The Best Awards of 2012 have come to a close!

Before we share the results, let’s take a little look at the YWS Hall-Of-Fame, shall we?

The YWS Best Awards were first held in the year 2005 after YWS had had its first year. Who knew that it would be a recurring tradition on YWS? Many of our long-time members set the stage for years to come, but many stars later on still managed . Nate followed Firestarter’s footsteps for 2006, and Emerson kept it rolling for 2007. Later on, 2009 also held its Best Awards, making up for 2008’s absence; and though 2010 may not have seen its awards either, Big Brother picked them right back up in 2011.

Each and every year, the choices have been difficult for all voters and judges involved, but they were always meant a great honor to our members. YWS is a successful website, achieving its mission in gathering young writers all over the world to better their craft and make new friends in the process. Being recognized by your peers is something of great value, and the winners deserve the honor they’re about to receive.

As we name 2012’s award-winning members, keep in mind the past winners as well, and one day, you might find your name on this hall-of-fame, too!

----

Best Overall Member -- Rydia

The Young Writers Society includes an incredible amount of activities and opportunities for our members, and the site continues to gain more and more fans as it continues to grow into a beloved community. Rydia has proven to be the most reliable mentor for members new and old while also enjoying the blessings YWS has to offer. With a desire to make YWS the best place it can be, she always holds such strong enthusiasm and love for our dearest site, working her hardest to spread the excitement to others. Congratulations, Rydia! The members of YWS chose you for this honor.

Funniest Member -- Charlie II, Lumi

Humor is power! Or something to that effect. Charlie II and Lumi have both made us rofl so hard, we’re not sure what happened to us when we can finally breathe again (and some of us just stop breathing). YWS is all about having fun, and our boys excel at it! If you want a laugh, just chat with one of these gentlemen. They’re sure to crack a smile if not a rib.

Most Helpful Member/Friendliest Member -- GeeLyria

YWS is a large website filled with many activities to enjoy while also providing many opportunities for us as writers. It can get pretty overwhelming when you’re not sure where to even start! However, GeeLyria is 2012’s welcome mat. She’ll invite you in with open arms, love you ‘til you’re blue, then love you some more. She’s always willing to point you in the right direction and just wants to see you again tomorrow. If you need a friend or a smile, be sure to give her a call!

Spam Master (a.k.a. Most Overly Active Member) -- TheLuckyTurtle

The YWS is well-known for its large and friendly community, and posting is a significant part of this aspect. TheLuckyTurtle knows how it’s done, though. Lurking around the forums, you’ll find many, many posts by our little reptile. This crazy activity is what keeps the community alive -- even if it is a bit insane. Don’t be afraid if you see TheLuckyTurtle somewhere around. Just expect a lot of posts!

Best Reviewer of Prose -- Kyllorac

Prose is a lot more difficult than many young writers believe, but Kyllorac knows what’s up. If you need a review, she’s more than willing to share his knowledge and help you improve. You’ll find she gives incredible insight on style, theme, tone, grammar -- whatever you may need looked at. He will always give you [un]timely reviews upon request, but you may also receive a surprise review from her! Kyllorac’s a dedicated reviewer on YWS, and this award is well-deserved.

Best Reviewer of Poetry -- Hannah

Poetry is its own unique form of writing, and it requires just as specialized a reviewer as prose. Hannah has proven to be a most reliable reviewer when it comes to poetry. She has great insight on the subject, and she is always more than willing to help members to better their craft. Her enthusiasm on the topic is admirable to us all. If you have a question about your poem or poetry in general, hit her up! She is here for you and never lets her peers down.

Best Poet -- Persy

YWS has always had its fair share of well-versed poets, and if there’s one member who represents the skill we have here, it’s Persy. Her talent has brought all sorts of emotions to our memberbase, and she never ceases to amaze us. She continues to write no matter what and only ever seems to get better. Congratulations, Persy! You have a gift we absolutely enjoy and hope you continue to share in years to come.

Best Writer -- UNDECIDED

This was hardly a shock upon counting up the results, but it did happen. Each and every entrant sent in a different name, but that only tells us that YWS is full of wonderful, admirable writers who we can all look up to. Don’t you ever be discouraged with your writing; it is a gift everyone shares, and each individual here can succeed in their writing dreams with a little perseverance and a lot of encouragement. Congratulations to the entirety of YWS, and keep writing!

