Eeeeee I'm so excited!! I loved this NaPo theme, so I'm happy to revisit it, and I've got some new ideas and inspirations because they released the first song for the Lost Boys musical! I'm ecstatic about it. The title is a reference to the song, and I'm pulling in a lot of themes and references from Blood Worth Bottling, which was my NaPoMo theme this year. I'm hoping it'll still be enjoyable even if someone hasn't read all of those though? Hehe, anyways, what better Halloween thing to play with than vampires, am I right?!
We fell asleep with the tv on, like sleepovers with cousins at grandparents’ houses. Reruns are playing, and static fills the air, but there’s a new song ringing out, bared teeth pressed aga- inst a microphone, and the ‘ah’s send my heart racing, but I can’t let it show, no, don’t want to wake the baby (come on, baby, remember me? It was only a lifetime ago we walked this road, baby, only a lifetime ago), and
do you remember how I told you we could bottle this up if we tried? Save this feeling and hide it, just for us, only us, and do you remember all the queer people dying, sacrifices, fangs and violence, and the music is starting up, baby, I can hear the drums violently shaking this rocky home of ours, feel myself getting scthhhh taken over, skin cold, growing older, and I’m just starting to get sober from this addicting feeling of something taking over my being, hyperfixations and internal bleeding to external feeding, consuming and heart beating, and
the song is playing louder now. I can feel it in the floor, thrumming, along with the sound of their voices, humming, and do you remember how I told you that we were worth saving?
It was for moments like these, baby, for moments of celebrating, or falling apart, or behaving wreck- lessly, and the world is ending all around us, so if we have blood, why should we waste it? Drink the good stuff now, baby, there’s no need to save it, and as the streets outside our vampire house flood with our kind screaming, “no more kings,” let’s make the best of the last of our lives, let’s feel alive, let’s start uncorking.

This one is definitely raw and vulnerable and kinda hurt to write. Like, ouch. Hello? I'm a little bit in shock from it actually lol so idk how good it is in reality or if it only twists the knife for me bc I'm actively living it.

I love this collection so much! That pantoum is so nice; I love how you played with changing up words to be italicized or adjusted punctuation so the line could be reused but with a slightly different meaning. And the vulnerability and truth to the emotions in New Blood is so powerful. It feels like experiencing a meaningful slice of someone else's life through a single poem (a slice of your own life, I assume), which I always love to see in someone's writing.

Obsessed with Energy Vampire. I love how if it wasn't part of this collection or didn't have that title, I wouldn't necessarily catch the vampire references. The vampire element is a huge aspect of the poem but it's done tastefully and subtly.
