Vicky...Not so Icky?

PreviousNext

Author's Note: Hello, YWS'ers! This is my very first attempt (on this site) at writing a fanfic! It's a fancfiction of that old Nickelodeon show, "The Fairly Oddparents." in which a slightly older Timmy Turner realizes that his "evil" babysitter wasn't as evil as he had thought...In fact, he loved her. I took the liberty of omitting anything having to do with the baby, Poof, as I thought it'd distract from the rest of the story. This was done entirely out of impulse and a love for Vicky's character, so it's not gonna be perfect, but it's only meant to be entertaining. Anyways, enjoy!

The sunset air fell warmly against Timmy's face as he opened his bedroom window. Here it was; Saturday evening. The fourteen-year-old had been waiting anxiously for an evening just like this for as long as he could remember. His parents would be going out to their anniversary dinner tonight, and Timmy would be alone with his fairy godparents...and without Vicky. His feeling of happiness was nothing short of overwhelming.

"Timmy!", yelled his mother from downstairs, "Come down here a minute. We need to set a few rules with you before we go." The boy rolled his eyes at the two goldfish who had become his two closest companions before responding.

"Coming, Mom!"

As he bounded down the steps, Timmy felt his heart begin to race, and his pulse begin to quicken. Here he was, about to enjoy a full night of undisturbed wishing and, most of all, a night without that rotten babysitter. Timmy's lips curled into an ear-to ear smile as he began to hum the lighthearted tune of Chip Skylark's hit single, "Icky Vicky.", which he so fondly remembered that he had helped to produce. Within seconds, he had come to the bottom of the stairwell to find his parents looking at him with a curious glint of worry in their eyes.

"Hey, guys!", he exclaimed, "About those rules?"

His parents looked at each other with quizzical expressions on their faces, and then, towards Timmy. They had never seen their son quite so excited to discuss rules.

"Well, Timmy.", began his father, "No answering the telephone unless you know who is calling...and no answering if it's Dinkleberg of course...Dinklebergggg."

"Okay.", laughed Timmy, "What else?"

"Oh, nothing too crazy. Just don't answer the door, and make sure you go to bed by 10:00." Timmy struggled to conceal a devious grin.

"I will.", he sighed.

"Okay, then.", injected his mother, "You're fourteen now, and we think you can handle yourself without us having to call Vicky, but her number is on the fridge in case you...you know...get lonely. The boy felt a cold chill run down his spine.

"Uh, okay mom.", he replied, fully aware that he would not be calling that God-forsaken number for any possible reason.

"Well, alright, son.", said his father, opening the front door "We'll see you tomorrow morning."

"Bye, guys!"

After he heard the metallic click of his parents locking the front door, Timmy raced towards the living room window. He watched eagerly as the family car slowly pulled out of the driveway and began to roll smoothly out of sight, and down the street. "Here we go.", he thought, "It's showtime."

Timmy ran back up to his room, even happier than before. But this time, a disturbing thought made its way into his mind. "What if I need to call Vicky?", he thought, "What if I do get lonely?" The boy frantically rubbed his forehead as he walked back into his room. Something wasn't right. He was sweating.

"Hey, sport.", said Wanda from the fish bowl, "You don't look so good. I thought you were excited to have some alone time."

"Yeah!", erupted Cosmo, "Alone time at home time!"

"Well guys.", began Timmy, "I did...it's just...I don't know."

"What is it, Timmy? Don't know what to wish for?"

"No. I guess I just...I guess I just need to make a few warm-up wishes."

"Alright, sport.", smiled Wanda.

Timmy smiled faintly back into the fish bowl in an attempt to hide his discomfort. He drew in a deep breath before making his first wish. "I wish...I had a banana split!"

"No problem!" Cosmo and Wanda emerged from the fish bowl as they shifted into their regular forms. With a single wave of their wands, a banana split appeared before the boy.

