Would it be possible to consider short story collections? Like, I'd want to work on a bunch of short stories that don't comprise a novel, but still hang out with y'all~

My story is a novel following five low lifes from Bristol who all get on the same bus and decide to set up a mercenary group. They later take Paris back from an invasion by a Welsh warlord called Gavin.

Spoiler
It's a comedy.

That's a great idea Hannah! Really, it doesn't have to be a novel at all. It can be a poetry collection, a children's book, whatever. As long as you are writing and possibly attempting to publish something!

That sounds awesome Ben! I would read that in a heart beat!

Mine is in short, the Hunger Games, Hercules and Ancient Egypt all rolled into one. (Unruly Gods and the modern world are also featured in this)

I'm planning on getting the GMail account up and running tomorrow. Also, I'm getting a workshop on outlining ready, I would like to have it on a Saturday, but not the 26 because I'll be out of town. What are some good Saturdays for you guys?

Okay guys! First, I've changed my story idea. I'll talk more about it once it's fleshed out.

Second, a few thing about goal setting!

When you set goals, be SMART.

Specific

Example: I want to make ten dollars in tips at work tomorrow.

Bad Example: I want to make more money.

When you set goals it's important to be specific. You should have specific criteria for you goal, for example, I want to finish a fifteen plot point outline for my novel, rather than, I want an outline that will carry fifteen chapters of story. The reason the first one is better is because the goals is specific, we don't always know how many chapters an outline will carry, but we do know how many plot points it will.

Measurable

A goal should be measurable, so that you have a sense of how much effort it will take to accomplish your goal, and how long it might take. 'I want to finish a fifteen plot point outline.' is better than, 'I want to finish an outline.' An outline can be fifteen points, or five points, or five hundred points, we need to be specific so we can predict an outcome.

Attainable

Don't set your goals too lofty. You don't want to set yourself up for failure, but you don't want to make your goal to easy. 'I want to start outlining.' is not a good goal. 'I want to finish a perfect outline by tomorrow.' is even worse. However, 'I want to finish an outline by the end of the month.' Is probably about right, depending on your schedule and what not.

Relevant

A goal has to be worth your time and effort. Is this goal relevant to you? Is now the time to begin, or would it be best to plan some more? Yeah... um... relevancy.

Time-Bound

Some people say they don't like deadlines, but the truth is, deadlines are a part of life. No matter what job you have, where you have it, or why you have it, you will have deadlines. I teach taekwondo, and I assumed I would never have to worry about deadlines in my life. Nope, wrong. I have to teach kids their form and have them decent at it within testing and tournament cycles.

So time-bound goals give you some pressure, and they let you map out your plan. My SMART goal for this month is to have a basic story outline with twenty-five points. What's yours?

Oh, I'm so in ;) Want to finish The King, which I'm working on. Posted the prologue here a few days ago. It's a mystery/thriller/horror story and I still haven't figured out who the killer is xD

Great Alv! That sounds pretty awesome, I'll have to check the prologue out!

Hannah, it's looking good! I have some graphics I made for the Twitter page I can send you, but I'm not the best when it comes to graphics, so if we come up with something better, great!

I would like for the outlining workshop to be on the 12, it can't be on the 26. We can do it on my Writer Freepad. So far, the plan is we will outline a chapter from our story and talk some about the basics of outlining. If anyone has some specific subjects they'd like to touch on, please share! So far I don't have much of a plan going on, but it's all coming together.
