E - Everyone

In Basement Secrets

I come for all.

No one has ever escaped me.

People may consider me evil.

Always pleding to me for mercy,

To take it a bit easy

On the hearts of their loved ones.

People call me cruel,

And maybe I am.

But whatever, I'm the ultimate truth.

Everyone will face me one day or the other.

Death comes to all.

.

.

School may have taught me the difference between there and their and they're. It may have taught me how to count and calculate and how to state the difference between climate and weather. But it never taught me to react when you find your best friend dead in the school basement. It never told me how much it would hurt to see your best friend crumpled and broken. It never told me how much pain death gives you. It never taught me. It never did.

And now I'm stuck in this situation without any knowledge about how to handle myself, let alone anyone else.

I don’t know what to do. I'm completely lost.

I had no idea I was crying until Jay came over and wiped his thumps below my eyes capturing the traitor mixture of NaCl and H2O that escaped my eyes.

Kat stop crying. You couldn’t cry. You never cry. You are a strong girl.

Tears stop! I commanded my brain, but it seemed like my brain was not listening to me anymore, and the steady stream of salty tears continued to flow down my face.

Jay took me into his arms as I was having a war with myself and started whispering words of reassurance into my ears.

"It's all going to be okay" I heard him say.

He is lying, I thought. It's never going to be okay.

The world is going to turn.

Okay.

The wind is going to blow.

Okay.

The sun is going to shine.

Okay.

But Jess, she is not going to be alive anymore. Tomorrow we may pretend like nothing happened. Life is all about pretending like nothing happened. But that doesn’t change the fact the only Jessica Elizabeth Stanley in this wide world , whom I knew, the one with greyish-blue eyes and auburn hair, the one who knew all about who is taking who to the prom is dead.

Gone.

Forever.

I know you are lying, I think.

"Yeah" is what I say as I burry my face further into his chest.

"Katherine Swan?" I hear my name being called by a voice I didn’t recognize.

"Ye-yeah ...?" I say. My voice muffled. My face still buried in Jay's chest.

"You have got to come to the station with me." I hear the mysterious voice say again.

"Officer, please, I don’t think Kat is in a state when she can answer your questions. For gods sake! She just found her best friend dead in the school basement!"

I could feel Jay's chest vibrate as he tried to defend me his voice getting angrier with every word.

"But its her who found Jessica's dead body. And we need to interrogate her. It's just how things are. Trust me I'm sorry for your loss, but this is just how the law is."  The mystery cop said. His voice soft now.

You can do this. I say to myself. You are not the girl who hides in her friend's chest just because she is too scared to face the reality. I'm a big girl. I handle my situations my self.

"Officer yo-"

" It's okay Jay. I'll go." I say cutting off whatever he was going to say.

"But Kat-"

"No Jay I'm fine. I can do this." I say more to assure myself than to him.

He hugs me once again and says he will come with me and that there is no need to argue as he will follow me anyway.

I look at him and find nothing more than pure concern and something else I can't recognize in his eyes.

I nod and together we follow the cop to his cruiser.

While walking towards the car I look for Al and find him talking in a hushed voice with Rene. Rene looks like she had been crying too, and by the looks of it, Al my not so caring boyfriend had been comforting her.

Well I at least have Jay. I think as I walk closer to him than before and grab his hand.

This is going to be a long day, is the last thing I think before falling asleep, my head on Jay's shoulder and his arms around me.

Wow! I really like this story, and I really hope you make more chapters to this! This is the kind of book that I would like someone to publish and make into a real novel! I would totally read this if you did! At first, I thought this was a fan story about Hello Neighbor since in the game you investigate a basement with tons of secrets and he is supposedly a murderer... But then, when I read it, I found out how good this really is! Thank you!

This is Kaos here for a review!

So you have a sub-par poem at the start of this chapter and I don't really know why it's there? It doesn't really add anything to the story and I found it generic. I think if you shortened and condensed it into something that had more power inside those few lines rather than stretched out throughout the thing. I also suggest putting a divide between it and the actual chapter because it looks a little weird without one.

Onto the actual chapter, I didn't really find it to be anything special. There's dumps of info in paragraphs throughout it, and there isn't really any long paragraphs other than those but they drag on and on. The dialogue didn't really do anything for me to make it feel real. I suggest using more body language and cutting off on some of the dialogue tags that aren't really needed. Things that should go after dialogue lines are things like body language, because that's a big part of communication as well often run over, the characters thoughts, and occasionally dialogue tags.

The rambling of the main character fills up the empty spaces and is the filler of the chapter, this brings me to my next point. I suggest using a grammar checker and then proof-reading the chapter with human eyes. Something that was missing throughout the whole chapter is description and imagery. This is crucial to creating the atmosphere and tone, crucial to making things more vivid so I suggest you try and put more of an emphasis on that.

I hope I helped and have a great day!