"Thanks guys!", ejected Timmy as he began to dig his spoon into one of the giant vanilla ice cream scoops. What had he been thinking? Being at home alone was going to be great, and no thought of Icky Vicky would get in the way of a good time...or so he thought.

Timmy laid on his bed, staring up at the OBEY poster on the ceiling, both hands gently rubbing a full stomach. "Dinner is always best when it's actually dessert.", he thought. The boy sat up to find his fairies back in their fishbowl, sleeping. Had he fallen asleep too? What time was it? And most importantly, was it too late to call Vicky? He looked up at his bedroom clock and was pleased to see that it was only 8:05. Timmy cringed at himself for so much as having let that vile thought pop into his head once again. The boy got out of bed and walked over to the fish bowl. "I'll let them sleep.", he thought, "Maybe being home alone isn't all it's made out to be." He exited his room, quietly shutting the door as not to disturb Cosmo and Wanda, and made his way back down to the bottom of the stairway. Timmy looked across the kitchen towards the refrigerator. The only thing he saw was the pink Post-It note upon which his babysitter's number had been written. "Argh.", he groaned, "Snap out of it, Timmy."

Before long, Timmy had situated himself on the living room sofa, resting his head upon one of the armrests, the remote control in his hand. He felt his eyelids getting heavier by the minute. "Wow.", he thought, "This is a total bummer. Nothing is on tonight." The young man turned off the television and gently closed his eyes.

"Hey, Twerp!", shouted a piercing female voice, "I see you're being a couch potato tonight. Why don't you get up and pour me some iced tea? Four ice cubes, and no lemon this time." Timmy opened his eyes to find a sight that sent those familiar chills down his spine and made his heart skip a beat at the very same same time. There she was. It was Vicky. Her shiny red hair was fashioned into that beautifully elegant pony tail, and her bright pink irises frowned deeply into his soul.

"Oh!", squealed Timmy, "Sure. I'll get right on it."

"You'd better. Now hurry up, Twerp! Drinks don't pour themselves you know."

"I know.", he smiled. Timmy couldn't put his finger on it, but something about the way she yelled at him made the rhythms of his heart rise and fall with every syllable. It was almost as if each harsh abuse drew him deeper and deeper into her spiral of affection.

"Where's my tea, Twerp?", demanded Vicky. By now, she had taken a seat on the living room sofa where, only a few short minutes ago, Timmy had been sleeping, alone.

"It's coming. Just a second."

As he re-entered the living room, Timmy felt her amused leer burning into the back of his head, and into his very soul. It was no use trying to fight it, for he had fallen completely and hopelessly in love with Vicky. But hadn't he always loved her? The babysitter continued to examine him with her analytical gaze. Timmy straightened his back and took a deep breath in an attempt to keep from shaking. He was tired, and he was afraid, but, most of all, he was giddy at the thought of having prepared a glass of iced tea for his favorite babysitter. After all, she did look quite lovely this evening.

"Well done, Twerp. Now come here and hand me that drink."

"Absolutely, Vicky."

Timmy began to walk towards her, his eyes fixated on hers. The only sound that could be heard throughout the house was the light clink of ice cubes against the side of the glass. Once he had reached the couch, he shyly extended the drink towards Vicky. His heart began to race even faster than before. The girl took a few small sips before setting her tea down on top of one of the armrests. Timmy thought he saw her devilish expression soften with each sip. He had heard all sorts of things from Vicky over the years, but he never could've been prepared for what she would say next.

"Thank you...Timmy.", she smiled. There was nothing quite like that smile. It was the same one he'd always seen on her face when she picked on him or gave him wedgies, but this time, something was different.

"See, Turner.", she began, "You're really one of a kind. I don't know anyone else on the entire planet who would put up with me; the way I...carry on." The boy began to blush. He had never seen Vicky at a loss for words this way. She was even more beautiful when she was confused. "I guess what I'm trying to say is...that you're a special kid, and that I love you." Timmy felt as though a thousand car alarms had just gone off in his head. All he had ever dreamed of, was about to come true.

