"Jester"
My head is spinning. Spin, spin, spin, spin..
Oh? Hello there! And who could you be?
I'm not a nobody! Jester is my name!
I'm here to make you happy. How about a game?
Loud and clear, I'll dance and sing!
What did you say? You want to leave?
Ow poor me! My heart is bleeding!
You want to leave me? You're really leaving?
I knew you'd stay! I'm just so charming!
Let's soar up high! What do you say, darling?
I'll put on a great performance. The show must go on!
I know you were waiting for this moment. There's no fun in being alone!
I'll say a joke or two. I'll fall and I'll make you laugh.
I'll make myself look pathetic. And all of this for what?
I can't make up my mind. Is it all too much?
But I must try and try. Watch, please just watch!
Look at me now! I'm up in the sky!
I look like a cloud! But I'll fall and break my pride.
All of this for what? To make you laugh?
And who is that? Hello new person!
You expected what? I'm just a Jester, did I mention?
I'll dance and sing. I'll make you laugh.
‘Is that all’ you ask? What do you mean?! You're such a brat!
I'm pulling my heart for you! I'm falling apart to make you laugh! That's not enough for you… Alright! Just watch!
Look, now I'm breaking my bones! All of this for you. Are you entertained by my woes? Just tell me the truth.
Still not enough? You’re a tough one, I gotta say…
How about I pierce my skin? Would that make your day?
Now I'm bleeding, just for you.
And you still left without a word or two…
New person? Hi. The Jester is me.
I'll make you happy, give you what you need.
What do you mean? You just want a hug?
Ask for something else! I'm more than just that!
I can bleed, I can cry.
I can punch myself until I die.
You don't want any of that?
What?
How am I? Am I fine?
Why do you ask… It's been a while.
Since I've heard those words.
So gentle yet painful. So loving yet hating.
It just reminds me how much I'm aching.
Get out! I don't want you here!
You're not worth my time! I don't care how you feel!
Why do you care? That's not what I'm for.
Just ask me to fool around. To check how much I'm worth.
I'm done with you now. Never come back.
Hello new person! I am the Jester!

Oh. My. Days. I have no words. I loved this, so, so much. As a people pleaser myself, I can't tell you how much each line twisted that damn knife. I know from more or less experience that feelings like this one are hard to express, and sometimes come out wrong. But this? This hit. I love how the Jester's persona never shifts, even when they're conflicted, you can tell the years worth of pain and self humilation dawning all at once. Their behaviour is automatic, an instinct, maybe the only thing they knew. This is all conveyed without stressing on it too much, which makes the poem have this airy, heart-piercing, or no, heart-poking feel. I saw the description and assumed a world of things, but this hurt a lot differently than I thought it would.
The fear of the Jester is also interesting. They're not used to being cared for, not used to being seen, not used to people looking past that front theyve so carefully put up. They want to be cared for, loved with genuinity and not plasticity. But they cant help but be afraid. Who wouldn't? After years of the same routine. I know how that feels, and it means the world that its been expressed like this.
Couldn't help but re-read while I write this, haha. The rhythm is just incredible too. Each line fits into the last and flows so well. There aren't any awkward gaps or pauses, atleast from my pov.
The poem conveys just how used to following along to everyone's whims the Jester really is. The lengths they're willing to go to, lines of self conservation they're willing to blur until it disappears completely. Its painful how they're so ready to do just about anything, as long as the person stays, as long as they're happy, as long. as. they. stay. Sorry, got a little carried away.
Overall, This is beautiful. You've represented something thats hard to put into words for a lot of people. Please keep in mind this review is from my interpretation, so please feel free to correct me if I overstepped on anything, or misinterpreted anything. Keep up the good work, and remember you have so much more purpose than to just please the world <3
Omg that's like- the most emotional review I ever got sjxnjss. You understood it perfectly. I'm so happy that you think I described it just as it is. This really means alot. I can't put it into words but I'm just so happy that my poems are relatable to some people. I just love when it hits where it hurts the most cause it means I can show people that they are not alone. You're also not alone. Amd thank you so much for those kind words at the end of your review! This made my day!
