Nightmare

I have tried to create a short 'choose your own adventure' story on YWS! This was extremely hard so please excuse the fact that it's so terrible. Try to enjoy it? Oh, and don't read any parts that you haven't been instructed to read.

So this story is really weird, short and in no way is it meant to be serious. I just wanted to give this a go. You can try to fill in the blanks and figure out what the heck is happening with your own imagination. :P

Start

You wake up in a bed but it's not your bed. You have no idea where you are, the building is completely unfamiliar to you. Suddenly, you hear footsteps coming towards the closed bedroom door. You have no idea what to do. There is a baseball bat beside the bed, you could grab it (1) or you could wait and see who opens the door (2).

One

You lean down and quickly grip onto the baseball bat. You have just seconds to stand up on top of the bed before the door knob turns and the person enters. It's an old lady holding a tea tray, she screams in fright. "Don't hurt me!" she screams. You have two choices; be kind or be strong. You could kindly sit back down and apologise (3) or you could demand to know where you are (4).

Two

You stay sitting in bed, staring at the door. In a second it has opened and a kind looking lady walks in, holding a tea tray. She places the tray on the end of your bed and begins pouring you a drink. "You've been sick," she says, "but there's no need to worry yourself. Just drink this and everything will be fine." You can drink the tea (5) or demand to know where you are (4).

Three

You drop the baseball bat onto the ground and sit back down. "I'm sorry," you plead. "I got scared." The old lady grins and places a hand to her heart. "You had me scared, then." She begins pouring you some tea and hands you the cup. You don't know whether to trust her or not. You can drink the tea (5) or kindly decline (6).

Four

You climb off the bed and stand face to face with the old lady. "Where am I?!" you shout in her face. Her expression suddenly turns grim, her mouth twists into a smirk and fangs grow beneath her lips. Her fingers turn into claws and her legs grow, her figure towering over you. "I guess I'll just have to dispose of you," she laughs. You know you're not getting out of this. It's over in a second. Go to the end.

Five

You raise the cup to your lips and sip on the tea; it's warm and the taste is comforting. You feel at home in this place. Then suddenly your throat feels gravelly, then it feels like there are rocks being poured down it. You struggly to breathe and after a minute you no longer can. You know this is it. Go to the end.

Six

"No thankyou." You push the cup of tea away from you. The old lady looks sad for a second, but then her expression suddenly turns grim. Her mouth twists into a smirk and fangs grow beneath her lips. Her fingers turn into claws and her legs grow, her figure towering over you. "I guess I'll just have to dispose of you," she laughs. You know you're not getting out of this. It's over in a second. Go to the end.

End

You wake up in your own bed in your own house. Your heart is beating so fast that it's jumping out of your chest. Sweat drips off the end of your nose. You look around at your room, the familiar sounds comforting you. You squint to see the clock in the darkness; it's midnight. You were just dreaming. Suddenly, you hear footsteps coming towards the closed bedroom door.

Aha.

This was pretty cool. The story was, despite your description, pretty interesting, though some more length towards the end couldn't have gone astray. Brings back memories, anyhow. Well done!

Guess I made all the wrong choices. >.>
This is a very interesting idea! I really like it. Would you mind if I tried one of my own?

Those were the only nitpicks I found. Otherwise, it was extremely entertaining, amazing work! ( :-) )

Haha hey this was pretty cool :) I'm not a big fan of scary stories but I liked this one and how you get to choose which way the story goes. I would also love if you made a longer one with even more excitement! Thank you for the entertainment! Good luck!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hah, I loved these as a kid!

Awesome.

Nice idea, making a 'choose-your-own-path' story like this! Took me back to those times when I used to scare myself silly reading those 'give yourself goosebumps' books.
Decent story, moral learnt-DON'T confront scared old ladies! :)
It'll be great if you can write another one. Only this time longer and more complex. I'll be sure to read it!!

And the ending was unexpected. Usually with stories like this we end with the main character thinking it was just a dream, only to be rudely proven otherwise.

Eg: ....;its midnight. You were just dreaming. But suddenly, you hear footsteps outside your door...

Anyway, god job and keep it up!!

That's a good idea, do you mind if I change the ending to what you said?

Oh man! Well, that ending wasn't what I had expected. I thought maybe that whatever you do, you might die. Entertaining read, nonetheless.
