Since I did it last year, we're going to do it again. and again. and again. and again.

2016
You are like a blacksmith's hammer, you always forge people's happiness until the coal heating up the forge turns to ash. Then you just refuel it and start over. -Persistence (2015)

You have so much potential and love bursting in you. -Omnom

poem #1

we hold the key to
our own perpetuity
even if just temporarily,
for our pursuit is dry,
it is cold-
it brings us pain
for even in success we
fail.
You are like a blacksmith's hammer, you always forge people's happiness until the coal heating up the forge turns to ash. Then you just refuel it and start over. -Persistence (2015)

poem #2

the promises you've kept were
fragile--museum art kept
inside glass cases and
people observed, pointing
judging and
stressing the importance of
do not touch, darling because
art breaks or
loses value after being
dealt with.

poem #3

the story stands as a memory
but not as a regret
because in retrospect
it wasn't ever about respect
or the neglect of each other,
the lack of rations for the general masses
it was about what we deserved
and in the grand scheme,
life seemed to decide that we deserved it.

poem #4

the elegant girl doesn't belong here
they whisper as
it travels down the winding
brick road. it stops-
the royal family doesn't need her
and continues--
little girl with head so
low and peering deep
into death's eye, for
your life begins after
the road
slowly
cuts
off.

poem #5

we sat drinking
lemonade by the tv set,
static touching our fingertips as
the newscaster promised storms for
tonight. the lemonade we drank
stained our mouths, the sour stench traveled
to our hearts as we spoke in
hushed tones about the
our future and how you held my hand-
our lemonade was growing
warm as flies flew over it like
nightmares during the summer.
i traced your face
with my fingertips, deep into
your happiness and sadness-
you were the thick blue and green
smeared across the
black canvas and i
was the future you
promised to create.

poem #6

in many ways,
you were the evening light that
slowly died away and
came back in the beautiful
morning sunlight where you
held me in your arms. unsure and alone,
we fell under the tide of love until
it pushed us out as the moon sank higher into the
void known as fear.
You are like a blacksmith's hammer, you always forge people's happiness until the coal heating up the forge turns to ash. Then you just refuel it and start over. -Persistence (2015)

Steggy, that poem about lemonade was so good -- I feel like I've written the same song with different words, so it was very familiar and very sweet to read.
you can message me with anything: questions, review requests, rants
are you a green room knight yet?
have you read this week's Squills?

poem #7

your love letters never reached my house. i threw them out along with my strings you tied around my back, chocking my last breath. i hung your smile over the burning fire and watched it blackened, paper wings that meant nothing but to fly. your roses died in the gasoline chamber of your car. your marble arms hung with poisoned roses that i picked and along the way they crumbled; even the roman empire didn't last long

poem #8

we took a spaceship and
flew until morning where peter pan
waited. he promised us, a better life where
the old walls would crumble and
we would be alright. captain hook still
haunts my memories.
peeling grey paint stains our fingers
as we scream in the night. you were gone by sunrise with
wendy and the boys while i fooled around with tinker bell and
her "perfect looks" (stained red lipstick smeared across the mirror and
black teardrops fall down her face).
peter pan told me "just think happy thoughts and fly";
i found "happy thoughts" in all the cars that passed by my window as i
flew to neverland in hopes to find you.

poem #9

in the morning mist, you dance around in
a pink and yellow sunrise with the calls of
all the birds. they're flirting with your moves but
you don't care. your eyes flicker upwards at the ceiling as
the wind blows and the sky seems to be a bit bluer;
i love you as much as the flowers love the sun
forever and always

but you forgot about "forever and always" as
the sky lost color and the sun dulled and
how i remembered your smile being
as bright as the sunrise you last danced to;
the birds haven't sung in a couple of days and i was wondering
if you wanted to dance one more time.

poem #10

the neon blue lights are
burning up the air as we huddle close together,
cigarette smoke spins and spins and i follow,
a french ballerina at her prime. your leather jacket is stuck to my skin
as you press your fingers deep into my veins and-

the darkness wraps a cloth around my neck and
the light feels close. i reach out to the fading neon lights and
called your name but your brain went to voicemail. the red lights
echoed across my brain, becoming my new home.
my tongue is cut off from the world,
served on a hot plate for a hungry man and
his pathetic wife, who smiles with pain in her cheap cheekbones and
thick bloody lips.

your fingernails dung into my skin and
i was left with the tattoos of your past and my
future.

poem #11

will you forgive me
for the things i did
before i met you?
if i knew what i hid
would destroy my identity,
my ego is trashed
don't worry i smashed it
because i know you did too-
i don't know what to do
but ask you to be
with me for eternity.

poem #12

sew

bring together people and
have them spend the rest of their lives, hearts
stuck together. a four year old can superglue a
paper heart better than you can.
she spends her
nights in the shower, the stitches coming undone and
he spends the night drinking away his problems with
different stitches, crossed out and shut tight.

stitch

mending the wounds, she sticks the needle
deeper into her heart and pulls back. ragdolls sit on
shelves and they wish to be like her. they feel pain by the cages that
surround them, red and yellow string holding their eyes.
he sits
in the front of the mirror, water running. the reflection holds needles
evilly smiling. the past creeps up, vomit on the floor.

cut

she waits outside in the cold, snow falling. wearing a white dress, she
spends the evening with matches. her heart contains mistakes, threw against
the wall like a dirty mutt. her head is a boat, tipping underneath all the
pressure before it disappears.
he watches the cars past by, their headlights
flicker against the cold rain. mocking his chance to escape.

pull

bring together two people who are
perfect and happy. watch their hearts tear at the
seams and
come undone from the future together. she looks at the stars
while he looks at the ground with shaking hands. fireflies die
after the storm passes.
he pulls at the strings a little harder
as she is sent flying, across the stage with a pained grin and
wishes to be free.

repeat
