Soc. or Greaser

Why can’t we all be peacers?

Greasers or Soc.

Divided by the small things they get engrossed

East or West

Where I come from West is best

Everyone has to work to make a living

But those on the West don’t even think of giving

What’s the difference between us all?

But greasers have to run when the fuzz are called

Madras and leather jackets

Both of us make a racket

But when the police show

To the cooler, the greasers go

Never the Socialites

Makes us have a bit of a gripe

Money was the thing that made us

No way, that theory had to bust

What else could it be

Nothing else I could see

Those two girls were nice and friendly

But nothing can have a happy ending

The last thing I remember hearing from that lover

“Things are rough all over,”

She said emotion was the divider

Maybe it was true or maybe she’s a liar

Darry and Paul

Their argument not solved

One Greaser one Soc.

The greaser would boast

Held back by his brothers

Ashamed of his status and having to replace his mother

Remembering that talk with Randy

Not sugar-coated like candy

Man-to-man conversation

No different interpretation

Nothing is going to change

Nothing anyone could arrange

Just social norm

Everyone must conform

Just one person couldn’t change this unwritten rule

And some would agree it’s cruel

It’s just the way of things

Maybe a lightbulb on people’s head will go ding

People should be treated the same

No different game

Just equal treatment

It would have to be subsequent

One day

Everyone could have an equal say

Until then it’s Soc. and Grease

That will never cease

Grease and Soc.

The split I hate most

Hey another poem from Fire Eyes nice. I think my favorite lines from this are definitely "Just social norm, Everyone must conform" that was really good I think. I remember reading this book back in middle school and it really impacted me and I can tell it impacted you as well. A little thing I'd add to this is clarifying who's perspective this poem is coming from in the gang somehow. It seems like this is coming from a character in the book so setting a time and who that is could help the reader perceive this a tad better. But still good work once again friend.

Anywayz, that's about all I noticed for the second time around reading this. ONTO THE GLOWS.

I mean for one, this is about The Outsiders so how could I not love this. Okay, first of all, your way with words is just... *chef's kiss*. I cannot understand how you describe things so well and so elegantly... Like right here where you say

No way, that theory had to bust

What else could it be

Nothing else I could see
it perfectly describes the split between the Greasers and the Socs. And your ending stanza really does end the poem perfectly XD
