What is the Writer's Log?

The Writer's Log is a place to track your progress in whatever project you're working on. You can log word counts, time, chapters, scenes, and lines. Start a new project, and then start logging your progress.

Especially useful for National Novel Writing Month in November and for National Poetry Writing Month in April.

Got a Feature Request?

The Writer's Log is itself a project and a work in progress. Let me know what you would find most useful, and I will try implementing it.

How we will use Writer's Log

Very soon, challenges like "Write 5,000 words this month" will be introduced to the site. When that happens, challenges will rely on what you log.

Can it be updated to automatically track progress?

The one feature I can't implement is automatic tracking. I tried, but it soon became way too much. Even just automatically tracking what you post on the site proved to be a huge challenge because there's just too many edge cases to take into account.

Comments / Suggestions

I hope this becomes a vital part of the site, and I really look forward to seeing people using this. As stated, this is a work in progress and how this part of the site evolves is entirely up to you. Let me know how you're using it, and what you'd like to see in it.

Ohh I kinda thought you could set a timer in your writer's log and write and then add how many words you wrote in that time. Kinda like pomodoro but it remembers your starting word count so you only have to enter your new word count? ^^°

(Because my suggestion would have been to start these writing sessions and anyone else could see you writing and join in?)

Building off this, it would also be fun to be able to "word war" with other users - I believe I remember this being a feature years and years ago and it was useful during NovMo.

Interesting @Tikaya and @LadySpark. Adding a timer would be more useful? That's definitely something that can be done.

Re-adding Word Wars and integrating that with Writer's Log is a cool idea. I'll try to make that happen.

@Tikaya and @LadySpark ->> The timer has been added to Writer's Log. Thank you for your feedback!