Best Debater -- Snoink

If there’s one person the members look to for debate tips, it’s Snoink. She presents her ideas enthusiastically, eager to discuss the topics at hand. Sources are her best friend, always searching for reliable references to share, and she constantly encourages discussion to continue progress. If you’re ever interested in debates, be sure to chat with Snoink. She’s your pig!

Best Lyricist -- alfredysmon

Everyone loves music, and many musicians wish to just write their own! Good song lyrics are difficult to come by, but once inspired -- whether by music or muse -- it comes to the paper with ease. This is definitely true for alfredysmon. His style of lyrics, as proven with his holiday collection, is absolutely enjoyable to read, and everyone is now anxious to see more from him. Keep writing for us, alfredysmon!

Best Artist -- xXTheBlackSheepXx, Nikko

Even though YWS is a site geared for writers, a great number of us turn out to be beautiful artists as well. This year, two of us received an even number of votes, and no one can argue against their talent. Their work constantly pleases us whenever we see it, and they truly have more gifts than just writing. From xXTheBlackSheepXx’s watercolor to Nikko’s photography, there’s bound to be something you’ll love. Give our multi-talented winners a round of applause. We admire your keen eyes and creative minds!

Best Scriptwriter -- UNDECIDED

Prose writers aren’t the only popular category on our site now. Scripts is a growing part of our website, and each vote sent in was different from the next. This just goes to show that script-writing, while very different from an outside perspective, is completely fun to write no matter what style you choose. If you write scripts, you have a gift that many users admire, and we all ask you to keep writing for us!

Best Storybooker -- LouisCypher

Storybooking has grown to become a huge part of YWS to the point of bringing about this category last year, and though the standards were set high, LouisCypher shows an incredible amount of enthusiasm. The members of YWS are constantly blown away by the excitement and incredible activity he has to offer, and he only continues to encourage growth in that section. Congratulations, LouisCypher, on displaying fantastic activity and admirable dedication in YWS’ storybook section.

Best Moderator -- Rydia

The YWS moderating staff works very hard every year to make YWS the place it is, and in the year 2012, there was no moderator better than Rydia. Not only does she try to make YWS the best place it can be, but she’s constantly active around the site. She is friendly, helpful, and reliable, making all members -- new and old -- feel right at home. She sticks with us no matter what happens, and this captain will only ever go down with her ship -- and that ship’s not going down on her watch. Thank you, Rydia, for your hard work on YWS, and we hope you continue to stay with us in years to come.

Best Story --

Best Poem --

Best Storybook --

    Another Claim by Rosey Unicorn
    YWS Fleet by Griffinkeeper
    The Wonderland Rift by ERANBEAR
Truce of the Elements by Rosey Unicorn

Storybooks are just as big of a part on YWS as prose and poetry, and each storybook nominated deserved the spotlight. Not one out-voted the rest because they were all enjoyable for both readers and participants. Well done to all above storybook moderators: You led memorable storybooks that our members will always remember.

Best Off-Topic Topic --YWS Screencaps

Run into a silly coincidence? Perhaps a funny circumstance? Or maybe a memorable moment that should last forever! Whatever it is, YWS Screencaps is the thread where members share their most exciting experiences on YWS for everyone to enjoy. If you need a laugh or just a smile, you’re sure to find some memories hidden away in this gem. Take a break from writing and take a peek!

Best Blog -- Nate, Via

The blogs section has many viewers and procrastinators hiding away from their work, but it’s popular nonetheless. Both Nate and Via have received an equal number of votes due to the excitement tucked away in their blogs. Nate’s notes on YWS as well as his juicy personal life is always a joy to read, while Via’s blog is just filled with baby-on-the-way news! Whichever you have interest in, they both were outstanding blogs to read in 2012. Tell us more, you two!

Best Avatar -- Sachiko

Your avatar is your face on YWS, and Sachiko’s face was elected the best. Take that as you will, but Sachiko has a memorable avatar that makes everyone smile or giggle or spastically squeal Supernatural fandom glory. Yay, Sachiko! And always remember to salt and burn the bones!

Congratulations to all our winners, and keep writing!

I find the irony in TheLuckyTurtle being nominated since she left recently to deal with personal life things.

First, congratulations to all of the winners! These are very well deserved rewards and you should all be very proud of yourselves!

That said, thank you. It means a crazy lot to me that I won both of those categories and I don't know what to say, except perhaps... sailing storybook anyone?
