little basket star
Epigram (inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge)

(Morayna’s father’s point of view)

little basket star your funny spots,
that brings joy to many dots,
calm breeze and sleepy flowerheads,
spinning silver threads.

Hi Nadya! This is a cool idea for a thread :D I really like the combination of space and light imagery that lends a fantastical atmosphere to the poems.

leave it all behind

I need guidance, I need light, more flowers blooming deeply in the dark to find, leave it all behind,

I love the metaphor of "flowers blooming deeply in the dark". It's very evocative of things like hope and innocence and emotion, which seems to be what Morayna is yearning for while saddled with this heavy responsibility. Yet the grouping of the flowers with "guidance" and "light" also suggests looking for a person to help her or some insight on what to do is just as sought-after as freedom for her.

little basket star

I like the whimsy of this poem! It feels very much like the words of an affectionate, doting parent who still sees their child as well, a child, even though she is a queen.

@NadyaStatham - wow! You are trying some really fun forms in here - love love love the Villanelle (those are so tricky, and you did a great job keeping variety within it) and the Gazhal was also really neat to read!

A few favorite lines...

As you love stars, you forget,
It is the night that makes them burn so bright.

Lying in the darkness, watching, waiting for you,
These are a few of my favorite things

The day of peace’s demise
the moon is nearly atilt

And excellent use of recurring imagery of stars / light / questions throughout!
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Frailness is like a sun-burn
Free verse (inspired by Brother - Kodaline)

(Taurus’s point of view)

Before Archer got frail, i was the one
The prince, oh yeah, i ruled the palace,
i commanded the stars, constellations, no regrets
Wish i could relive every single word

Before Hunter was sent to war, i was the one
The crown prince, oh yeah, i ruled Venuptra,
i commanded the venuptrians, the aquarians, no regrets
Wish i could relive every single word

While Archer was frail, i was the one
The prince, oh yeah, i ruled the family,
i was my mother’s son, not my father’s yet, no regrets,
Wish i would relive every single word

While Hunter was at war, i was the one
The prince, oh yeah, i ruled it all,
or so i had tried, or so i had hoped, only regrets,
Wish i would relive nothing anymore

As i was set to be the next one in line,
The king, oh yeah, i had thought so,
only to hear him say; “it can never be you.
anyone but…” he didn’t finish. but i knew

Wish i would just disappear

Buttercup
Free verse

(Morayna’s father’s point of view)

tell me dear child
What disturbs your mind
your kingdom awaits you
your eyes betray you
for there are many things
it’s the melody of paramour that sings
my buttercup i should’ve known better,
than to think otherwise, of course time is latter,
your sparkling eyes say it all, my little queen of Zephyr,
you are in need of someone, who will stay with you forever

Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.
