Alright, don't blame me. But I had no idea where else to post this. Admins, feel free to move this post somewhere else as you deem fit.

Alright, so, I realize this problem in YWS. Reviewing. Yes I know there are many active reviewers and there's also the Will Review For Food thread. But the number of submitted works outnumber the number of reviews given per day by quite a bit. Most works, I'm talking novels, short stories, fan fiction. These do not get many reviews. On average, they get one, after a few days. And only because of WRFW. Poetry on the other hand, gets far more reviews per piece of submission.

We all know feedback is important, and valued. There's also the point system, which forces people to review works before they can post their work. It helps, but if you look at the green room, some works are left there for a week, with no one reviewing them.

And yes, I admit some reviewers get turned off, seeing long works, and whole chunks of text without any proper spacing. However there are some good works out there, but they get one review only, maybe if the author gets lucky, 2 or 3 more, and that's it.

I know it's taking me awhile to get to the actual point, but I just wanted to back up my opinions. What I'm suggesting is, a group of reviewers, to be in charge of reviewing work that has NOT been reviewed for more than 5 days. I'm giving an allowance here. Not wanting to force anyone here, but it's for the benefit of everyone. You get your review counts up, you get points to submit your next piece of work. And the one being reviewed gets feedback. It benefits both parties.

So I'm just asking, what do you guys think? Good or bad? Achievable or not? And also, any volunteers? (I could be one of them)

Cheers, Lycando! :D

I said this in chat, but yeah, I'll try to help.

Not sure what I'd be reviewing for, lemme try and get this straight:

an appointed individual will point us to a work that hasn't gotten the required reviews then we'd swarm to that work and review it? The point being if this gathers around 10 or so members, that the author will get 10 or so reviews and everyone will be happy?

If so, I'm down :)

If not, feel free to inform me again!

I'm very, very new here, but if you'll have me I'd participate in such a committee.

@HorriBliss Nope, not what I had in mind. I'm saying this, if this really happens. Then the reviewing committee will go searching for works which haven't been reviewed in at least 5 days, and review them. It may garner at most up to 2 or 3 reviews, but it's better than none. Not asking 10 people to swarm to a particular work and start a review craze. Definitely not.

And thanks for the support for this idea! :) Although if it'll actually happen, I'm not sure. Hopefully Nate see's this though.

Lol this is pretty old but thanks anyway XD I don't know if anything like this may happen in the near future though, seeing as review counts are going up!

But I'm talking in depth reviews here. Those that review nearly every aspect of the story and not just as a whole.

In depth reviews will always be lower than the general reviews, since they take longer to do! However, an in depth review can be just... awesome.

Too bad they take so much time! @_@

Sounds like the purps of old. We used to have 'reviewers' and 'greeters', who specialised in reviewing, and uh...greeting respectively. You had to apply/be nominated to get in, and there were site-wide competition between the 'purps' and the 'blues'.

I miss my purple uniform.

That's the point of this committee! :) To review stories, but the reviews have to be good! Not the usual "I really liked this story" and stuff. But really critiquing the piece and maybe even picking it to pieces.

Sounds very much like the purps, then. We often had members of our group writing four page reviews. I used to write medium length ones for the group, and they were still 2-3 pages long a lot of the time.