"Gee, Vicky.", he replied, "I...I love you too."

Timmy woke with a start and rolled off the couch and onto the cold tile floor. "What was that?", he thought. The thirteen-year-old rubbed his eyes and brought himself to his feet. Once again, he was alone in the living room.

"Mom?", he called, "Dad?" There was no response. The room was silent, save for the playful ticking of the clock upon the wall. Timmy jerked his head up to look at the time. It was 12:30 in the morning! "What a dream!", he sighed. The pink-hatted boy brushed himself off before walking slowly into the kitchen. He walked over to the refrigerator to find the note containing Vicky's phone number. "Yes!", he exclaimed, "I am quite lonely right now." Timmy took the note off of the refrigerator door and carried it over to the breakfast nook. After studying the number several times, he picked up the telephone on the counter and began to dial. Beads of hot sweat covered his face and neck.

"Brrrrrrrr!", droned the telephone. Timmy began to finger the cord nervously. Just when it seemed like there would be no answer, he heard that angelic voice from the other end of the line.

"H-hello.", said the voice of a half-asleep Vicky. The love-struck Timmy had no clue what to say.

"Uh, hi Vicky. It's-"

"Oh...hey, Twerp.", yawned the babysitter.

"Uh, hi. I'm a bit...lonely. So I was wondering if maybe you could come over and keep me company."

This request was met with boisterous laughter from the other end of the line. "Buck-Tooth afraid of the dark?, laughed Vicky. "Oh, that's rich!"

"Uh, no.", said Timmy hesitantly. "I just...I want to see you." There was a long silence.

"Well.", teased Vicky in that tone he so loved, "I'll be right over with a teddy bear and a night light!" There was something about this comment that made Timmy's toes curl up, and his cheeks turn bright red.

"Okay...I'll see you then." Timmy took the phone from his ear and began to hang up.

"Oh, but, Twerp?"

"Yes, Vicky."

"Why don't you fix me a glass of iced tea before i get over there. Four ice cubes, and no lemon this time."

"My pleasure.", smiled Timmy.

"Good Twerp.", snickered Vicky, "I'll want it cold when I get there."

"Anything for you.", replied Timmy impulsively.

"That's what I like to hear.", said Vicky, a tone of caustic affection in her voice. Timmy heard the lovely click of Vicky hanging up the phone before hanging up as well. "I love that woman.", he thought, "I really do."

Vicky and Timmy? Not something I saw coming, but hey still surprisingly cute. Wait, what'll happen to Cosmo and Wanda now that Timmy's in love with one of the only reasons they're allowed to stay? Though i suppose I should be more worried on whether or not Tootie will go all slasher movie on them. After all she in love with Timmy ,and Vicky's her mean older sister. That's gotta sting at least a little.....is it weird that now I can't stop thinking about Tootie as DeepToot, from that one episode, with an axe and a crazy look in her eye? Anyways, not the point, the point is that as plainly seen your theme for the story was the weirdness of love. It worked for you really well too. In fact the only question I pose is whether or not Timmy's a masochist, 'cause seriously no matter how cute they are together I'm pretty sure Vicky's tried to kill him before. Anyways awesome story, moving on to the next chapter soon!=^_^=

P.S. Oh wait before I forget, saw your new picture (awesome by the way!) and I just wanted to say I ship Helga and Arnold like FedEx! =^_^=

Hey, here I am as promised! I've roughly got an idea of what the show's about now, but it's probably best to keep in mind that I don't know it well enough to say if a character is acting accurately or not.

Specifics

1. This is fun so far, but one thing I noticed is your way of ending dialogue is really odd - you keep using multiple punctuation marks like this:

"I will.", he sighed.

Instead, the above sentence should be: "I will," he sighed.

When you follow dialogue with a 'said' tag so he shouted or she called or I moaned, then you need a comma inside the quotation marks and nothing outside. If you finish the dialogue and then have a descriptive sentence or basically anything which is unconnected, so: He turned away and walked in the other direction. Then you need to have a full stop/ period inside the quotation marks and nothing outside.

