"I thought what I'd do was I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes." - Catcher in the Rye
Auggie stood in front of me, his small wings splayed out behind him. His face showed clear worry while tail flickered back and forth behind him. He traced the room, back and forth.
“No. We can’t tell her. Not yet.” he told me while shuffling my tarot cards.
“I can. We can’t,” I replied while snagging back my cards. The back of the cards faced me but I did not pick it back up. Somethings were best left unknown.
Auggie brought back up the memory of the last Abis and Holy Keepers, Herb and Wink. He forced it into my head. They died in front of us. While laughing. They still had that twinkle in their eyes while their corpses laid still upon the ground.
I pushed back, shaking my head. It would not be like that this time, like every other time. These two wouldn’t die. They would be more. They have to be, otherwise this world will succumb to defeat unlike any other.
I looked back up at Auggie, my posture and eyes showing complete panic. But then I composed it.
Tilting his head, Auggie asked me something that I was not expecting. “You had a vision, didn’t you? That's why you were roaming the halls the other night. After…” He trailed off, not wanting to say to much and destroy his train of thought.
My head between my knees now, I ran my hands through my hair in nervousness.
All I did in response was nod my head.
“It's why you are so sure, isn’t it?”
I nodded my head again.
Auggie scoffed, his hands doing the same thing I do when I am anxious. He was weaving his fingers in and out, in and out. He shook his head, sighing heavily.
“Please, consider what could ensue, not just with her but with the other Keepers. Quintus will especially not be happy.”
“Stop being a worry wart. And yes, the other Keepers will be a problem but they will live. A simple chink in their plans will not change a thing.”
“But it could change your's. Well-”
“Shhhhh!” I quickly hushed him, footsteps outside the door.
They passed, the gentle clopping of high-heels fading.
Auggie looked at me again, his eyes wary.
“You do this and things will change. But if you don’t… you know what will happen, don’t you? They will die, Claric and Nayleth. They will die the moment things are finally getting better, won’t they?”
I looked out the window that showed the Red Woven forest. The red underneaths were visible to me, the tops a purple that was new to Nayleth.
They all sat underneath the biggest tree, the one that sat in the middle of the grounds. Nayleth was on one of the lowest branches, her form kept hidden. Griffin was underneath her, lounging in a patch of sun. Sully was working on his book, glancing up at Nayleth here and there. J was strumming her guitar, the sound sweet to my ears. They looked so peaceful, so oblivious to what I knew.
“Either way, one of them will die. Jasman, Sulmane, Claric… Nayleth. Now please, I need my nap.”
Auggie looked at me, sighing heavily. He would lose his niece, one of the few remaining members of his family.
“Nayleth has classes with Griffin tomorrow. You know who will appear and he will not leave.”
I smiled this time.
“Grim and Nayleth will get along just fine, don’t worry. Now, let me sleep.” I hissed at him and tromped toward my room, smoke curling from my nostrils.
Hearing Auggie behind me, I look back. He was mumbling to himself about tomorrow's plans, pacing the room.
I hung my head in silent laughter and closed my bedroom door behind me.

Hi, I'm Joe.
I'm a new reader so I don't know anything about the setting, plot, or characters. From what little description you teased me with, I imagine Auggie to be some kind of black angel/crow-like person with long trailing feathers. I have to think he's mostly human though.
I used to be a major fan of fantasy so I settled right in/ Tarot cards? Count me in.
That being said, and probably because I'm a new reader, I felt a little lost. I don't know what Keepers are, or about the main character's vision from the previous chapter. I assume she's a seer or something similar, given her visions and the tarot deck.
I get the distinct sense that I stepped into the story right in the middle of an intense fork in the road. A major decision is coming up. Talk of people dying gives this work a heavy, dreary tone full of tension.
Your dialogue is fantastic. You have a great conversational flow that reads naturally, without hiccups. I wish I knew more about what was being discussed so I could follow along a bit better, but that'll just have to be motivation for me to go back and read more of the work.
Overall I think you did a good job here. I'll try to go take a look at previous chapters so I can supply you with more constructive input.
Keep writing.
Joe
Thank you! Please, go back and read the rest of the chapters, everything will make more sense. You got a few things wrong, but Auggie is something like part crow. More so part dragon! And yes, tarot cards do play a big part.
Hi, Flumadiddle! Pan back to review. Same drill as usual: nitpicks, overall thoughts, suggested grammar/expression changes in blue.
