DDDDDD: How do I only have 12?! I wanted the hearty halfway ;-; Ok, ok, three more crappy ones incoming, let's goooo...
the game of life i used to think that life is a puzzle, a jumble of pieces in all shapes and sizes that i just had to figure out how to fit together -- then i'd see what picture i'm meant to be.
but now existing feels more like Jenga: my life a tower of precariousness as i cautiously make each move and wait for it to all come crashing down on me.

emo uno who could have ever guessed that the older i become the more i would begin to relate to childrens' games? what used to seem like nothing more than fanciful whimsy now reflects a bitter reality i can't just put away.
my cards used to be in perfect order -- ready any moment the tide turned my color. but i've hit blocks i never saw coming and my plans got all reversed; and now i'm left with my hands full, as this burden drags me even further from where i want to be.

Hi there! I know I have also failed at being a buddy and commenting more often. But these are all so good! "pieces of my brokenness" is a standout: here I feel like the formatting fits the poem well. As for "unintelligible memorandums", it's really hard to read (I mean I know I need new glasses but still), but that last stanza...I'm in this poem and I don't like it. I also like "code of my regret" and "best regards" and "no rest for the imposters". Hopefully you have one more poem left in you to get to Hearty Halfway, but if not, congrats on getting out some excellent science-angst poetry. I do hope things get better for you. <3

@niteowl Thanks so much for the kind words! ^-^ I fully agree with the unintelligible memorandums one... IN MY DEFENSE it's legible in my document xD The formatting just got all funky when I uploaded it and I was too lazy to fix it lol But I'm glad you enjoyed! ^^

i wish that my mind was as easy to wash as my shoulder or my hair -- that the burning water from my showerhead didn't stop at my scalp.
i stand with my face upturned into the stream (the jets so strong they sting) and focus on the droplets that drip from my chin to join the others on the way to the drain.
the steam that makes the air around me feel as thick and heavy as my reality, and the water roars in my mind as I angle my head.
for the briefest moment i allow myself to be present in the moment: warm and clean and refreshed. but then i turn the faucet off and am left alone once more in my own loneliness, watching the last of the water drip from the spout then disappear down the drain like the bit of hope i still cling to.
i push the curtain to the side and look in the mirror (revealing everything i wish i never was) and see the face now acceptable to reveal to the world. but the actual filth lies much deeper than i can reach and the slime on my brain isn't something i can scrub away; the darkness must stay as i dry my face and style my hair (the only beautiful part of me) then step out into the world -- for once, glad for my mask so i don't have to muster a smile i don't mean.
