Oliver Hemingway
I had this bracelet. People have seen it everyday. But they didn't know what it meant to me. It was very important and I never lived a day without it. It was always there, dangling on my right wrist.
The history of this bracelet wasn't as complex as you would believe. I got it from a river. When I was around five year of age, I ran away from home. My parents were getting a divorce and I couldn't handle the despair. I believed if they were married, they should love each other for eternity. So, in my sadness, I ran away. I managed to hop on a bus to a city not too far away from Bath and when we stopped over, I found myself walk down a river bank.
A few people were walking around, since it was a cold October day, not a lot were out. And not only that, it was raining. But I felt lost, useless, and loss of belief, that I didn't care. As I walked, I saw something shine in the edge of the river. For a five year old, it was something pretty. I walked over and picked the shiny object up. It was a metal bracelet. The words A Drop In The Ocean was scrawled in neat cursive. I thought it was beautiful. The bracelet was too big, but I kept it in my pocket. As I grew, I had the bracelet always near, if it was in my backpack, or my pockets. Then later, I grew enough and it fit my arm. I believed though words meant we were just a drop in the ocean, so small and meaningless but also a big impact on how the world works and we could make everything better. I thought that this bracelet was a sign, of new hope. So I always wore it.
I didn't want to break - up with Kristin. That was... not even a suggestion. I was in love with her. She was my ocean, and I was the drop in it.
I just sorta have unfinished business with Lacey. Our relationship and breakup was too quick and rushed. But, it's hard not to like Lacey. She's a character that you just want to know. She attracts.
The best thing for me to do now was take a break. I had my bags packed and my ticket printed. With a deep breathe, I made my way way out of the apartment and to the taxi.
England, I'm coming home.
