Back to School
Best thing about going back to school? Mr. Neil's field trips. Second day of school, every new semester. The only science class at Silver Creek High to go, and with a teacher who's actually kind of cool, too. Freshman year, it was the Aquarium in August and the Farm in January. Sophomore year? Behind-the-scenes access to the Zoo in August. And Mr. Neil has just informed his class that they will be getting a hands-on tour at a local Science Lab where they do everything from Quantum Mechanics and Cancer Research to Biological studies. Maybe going back to school isn't so bad... Even if it is below freezing outside.
Okay, kids. Right this way...
Exclusive access keycard. Lab coats. Goggles. Heck, someone might mistake these teens as being actual scientists. Every room and area of study is more fascinating than the last. And the most interesting of all? The Biological research. Animal crossbreeds? Cool! Advancements in evolutionary studies that could change the way we see the world? What year is this again? And the coolest part of all? Getting hooked up to that machine that tells the scientists all kinds of stuff about your body. The next big leap in medical technology... or so they were told.
I'm fine... I just feel a little off today.
January is a common time to get the flu. But when every kid in the class starts having odd symptoms, they begin to wonder if it's not just the flu. What did they say that chair does, again?
The reality:
The laboratory agreed to let them do a tour for one very specific reason: they needed lab rats. Their hybrid research had taken a new leap, and they were ready to test it. What if humans could turn into animals? What if they could go back and forth at will? What if there was a way to alter human DNA to have this ability? And what if... they knew exactly how to do that simply by hooking someone up to a chair and releasing a certain kind of radio wave at the same time it injected a serum into their body that would change their DNA... forever.
Bottom Line:
Twelve high school students around the age of fifteen/sixteen go on a field trip to a laboratory where they are unknowingly experimented on with Human/Animal hybrid technology. A few days after the field trip, they all start to come down with strange symptoms. Everyone is a little different, and no one has any idea what's going on. Until one by one, they begin to have the ability to morph into an animal. There is one specific animal they can morph into, and every student has a different animal. Some may be able to control it, some may not. Just as they catch onto the fact that it all started at the laboratory, they find out the laboratory burned down. Maybe they can ask Mr. Neil? Nope. He's gone missing. And the weirdest thing of all? Some of them have felt like they're being followed... But by whom... they have no clue. Anything could happen, and with a sinking feeling there's someone out there who knows a whole lot more than they do, they have to be careful with their every move.
Rules:
Light language is okay, but limit F-words please.
Romance is fine, just not too graphic.
No killing off characters without permission.
You may have up to two characters.
Characters should be between fifteen and seventeen, unless there is a genius kid who is fourteen. Please limit those to one or two.
There can only be one of each animal. One house cat and one tiger is fine, just not two house cats. A dog and a coyote is fine, even two different kinds of birds are fine. Just not the exact same animal.
Try to post at least once a week.
The main events of this storybook are in the present. I will be writing my part in First-Person, but you may write in 3rd if you like.