Nitpicks
Maybe rephrase the second sentence to get rid of 'back and forth' - it feels repetitive.
aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. This should be a comma, dear Flumadiddle, not a full stop. For the sake of my sanity, please check your dialogue for these types of errors.
This, for example, is perfectly punctuated. You can do it. It's just keeping it consistent.
I'm also a little bit confused by this line. Do you mean Auggie is talking about it and we just don't get the dialogue, or do you mean he's literally forcing the memory into Mark's head by some telepathic means?
You only used 'laid' when you're talking about someone laying an object down, as in 'he laid the tray down on the table'. When you're talking about something lying horizontal, you use 'lay', as in 'he lay on the grass and gazed at the moon'.
This piece of description has a very third-person vibe. How would Mark know his eyes were showing panic? A person can't see their own eyes. I'd comment more on the internal feelings of panic - for example, his stomach twisting or his heart beating in his throat. That will root us better in his perspective.
Remember that pronouns such as 'his', 'hers', 'its' and 'yours' never have apostrophes.
Considering he's saying 'shhhhh', there's no reason to say that he 'hushed' him; it's obvious from the dialogue. Maybe substitute it for 'I hissed' or 'I whispered'.
Overall Thoughts
1) I'm kind of in two minds about this chapter, so I'll start with the positive side. I feel like you handle this conversation well. It doesn't feel too deliberately expository or engineered to answer the reader's questions, but it's not so confusing that I can't get a sense of what they're talking about. While not perfect, it's definitely some of the best dialogue I've seen from you so far. I get some flavour of Mark's personality from it, though I think you could push that even further. For the most part, I still don't think your characters' voices are distinct enough.
2) I also like that we're getting some sense of drama, what with the revelation that Claric and Nayleth may be fated to sacrifice their lives for a greater cause. I feel like I'm getting a better sense of where the plot is headed now, but there's enough mystery for me to be unsure of how it's going to pan out.
3) On the other hand, I'm still finding this story pretty difficult to follow. I think it's moving much too quickly. You need to spend more time having Nat and Claric settle into their new environment before you start dropping massive twists about how they're doomed to die. At this point in the story, I basically know nothing about this world or its culture, and I don't really care about J or Sully because I've barely seen anything of their characters. If you spent more time showing Nat and Claric adjusting to their new life and discovering things about magic and the Celestials and the Holy Keepers, the revelation that they themselves are the Keepers will have much more impact. At the minute, I can't really feel any sense of drama or shock from this discovery because I have no idea what any of it means.
4) This chapter could probably do with a bit more description, as it's a bit sparse and dialogue-heavy at the minute. I'd like to know what the room they're in actually looks like. I didn't even realise it was daytime until halfway through the chapter; I was picturing the conversation as happening at night, probably due to where the last chapter broke off.
5) Which brings me to another point. This chapter doesn't lead on from the previous one very well. Chapter eight ends with Mark talking to Nat and Griffin about being the Holy Keepers, yet this one shifts straight to Mark's quarters (or room? Office? Where are they?), where he's having a different conversation with a completely different character. It makes me wonder what the heck actually happened after the end of chapter eight. Maybe consider revising the end of said chapter so it concludes in a more rounded-off sort of way.
6) I quite like Mark, even though I do want his personality to come across more strongly. He seems like an oddball. Like he's having this monumental conversation about the future of his world but he's just like 'yeah, can we hurry this up? I want to go to bed'. I don't know if it's intentionally funny on your part, but I quite liked it. Continue developing Mark's character. The same goes for the rest of the cast - let me see their quirks.
That's all for today. Quite a well-constructed chapter overall, but it needs more description and doesn't lead off well from the previous chapter. The rapid pacing and the confusing nature of the plot are my biggest concerns for the story so far, but your writing style and punctuation do seem to be improving. I only noticed two dialogue punctuation errors, which is promising. See if you can vanquish them entirely - that will make my whole week.
Keep writing!

Okay! I need to go over chap. 10. And Mark... oooooh, I can't wait. I have something stored away about him. Glad you like him! I was hoping he would come off as an oddball. Personally, he's my favorite.
Also, this chapter takes part after muluth and Jesse, as well as after mark talked to them about there forms and just after he went to sleep.
I see so much foreshadowing!..........well I mean it helps that I know what's going to happen *evil laughter*
NO DON'T DO IT and things will change. My plans for the story.
Don't do what??? And of I know things will change obviously nothing is set in stone yet