This will make your writing much easier to follow!

2. I think Timmy starts to miss Vicky a little too quickly! He should have more fun first, before he questions whether he might call her or not. That feels like too fast a turn around.

3. Some more description of Cosmo and Wanda coming out of the fish bowl would be cool! You have to keep in mind that a lot of people haven't read the series so we may not know what they're regular forms are and certainly not what they look like. Describing Timmy's house a little would also help us to have a stronger sense of setting. Just because it's fan-fic, doesn't mean you can get away with not describing!

4. "Thanks guys!", ejected Timmy << What's with all these strange dialogue tags? Just use said evey once in a while. Said is a great dialogue tag as people don't even read it so it makes a sentence really smooth and makes your writing flow. When you use unusual tags like this, it pulls the reader out of your story because they feel forced and misplaced.

5. I think Timmy needs to make more wishes before falling asleep! What 14 year old falls asleep before 8?! He needs to do more to tire himself out.

6. Timmy just got younger ;) You say he's thirteen later in the story, but fourteen earlier. You need to decide which and fix the wrong one.

Overall

This is a good bit of fun! I'm not sure that the relationship between the two characters feels genuine, but it may be because I don't know their personalities well and if you had fun writing it then that doesn't really matter. You've got a nice, easy going style of writing that's mostly easy to follow and engage with so this was an easy read. It would be improved with more description so we can picture the characters and place better and I think it does feel a bit rushed, but I guess that's okay for a fun piece.

All the best!

Heather xx

Wow thanks a lot you had a lot to say! I agree about the dialogue and the description feedback. And yeah the age thing was because I went back and changed it lol. But i did hve a lot of fun writing it and I'm glad you enjoyed reading it! A lot of what you said I had already taken into account for part two. Anyways, thanks for the review!!! ;D

Hey there! RobbieFava here!
Man, I am glad that I checked this story out. I almost died laughing. :P
I thought that you got the dialogue perfectly. I could see every character clearly (even the parents who had like a three second part) and it made me really feel as though this could have actually been a FOP episode. HILARIOUS!!!
I thought it was a really interesting concept having Timmy discover a new-found fondness for Vicky who I always assumed was entirely unlovable. I was a little hesitant about the idea, but you made it work flawlessly and effortlessly. I also think that it was good for you to skip ahead a couple of years to when Timmy becomes a teenager and no longer has a need for her (aside from the yearning in his heart!)
I also loved the dream-sequence. For a second it made me really relate to Vicky, who suddenly became less of a maniacal villain and more of a whole and well-rounded person. However, I was also relieved to find that it was in fact a dream-sequence because everything that I had ever known or assumed about her had suddenly been flushed away with the emergence of her new emotions.
The only thing that I would have suggested would be to give Cosmo and Wanda a few more lines. I felt as though they were a little underplayed here but, then again, the entire point of the story had little to do with them at all. :P
It's very well-done. Very creative and very entertaining. And I for one rarely ever enjoy fanfiction so kudos! I think I saw that you added another installment so I'm excited to read it! Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot for this review! :D I'm really glad that u liked it! I always wanted to tap into this kind of storyline haha. As for Cosmo and Wanda, I wrote a sequel to this which is up now in which I tried to give them a larger presence. U can check it out if you want, but if not, thanks for this awesome review! I appreciate the feedback and compliments.

Nice job! Like I promised, I decided to check this out and I have to say its really well done. Like I said in my other review, you have a really nice writing style that flows across the page, and you always add plenty of details to spice up your writing. I love how nervous and fluttery you made Timmy. It was really cute and I think it goes along with his character nicely. Overall, this was a very nice piece.

I have a few suggestions, though. Nothing big, but I just like to nitpick stories.

First of all, I think Timmy seems a tiny bit older than 13. It would make more sense to me if he were 14 or 15. Not really for any specific reason, I just feel that at that age it would be less of a big deal if Vicky felt that she liked him back, since he'd be older. The older the characters are, the less the age difference of the characters matter. That's just how it is.

