Rolled.

by Willard

I'm trying,
To write a love poem.
Scrolling the internet,
Alone at home.

There is this idea,
I'm afraid to do.
If I pull it off,
I'll be a honest fool.

It doesn't involve,
A simplified rhyme.
To poetry,
It's a crime.

After this,
I've never sunk so low.
Are you ready?
I'll go!

uhhhhhhhh.......what. your poem is awesome, but how long did you spend making that picture of rick astley?! the sad part is, as soon as i started reading the last line, i heard that electronic drum entrance and my brain turned into a disco floor. also, is this a internet thing? is there a group of people whose sole purpose is to plant rick astley lyrics across the interwebs? if there is you should join them sir. i applaud your skill and imaginative powers with punctuation. im sure this was funny for those cultured in the ways of the internet, so keep up the good work man.

This was, to say the least strange! I applaud you sir!
I can honestly say I have never seen anything like that punctuation art. You certainly didn't fall into the common mistake of using too little punctuation.
I must sat that the poem itself seems a little lyrics like, particularly the last verse. The last verse, though it is certainly very nice, methinks lacks... . Perhaps should you write a rhyming couplet for a finale line that might redress this, and also I generally like last two rhyming couplet lines like that.
Anyways, keep up the good work, and keep on writing/drawing. Esp. rhyming poetry. :-)

Hey, um, I know this is Strange's poem so this might be imposing but... Those are Rick Astley lyrics. It's a big 80s pop song that people cringe at the cheesiness of but also know the majority of the words to :)

I always kind of hate happening across things that I don't know if they are a result of weird formatting or actually intentional, because what I liked most about this poem was the bookends of text with the picture in the middle -- but especially because it seems like toward the bottom the person is fragmenting, and breaking away toward the sides. I mean, I guess it's probably that the text box was not wide enough to fit in the whole person, but the way it's kind of broken up spoke poetically to me -- 'cause you know, I'm a poet.

I LIKED it, it was like this guy was trying to present himself as the love poem, but he couldn't keep up his tie-wearing appearances very well, and that mask, that "I'm romantic and confident" mask was slipping away toward the side, which fit really well with the tone toward the beginning -- "I've never done this before".

And if I were to extrapolate it, I could be like "and the meaning of the rickroll is that this man is not comfortable with genuinely presenting himself so he regresses back into humor and hiding behind a meme joke", but I do recognize you were just tryna be funny, so I won't put too much pressure on you.

Let's just notice the awesomeness of picture poetry together (I keep forgetting what those pictures made of texts are called -- ASICS? or something??)

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!
PM or reply to the review~

Good luck and keep writing and maybe make more deformed pictures!

Hannah

I agree with FiguringOutLife, this is clever and sweet. I'm not sure if it's meant to be or if it's just there for fun; that picture is a great part of the poem. It just sort of shouts a warning that something fun and cheeky is coming up. When those lyrics appeared, I shouted them in my head. I've got nothing to pick at; this is awesome!

Well this did make me smile :)
I like that it's a fun poem, and I also like what you did at the end. Creative and original! Nice to see a poem like this once in a while.
