Just some information... I know that you may not understand why there fighting or who they really are. But if you could tell me how I should change my writing that would be excellent. Also, the character Hamato just witnessed his mother die from cancer at a hospital. Now he came to Jonah's school and they are fighting on the roof.
Their eyes narrowed
and they bolted towards each other. With the clamor of metal, their swords violently clashed between them. Jonah pulled away, jumping backwards, but Hamato
did not allow it. He dashed forward and their swords met again. They continued
slashing and dodging, it was a perfect stalemate.
“DIE” Hamato screamed in abhor, slashing his weapon diagonally downward.
“I really don’t want to!”
Hamato narrowed his eyes and dashed forward, jumping into the air and bringing his sword down. Jonah launched himself back as the blade missed and stabbed into the roof. Jonah took this opportunity, running past his enemy, cutting his arm. Hamato yanked his weapon out of the roof just in time to block Jonah’s next swing.
Their swords met with a fury of silver flashes. Each person waiting for a chance to strike. Jonah caught a glimpse of an opening and took the opportunity. He blocked his advisory’s sword and launched forward. Hamato did not have time to block but was able to turn his body and dodge the attack. Jonah gritted his teeth, angry that he had missed his chance. He turned his blade and swung it horizontally.
Hamato’s eyes widened. He gripped his hilt and swung his weapon with all his energy. He deflected the attack and the force of his swing sent Jonah’s sword flying through the air before crashing onto the ground about twenty feet away right next to the railing on the edge of the rooftop.
“You’re out of time,” declared Hamato, smiling deviously.
“Haaa,” Jonah let out a whimpering laugh. He raised his hands as if a gun as pointed at him.
Jonah kicked his shoe off his foot, hitting his rival in the face. He then turned and sprinted to his weapon with Hamato right behind him. He reached down, grabbed the sword and quickly raised it to block Hamato’s attack. Hamato kept his momentum and pressed forward causing Jonah to slowing keep backing up.
Their blade slashed so rapidly that Jonah was having a hard time keeping up. He jumped back but as he did Hamato raced forward and kicked him while in midair. Jonah let go of his sword and landed on his back. Hamato walked forward, laughing.
“You really botched this one,” he said villainously, raising his sword up high.
“WAAACHHAAA!” Jonah screamed, kicking Hamato’s legs out from under him.
Hamato fell to the ground and Jonah rolled back onto his feet. Then he ran past Hamato to his katana but tripped when Hamato grabbed his leg. Jonah rolled over and began kicking his opponent repeatedly in the face.
“Let go, you savage!” he yelled right before Hamato finally lost his grasp.
Grasping the hilt of his blade, Jonah turned back to his enemy, who was no longer on the ground but instead standing, about to strike his face. Jonah leaned back and dodged the attack, then tossed the katana to his left hand and punched with his right.
His knuckles kissed his opponents chin. Hamato’s head snapped back, just he regain composer and threw his own punch which struck his enemy’s cheek. Jonah jumped back and took several deep breaths before focusing himself again. His opponent gripped his blade tighter before launching into another assault. Jonah block with his katana and stepped forward, throwing another punch.
Hamato grabbed his revival’s wrist and flipped him over his shoulder. Jonah bounced against the ground, smacking his head painfully hard against it and letting go of this sword. Hamato picked up the weapon, and quickly stabbed it through Jonah’s chest and into the roof under him.
“AAHH!” he screamed in affliction but his cries were cut short for his mouth filled with warm blood
“You know,” Hamato said, raising his index finger, “Your scream is really vexing.”
“I never understand what the hell you’re saying,” he mumbled, coughing blood onto himself.
Jonah tried to pull his sword out of his chest but his arms could not reach the hilt. He stared at the blade for a painful moment and wrapped his fingers slowly around it. Hamato turned on his heel and walked back to where he had dropped his own weapon.
This is going to hurt so bad.
Jonah tightened his grip around the blade, slicing his fingers. With a sudden jerk, he pulled the katana out of himself. Quickly, he rolled onto his stomach and slowly began to lift himself up.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Hamato had returned and he stabbed his sword though Jonah’s back and into the roof.
Jonah let out a scream that muffled Hamato’s laugh. He picked up Jonah’s sword and continued to stab it into him repeatedly. Blood splattered over his clothes and face but he did not let up. After a few moments Jonah stopped his yelling, his head tilted to the side and his mouth was agape.
“Torture is not fun when I can’t hear you scream!” He yelled, stabbing Jonah in the leg.
Hamato frowned like a child. He tilted his head and thought for a moment, before pulling the sword out of his enemy and picked him up.
“Hey!” He yelled slapping Jonah a few time, “I am getting bored, wake up!”
Jonah’s head slumped to the side, leaning on his shoulder. Hamato dropped his body, then sheathed his own weapon. Next, he extracted Jonah’s katana and sheathed it as well. Slinging both around his shoulder, he began walking away.
“I think I am going to hold on this,” he said, pointing to Jonah’s weapon, “See you later.”
Jonah heard the door to the roof close, then his eyes slowly closed. After what felt like a moment, he opened his eyes again and sat up to see his wounds had been healed. The sprinkles of raindrops had turned into a downpour, washing the blood away.
“No, no, no, no, no, NO!” Jonah exclaimed, punching the concrete in frustration

