"To my mother"

Please, why won't you hug me and tell me it'll be alright?

Why do you still call me a useless, lazy child?

Why can't you notice my pain and suffering?

Why do you keep telling me I won't achieve anything?

You keep telling me it feels like I live in a different world.

Well maybe. But where I live, it's always really cold.

The freezing temperature makes me unable to function normally.

And you still think it's just some kind of mind anomaly.

“It's all in your head” well where else is it supposed to be?

In my hand? In my leg? It’s still all me.

Those feelings won't disappear when you tell me to change my mindset.

It doesn't work like that. Please just inform yourself.

It hurts so bad I can't even get out of bed.

And all you care about is school attendance and grades.

Ah, sorry, I forgot to mention money.

You care about that too, don't you mommy?

You don't understand! You don't get it in the slightest!

You don't know how it is to live in your nightmares!

I'm just so tired.. Please end it already..

Please, I beg you.. I really am begging?!

Hah! So pathetic! So pathetic of me!

Now my heart really will bleed!

I can't understand it. I can't understand it at all.

Please just hug me and keep me warm..

I want this place to feel like home..

Like it used to before..

I just love this poem so much. Ever since I was born, I was in the foster care system because of my mom and dad. They didn't want me, and my mother had me at 14. I loved my mom. I adored my mom. I loved my dad too, but I was always a mommy's girl. When me and my little brother would visit her, and when we would leave, I would always cry. I thought when I was little, we were finally going to be together. But that never happened. Whenever she said she would get us back, and be a family, she would do something to mess up and go to jail. My brother was younger than me, but he knew that we were never going to be a family. However, I kept holding onto the fact that we would be together. That didn't work, and now I'm with a beautiful woman who I can now call mom.

I really like this part of the poem:
Why can't you notice my pain and suffering?
I just keep wondering why my mother wouldn't notice the ache and pain she was making me feel every time she screwed up, and it delayed getting me and my brother back.

That's so sad :( I'm glad it's better now tho. You went through a lot and didn't deserve any of this. You're so strong!

Thank you

You have a gift. This is amazing. You take pain and suffering and turn it into something incredible. I will never be able to understand your pain, but this helped. Please, never give up on this, no matter what you go through. This is your passion, I've never met you, but I can tell through your writing, in your emotions.

Hi! I really like this, but are you okay?
The lines are so raw and painful, the narrator shifts from sad to angry, to almost resignation.

I'm guessing it's about a child and parent, but the parent gets angrier and colder as the child grows up. Then, the coldness creeps into the child, hiding in the crevices of their mind, making them tired, and done.

"Please just hug me and keep me warm..

I want this place to feel like home..

Like it used to before.."

From these lines we know that it wasn't always like this, their house used to be bright and warm. The mother used to show outward affection. But, maybe something happened, creating the shift.

"You keep telling me it feels like I live in a different world.

Well maybe. But where I live, it's always really cold.

The freezing temperature makes me unable to function normally.

And you still think it's just some kind of mind anomaly."

Does the narrator have depression? Or is it just very vivid sadness, or maybe a mixture? I'm pretty sure they have depression, please inform me if I'm wrong.

"“It's all in your head” well where else is it supposed to be?"
This is a very important addition, it shows the mother's reaction to their child's emotions

Okay, that's it, this was really good, and I hope you are happy and write more!

Hi! This poem was super well done, it definitely resonates with me as someone with a not so good relationship with their mom. I like the detail that it *used* to be different, so you can really feel the loss of love instead of just being accustom to being unloved.

I also take it that the "cold" within the speaker is depression, or a similar mental disorder. So many parents don't really understand mental health because they grew up in a time before it was really a thing to tale seriously, so I'm sure many people feel seen through this work, who can't get out of bed because they're trapped in their mind.

The aspect of feeling humiliated or embarrassed by wanting affection is also a great touch. It's like you're so used to being rejected you don't know why you try anymore.

I think this was a great poem overall, I'd love to see this as maybe a short story, I feel like the concept would be great for a longer story with just the addition of a plot!

Hi! This poem is really emotional! I actually had tears in my eyes by the end. The way this is written is very emotive, and it's beautiful. I don't really know what else to say, since I haven't done that many reviews, but probably going to ramble a lot and repeat myself from now on. The bit that really got me was 'I'm just so tired.. Please end it already..'. Wow. I have no more words. But this is a wonderful and emotional poem. Keep up your brilliant work!

Hello! The soon as I read the title, I knew it was going to be a great emotional read. It’s CATS here to leave a review using my own method, CATS opinion! Let’s dive in.
FLASH OF GLOWING EYES
The cats are judging what it looks like from first glance. They love how it’s separated into different stanzas and that it looks so neat.
SOFT FUR
My turn to comment on this part. I think my favourite part is the last stanza. It carries so much thoughts and feelings and is strong. It tells us so much about what the mother is like, but only gives us a hint that maybe she was better in the past. It makes the reader wonder why. Great work here!
WARM PURR
Okay, the cat’s turn. She thinks that the parts that were done very well were the first stanza, the fourth stanza, the fifth stanza, and the last stanza as well! They really show STRONG feeling and the first stanza starts off with questions which enhances the entire poem. The end is also very nice, showing the narrator drifting away into their own thoughts that we cannot see. She meows there is also some slight rhyming throughout the entire poem, so consistent of you! It goes well!
SHARP CLAWS
Some parts that need improvement. The “..” should be “...” it’s either one period or three. No more, no less. Maybe it’s different from where you live? That is all, all the other grammar and punctuation is perfect and the poem flows through nicely!
CONCLUDING MEOW
My cat’s turn. She meows overall, this poem might be her favourite because it sank into the reader so deep until it reached their heart. It’s so deeply painful in a good way. The poems touch the reader at most tunes, and they feel empathy for the narrator too! Can’t wait to hear more, meow!
Happy EVERYTHING!!!
Love,
CATS

HII CATS! Thank you so much for the review! I always look forward to see one from you! And thank you so much for the nice words! Also about the ".." it's just my thing. I never type three of them, it's how it looks in my texts even when I text someone! It's just my lil special thing that only I do so I've decided to use it for poems too to make them more.. me!

Honestly I used to do that too..
maybe I should keep it..
But it%u2019s your thing..
Happy Writing...
