The Colossal Merge, or the Big Mute (which stands for mutation in case you didn't catch that), happened about a thousand years ago. The dominant species, humans, started being born with animal traits. It started with teeth, I think. Eventually, human babies were coming out with animal ears and tails too. But I think horns were the most painful to birth. Ouchie. Regardless, the concept of humans sort of doesn't exist anymore. Homo sapiens have been replaced by Homo yivrido. What does that mean? I have no idea. All I know is that we got upgrades. Better hearing, smell, sight, and let's be honest, a superior aesthetic. As for what caused the Big Mute, it's sort of a heavily debated topic. We're currently in the lovely country of Koppis, the most industrialized of the nations. Leandenmoor is the capital, known for its tech and diverse cities. With a temperate climate, no matter what demi you are, you'll probably be comfortable. To the north, we have Vulpyne and its capital Black Pine. Most of the demis up there are built for the snow. Arctic foxes, polar bears, things like that. The mountains are good for mining and the thick forests are good for logging. Just be sure to bundle up if you're not built for the cold. To the west, there's Hoalzinq. Divided by the Saber River, the country is both temperate oak forests and tropical jungles. Clawtooth Valley dominates the western borders, focusing on honey and vineyards. There we have bears, deer, and foxes. Kenhallow in the thick of the jungles, however, is a much more wild place. The animals there live in treehouses and tend to reject industrialization, preferring to live naturally alongside the animals. Due to the humidity, it's mostly home to jaguars, macaws, and chimps. To the far southwest, there's Ospria with its capital, Speckled Shores. Due to the grassy nature, it's best for farmland and ranches for normal animals. The city right along the beach makes it a prime seafood market as well. There you can find elk, pronghorn, and bison. Finally, to the south is Ar'abia. Pure desert. Its capital, Tangled Cobra, specializes in gold, salt, and exotic desert fruits. There's also cobalt mining. Due to being disconnected from Ospria by an offshoot of the Pisces Gulf, trade is expensive and much more difficult. In case you've been living under a rock, society is pretty divided based on your secondary species. Apex predators are the top dogs. They're usually born into wealth since apexes marry apexes. They have the first pick of jobs: politicians, lawyers, doctors, cops. Mesopredators are sort of in the middle ground. Not hated, not beloved. Mesos don't have many limitations, but it's a little harder to go as far as apexes. When it comes to prey, they face a societal sort of condescension. They're seen as tiny, fragile, and naive. They're mostly relegated to teachers, wait staff, service industry. They're too fragile for the big important jobs. And then there's scavengers. Poor scavengers. They're fiercely hated. Seen as disgusting less-than-human creatures that belong only at the recesses of society. They're mostly kept to manual labor, sometimes servitude if a predator is nice. I'd threaten to punch you if you mess with him, but I'm sure he'd say something that would hurt more. His accent just makes it worse. If you want to know the actual politics of things and how much more life sucks when you're a scavenger, he could probably talk at you for a while. I mostly zone out and admire his face. Hopefully you! Even with my good looks and Lev's big brain, it's a little hard to get a whole revolt up and running with just the two of us. We could really use the help. Some diverse help. Lev and I are currently searching for: Healer: Pretty much in the name. We'd like help not dying thanks. It's hard to show up to the hospital when the news is calling you a terrorist. Heavy Gunner: You get to carry the fun guns! Machine guns, Gatling guns. Anything that needs two hands and three yards of ammo. (Please teach me how to use one without breaking my arms.) Light Gunner: You're in my camp. Pistols, assault rifles. Quick to reload and quick to move. Stealth Master: Look, as fun as it is to go in guns blazing, it's unfortunately not always the answer. We need someone who can sneak into places and escape unseen. Or just kill everyone before they can be seen. I'll accept that too. Though, Lev seems less impressed. Black Market Specialist: We need guns and ammo. And we need someone who knows how to get them to us. Legally obtaining them is going to be hard, so the black market is our best bet. So, we need someone who knows how to operate it. Strategist: As brilliant as Lev is, he's only one man. Some help for the poor sod would do us all some good. Gathering dirt, spying on people, and making plans. Just try to keep him too busy to yell at me, will you? Tech Specialist: We all know the world's very techy. Security cameras are everywhere. Every politician is bugged. If we want to not get our base found after our first mission, someone needs to wipe up our trail. We could also use someone who can hack into security systems, databases, and personal files. Basically cyber breaking and entering with a dash of hot goss. Demolition Expert: Bombs and cool explosions are your forte. You're about to become my favorite person. Second favorite person. We need to break walls, and make statements, and we need someone who can handle explosives without killing us all. (And please please let me watch.) Public Face: The core thing that separates terrorists from revolutionaries is the marketing. The number of civilian causalities too, but also marketing. We need someone who has a good public image to defend us, to use their fancy connections to get us fancy places. A sweet talker.

She could technically be adopted by a mesopredator but it would be rare. However, she could not be officially adopted by a scavenger. Scavengers do not have that right.