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
Hi there, here for a review! Disclaimer: I can get nitpicky. Don't take it personally, it's just my reviewing style. You can do as your heart desires with my opinions.
Also, don't look at anything as "changing" your writing style- refining it is more like it!

Let me say, I really enjoyed this! A wonderful base for an action scene. You really set it up well with the characters and the dialogue. Alright- time to get into the nitty-gritty stuff.
I'm sure this is just a typo, but "violently" needs to be "violent" in the first paragraph.
Your first paragraph is good, but let's look at the first line of dialogue:
"...slashing his weapon diagonally downward." This is worded awkwardly. I would scrap "diagonally" and just leave it as "...slashing his weapon downward" or "slashing his weapon at a downward angle."
“I really don’t want to!” Let's change this to "I'd rather not." It sounds more snarky. Sometimes "really" isn't strong enough of a word.
"Their swords met with a fury of silver flashes." "fury" would sound better as "flurry."
Also, let's not forget, there's plenty of words for "jumping," like hopping, leaping, catapulting up into the air, etc.
The key to good action-writing is using descriptive adverbs. You want to keep your reader engaged by mixing up the word choice as well as your descriptions. Always look at a word and have a list of about five other words to play around with in it's place. Just keep switching out the word until you get a nice fit!
Overall, the first portion of this is very good! Just follow my advice above ^
"He turned his blade and swung it horizontally." Here's another sentence that's a bit disjointed, similar to the "downward diagonally" line I referred to. I'm not quite sure how you "swing" a sword horizontally. (Sorry- that's not supposed to sound sarcastic- I just can't envision that action clearly as a reader.)
Let's change this to "He turned his blade and aimed it straight," or "He turned on his blade and jabbed it at his opponent."
Another key with action scenes is precise language. You don't want your words flying all over the place like your characters swords. You want clean-cut, smooth lines. Your overall diction is good, it just needs a little fine-tuning.
I think the "no's" at the end are too much. I'd just leave it with one italicized "No!"
Overall, this is good fighting scene, and I enjoyed it! All you need to do is a little revising to clean it up. You're a great writer! I really like this! Hope my incessant rambling didn't scare you off.
Happy writing,
Kali L.
Thank you so much!! I need more people to be brutally honest. I need to use there tips to edit the other half dozen fight scenes in the book haha
Your welcome, I'm glad I could help!
Hey! I'm here to review this!

"With the clamor of metal, their violently swords clashed between them."
That sounds a little weird. Try rewording it.
"He dashed forward and their swords meet again."
Met
please don't put words in all caps when you are writing. It's a little pet peeve of mine, I mean exclamations marks are enough.
"Hamato narrowed his eyes and dashed forward, jumping into the air and bringing his sword down. Jonah launched himself back as the blade missed and stabbed into the roof. Jonah took this opportunity, running past his enemy, cutting his arm. Hamato yanked his weapon out of the roof just in time to block Jonah’s next swing."
In this paragraph you start a lot of sentences with characters name's. Try changing it up so it doesn't sound tedious and repetitive.
"“WAAACHHAAA!” Jonah screamed, kicking Hamato’s legs out from under him." Anime? xD I love it.
Your dialogue is amazing.
Also you should put a violence warning on this.
I'm confused. Wasn't he stabbed in the heart?
Anyway those are just my thoughts in a review. Sorry if it was messy. I hope this was what you wanted
Rachel
Thanks, I need to back and read the whole second draft over... all 70 words 0_0. That way I can catch all those little mistakes. I mean to have it "Swords violently"
I really try to not use their name so much but if I use "he" it might be difficult to understand who is doing the action. Any ideas on that? Also, they come back to life after they die haha
Oh okay. I don't know about not using his name so much but perhaps start the sentences with: suddenly, violently, etc.