Secondly, I think that Timmy needs to have more REASON to like Vicky. I get that he loves her and he finds her harsh, controlling manner somehow attractive, but what I want to know is why. If you do a new chapter, try to add in a scene where Timmy thinks back to moments in his past where he and Vicky actually got along, and Timmy actually saw a part of her that wasn't all evil. It will make it more realistic and believable that he fell for her, then.

Lastly, I think Vicky should act a little more surprised when Timmy calls her in the middle of the night. She acted almost as if it were a normal thing. Just try and make her more confused in that scene.

Well, that's really it. Everything else was just great :). Keep writing, your good at it :D

Thanks so much for checking this out! :D I really appreciate the suggestions here. I think that a flashback explanation would be very effective in moving this forward. Changing Timmy's age is as easy as cake hahaha, and I agree 101%. I especially like what you said about reason to like her. I thought about re watching the episodes where she becomes nice and also the episode hen they cuddle together in that cave to stay warm. Those r the only times I think there are when the two show any kind of good will or affection towards one another. As for her being surprised, I see what you're getting at. I was trying to make it seem like this had happened before, but I think that would need more narrative backing. Overall, thank you very much! I hope you'll continue to follow this storyline. Ill check out some of ur works!!! ;)

I'm glad I could help! Your story was really great, don't get me wrong, but I think every good fic has room for improvement. As for the flashback, if you can't find anything you could always just make one up. Well, good luck! :D

Haha! Nice job. You really are a good writer, there were a few typos but you've got good grammar and good spelling.

It was an entertaining story, too. I could see this being an actual show. I also like how the "love" Timmy feels is slightly ridiculous and a little bit rash and doesn't really make sense, because that's just like most 13 year old "loves".

The main thing I can think off as to how to make this better, is I'd say follow the character development more. Show more of the transition between going from "gross, baby sitter" to "ooh, Vicky!" so that the readers can follow along with Timmy's feelings.

This wasn't much of a review, but I hope it helps! Nice job. And feel free to send me other stories or whatever that you need reviews for.

Anything helps! Thanks for the complimenents. If I do continue this piece, the character development will be a large part of improving upon this start, so thanks alot for addressing that. ;)

hahahaha...nice,i love it,laugh out loud...this is cute, you really got me interested with this piece, but what's going to happen next,i mean the fairies, you know i was actually thinking that since the parents set some ground rules about him not opening for anybody or calling anybody except vicky(my name sake...#grins#) maybe something evil should have happened you know#evil grin# maybe when vicky later comes over to the house, she will be evil or do something evil or might be like you know like that#my baby sitter is a vampire#kind of thing on disney...just wishful thinking...i like the cartoon picture at the ending...you are great, kudos

Yeah. I might make a sequel. Not sure yet. But I'm glad u enjoyed it thanks for the compliments hahaha. :) And nice suggestions. Ya never know what could happen! Ill keep ya posted no doubt.

Hey Greeny! "Vicky..not so icky" that's a funny title. And to be true I thoroughly liked this short story.I can see your hard work.I don't think this is your first story. I can see a lot of writing experience in this story. I didn't find any mistakes of such but with the very first dialogue,
" "Timmy!", yelled his mother's voice from downstairs."
You should change it as "Timmy! yelled his mother from downstairs" .Other than that,I didn't find any.So I guess I should start watching this cartoon. Seems quite interesting and funny. And you, keep up the good work!!!! It is such a great piece.
Good luck!!!
Cheers!!!! :)

I changed it. Thanks for the review. It's my first fanfic that I've posted on this site. I usually like to do more serious topics, but I always wanted to play with the emotions a little. And yeah, totally watch it if you hadn't before. I'm 16, and believe me, it's impossible to grow out of cartoons. Ya just can't! Thanks for all the nice comments. :) I appreciate it.
