"I never had any doubts about my abilities. I knew I could write. I just had to figure out how to eat while doing this."
- Cormac McCarthy

Upcoming Events

Spoiler
Check back later for upcoming events. Right now there's nothing to announce.

Welcome To 2013

The new year is here, and it's time to get started. All you have to do is write five thousand words a month and you'll have fifty thousand words by the end of the year! No biggie. That leaves you time to outline, plot, and actually live real life.

Sounds like a cakewalk, huh?

The Drive

Spoiler
Well, let me tell you, it isn't. There are many setbacks to novel writing. Sometimes you won't have time, sometimes you won't have drive, and sometimes you'll just want to quit writing altogether. That happens, it's part of the process, but when our powers Combine, we can summon Captain Planet!

Errr....
Wait...
No we can't.

But! We can work together to finish the year with a neat, clean, functional novel. As promised last time, there will be figurative cake, sundaes, and confetti! Not to mention a brand new novel by none other than YOU!

So are you up for it? Let's start planning!

The Plan

Spoiler
Okay guys, for this year, I intend to write my story in four phases.

Phase One

January-March is the outlining and idea phase.

Phase Two

March-May will be the rough drafting phase.

Phase Three

June-August will be the second draft phase.

Phase Four

Phase four will be clean up, and a grand attempt at publishing!

Now bear in mind, this is just my plan. You can try something different.

I have some other things in the works for FinishThis, I'll do my best to announce them by the twentieth. But, just as a little teaser, I'll go ahead and say there will be a Twitter feed, badges, and a certificate. This thread is for ideas, planning, and suggestions, so please post whatever ideas you have, no matter how crazy it may be!

I think I'll join in this again. I'll do my best to see it to completion. I need to jump in and start writing things already.

I'm totally in. I have half of a draft that I desperately need to finish and edit and all that jazz. Surely I can do something with it in 365 days.

Okay guys, here's the plan. Tomorrow, I should have the Twitter account up. Badges are going to be tough, because I'm no artist. If anyone wants to help with that, feel free to PM/post below. The certificates will be ready by Friday. There will be three. Novelist, Brave Novelist, and Astounding Novelist. All three are great! The only difference is 'Novelist' is awarded for finishing your novel, 'Brave Novelist' is for sending you novel in to a publisher, whether accepted or not, and 'Astounding Novelist' is for writing a full on novelist, and making it available for sale, whether on Amazon as an eBook, or through a publishing firm or whatever.

Also planned, workshops. I'm hoping I can get someone with a functioning brain/a published writer to help with this. I want to have one for creative thinking, one for conquering writer's block, one for outlining, and at least a couple for fiction writing in general.

I can handle one for outlining and creative thinking, but I would like help with the fiction writing workshop and one big one. A workshop for getting your book published. We'll go over what it takes to get published, as well as getting over the fear of rejection.

Until then, just to drum up some activity, let's use the #FinishThis2013 tag to share our novel ideas and inspirational quotes! Until next time, and Merry Christmas!

Okay! Twitter account is up!

Blues, I'd be very grateful. There is also now officially a contest! Feel free to join! (Semi-officially...)

This contest is open to anyone. The rules are as follows.

Create a 100x100 .JPEG image commemorating a writing achievement, such as fifty thousand words finished, or first draft finished. The winner will have their badge featured as an official badge, and the runner ups may have their badge selected for use. First place is five reviews of any selected work, and chosen runner ups will get a review!

Entries are due by January sometimeish. Please take your time, you're doing us all a service and we will all be grateful.

As far as news goes, that's it for now, methinks. Be sure to follow the "movement" on twitter! :D

Awesome!

Alright guys! The New Year is coming, who's ready to Finish This? What stories are you guys telling? I'll start.

My story is a mystery? in a small town. It follows a former heart surgeon and a writer in the area. Both are hired to find out who murdered the only child of an heir-less man, thirty years ago... Naturally, the story leads them down avenues they never expected, including uncovering a plot by some locals to keep a gold vein secret.

This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
— Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
