writing?

I am motivated by a desire to help people. I've always loved the feeling I get from helping people, and try to do it as often as possible. That's what motivates me to write reviews. I like knowing that someone's writing improved because I took the time to help them. I know that I've gotten loads of help from others, and I really appreciate that.

I started writing when I was little. I was very distraught at the state of the wild population of tigers, and my mom encouraged me to write about it. You know how moms are: "You're going to change the world one day" and all that. When I got a little older I got tired of writing stories and letters about tigers, and stopped writing.

But I've always told myself anecdotes. "Wouldn't it be cool if...." "What would I do if..." "I wonder if this thing could ever happen..." and my mind would wander. When I was about 13, and got my own computer, I began writing down these little mind teasers. I didn't expect anyone else to ever read them-- leave that to the writers. I just wanted to be sure I remembered the stories that I delighted it.

I didn't do that for every long before I felt a bit foolish for doing so, and I stopped writing once more. Then, when I was 15, my English assignment was to write a descriptive short story. The lady who wrote the books gave wonderful prompts, and I got an idea for a sword fight. Something happened that day when I was writing it. I went from writing my thoughts to amuse myself, to writing a story for others to read.

I realized that I liked that idea. I had the imagination for great stories, and, it seemed, had a slight aptitude for it, as my entire family enjoyed my sword fight. It was wonderful. It also made me realize that I can help people with my writing.

I've been through rough waters, and have appreciated Tolkien, and Paolini, and Lewis, and Hemingway, and their stories. The way they whisk me off to faraway places, making forget all the hurts and struggles of my real life. Once I realized that I had the capacities to craft stories, the thought of being able to make even one person's life just a little better, even for a short while, drove me to develop my skill.

That's why I write.

I know you’re not looking for a review but when I read through this I was like “I need to review this.” I went all zombie-eats-brains on it. So I’ll do a quick review and then respond!

I have an abhorrent fear of parenthesis, I swear one of these days they’re going to take over and we’ll see them everywhere! Any who, don’t forget to capitalize your (I)s, you missed a couple throughout here. Also, I think there needs to be a question mark after “as,” you did ask a question after all.

There really is no need for a question mark, a question wasn’t asked.

“I read alot of books and it was until i was around…”

I got confused when someone said this to me, but “alot” is spelled as two words: a lot.

“So overall i want to know what inspires and motivates you to... well you know, write?””

So overall (comma), etc. etc. etc.


What motivates me to write? I want to create a world where people can go and experience the world not just read it. I want the world I create to be just a real and possible as the world they live in. I’ve read thousands of books, both big and small, useful and not. I’ve found worlds you could only dream about. Some of the best authors out there have created worlds that are beyond our imagination and it inspires me! C.S Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, Christopher Paolini, J.K Rowling! All amazing authors and all have something to show. They are my inspiration.