Of course !! <3 you're very talented !!
Thank youuu!
Hi! It's CATS here! I hope you don't mind if I leave a shorter review than normal this time, in bigger quotes
; I'm tired from reviewing like crazy these past few days. I'm excited to read your "Jester" poem, Bluuru! How about we get started?
Wow. I feel like you've improved your poems SO MUCH over such a short period of time! I mean, LOOK AT YOU!!! You literally killed poetry! One thing I noticed is that this poem is full of energy, and has an eternal flow of words, moving the poem along in a fast but great way. For the first stanza, I feel like maybe removing one of the 'spins' is good for rhythmic flow, but you are great at this and probably don't need my advice anymore
WHY IS IT SO SMOOTH! You improved so much. I also feel like for this line,
'Let's soar up high! What do you say, darling?'
Maybe slur what do to what'd you say? A small detail!
I think the first two lines don't really 'fit', but I have no ideas...you're doing very well.
Maybe for the third stanza, remove 'please'? It can be smoother, I'd say. BUT you TOTALLY can ignore it. It's already FANTASTIC AND I MEAN IT.
Omg, the other parts are perfectly amazing. Let's check out the rest!
This part is relatable. The narrator seems so desperate to be loved, for someone's attention, that they are changing themselves into someone they don't even know, yet, people still don't care. That's so sad and touching. Great. This part is perfection, at least in my opinion. I'm new to poetry myself lol...but have been reviewing them for quite a while!
Wow. The new person certainly is caring about the Jester, who is causing SH to himself...my favorite part in this!
Wow. The Jester certainly is cold and wants no mercy. Treated badly. And still somehow manages to act cheerful! That's crazy, but in a good way
OVERALL: In all, I think you certainly have IMPROVED A LOT, take my word for it!!! I can imagine the Jester at a circus entertainment for some reason, your poems certainly paint a mural!
Again, I'm so sorry and apologize for a shorter and brief review than usual...
Happy RevMo, Happy Poetry, Happy Reading, and Happy Writing!
(Phew, that is such a mouthful.)
Love,
Your New Fan,
CATS
Omg HELLO! Don't worry about 'shorter' review, it was still very long! And all I care about is that people read and feel. So no worries, really! Thank you for your advices and for saying all those sweet stuff! You really made my day by calling yourself my new fan haha! Thank you so much. I'm hoping to hear more from you when I post in the future! Take care!
no worries!!

it becomes really real without taking the reader out of the poem. It shifts the tone while also breaking the pattern of the rest of the poem. Then it jumps back to the rhyming couplets as the jester battles their mind and thoughts. I really love how that segment reveals so much about the struggles of the jester, but gets covered again by the jester's deniability of their struggles and needs. You could even distort the structure of this section of the poem even more to visually display the jester battling with these thoughts and emotions.Hi Bluuru! I saw you post this poem and had to jump to review it! Also, happy Review Month!
This poem is so playful and lyrical, the lines just roll off the tongue and the rhythm of the poem keeps a steady tempo all the way through. The rhyme also didn't feel forced in any area which only made the tempo feel more authentic.
But what I really want to talk about is the content and meaning of the poem. First, I want to say that I really like the jester's pov being in italics while the "people" are in regular texts. It feels as though the audience is really in the jester's mind and can hear their thoughts/words quite clearly. I really enjoyed this poem- it feels playful at first as we follow the thoughts of a jester meeting people, but then it slowly unravels and shows that the jester lives to please people, even if it comes at their own expense. I find this to be a super interesting and creative way to tackle this subject and using a jester. Sometimes, we relate ourselves to being puppets, or other "showcase" items in poems when trying to convey the act of "people pleasing" yet I love how you took this concept and really brought it to life through the character and dialogue of the jester.
It's a heartbreaking message told through the lens and act of something lighthearted. Once we get to the lines:
Overall, I really enjoyed this poem and I loved the creativity you put forth in it! Keep writing and thank you for posting this work. Hope to read more from you soon! God bless.
