Immersion

That world sizes her up,

‎dull paints but colours nonetheless—

‎A utopia of fantasies.

‎Those morbid thoughts leave her,

‎they don't come chasing.

‎She flies and flutters, or perhaps she sinks;

‎so immersed, it didn't matter.

‎The world greets her with open arms,

‎although with no warmth.

‎The world was blooming, captivating,

‎and thus she was a child again.

‎There were walls, or perhaps prison bars

‎but it danced playfully, so that didn't bother her.

‎Soon she returned , she had to

‎and reality intruded with it's sundering thoughts.

‎No no no, she didn't belong here,

‎she belonged to that world !

‎The return made it all worse,

‎limbs convulsing, she didn't want to die.

‎Train of morbid visions gripped her throat.

‎Air and voice ended up abandoning her.

‎She lived like that for a couple of days

‎until she wandered back.

‎And once she did she found,

‎there was no turning back.

‎So she questioned her notions,

‎"Why leave this world?"

‎She's alive and she's she in here

‎nothing hunting her,

‎no dread, unless she reverted.

‎Reality didn't need her

‎but that world?

‎It owned her.

Hii, Eucalyptusjoos here.

I'm going to start this review off with my interpretation.

I like how both worlds, the one she's from and the one she wants to stay in, aren't all that wonderful on their own. Perhaps on a relative scale one is better, but she's so broken, so hurt, so tired that even a gilded cage is more tolerable than what she's used to.

She's never had good things, so she's alright with the approximation of 'good'. Dull paints are fantastical for her. She is finally free from those 'morbid thoughts'.

"She flies and flutters, or perhaps she sinks;

‎so immersed, it didn't matter."

All that matters is that she can feel it, and feel it in its entirety. It envelops her and does not return her to the bad place.

"The world greets her with open arms,

‎although with no warmth."

That's alright, because she has never been embraced. For her, a world without warmth is better than one that doesn't even try to imitate it.

She just doesn't want to feel pain again. The world doesn't need to have happiness for her to want to stay in it.

"Soon she returned , she had to

‎and reality intruded with it's sundering thoughts.

‎No no no, she didn't belong here,

‎she belonged to that world !"

Escapism will always end.

"The return made it all worse,

‎limbs convulsing, she didn't want to die.

‎Train of morbid visions gripped her throat.

‎Air and voice ended up abandoning her."

I've found this poem is the perfect allegory to using drugs as escapism, and the above stanza is such a good allusion to a drug withdrawal.

"no dread, unless she reverted."
The pain always comes back. The dreams end, and you can forget that fleeting, freeing, flying feeling.

"It owned her."

This sentence is so good because yes, she's addicted to the other world (substance abuse) and it is the only ledge she can hold on to.

I really liked this poem and the imagery resonates very well. I would suggest sectioning parts into smaller stanzas as you see fit so that some parts can be highlighted and be made more hard-hitting.

Good job! <333

Hello! It's me here to leave a review! I haven't done one in sooo long but since I'm unoccupied rn, here I am! Let's dive innnn
To start off, the title really catches my eye. It's unique, and not many people write about it. It's also really pleasing to read for some reason.
The world is big, and sometimes it can get overwhelming. You show that very well in the first bit!
The world is such a strange place sometimes, isn't it? It welcomes people with open arms, yet with no glee. That part of the poem is my favorite in the stanza! The girl saw the world as a playful, colorful, bright place full of happiness.
When we slowly grow up, the world's color seems to fade more and more until eventually, it's just a black and white reality show. Reality is hard to face, and it feels better sometimes just to melt away, and forget all of the things happening in the world at the moment.
The way you explained that is so thoughtful and detailed. I loved reading it.
The ending gave off a bittersweet vibe. The playful, colorful world is the one she belonged to, not the black and white, overwhelming reality.
I like how you let the reader interpret the poem in their way, although we never know how the author interpreted it, and how each word is placed with their own meaning.
Thank you so much for sharing this, and I genuinely loved it so much!!
Happy Writing!
