"Can I see you for a minute?" I asked him, I swore I saw him blush. "I just wanna say thank you, y'know for distracting the zombies earlier" I told him.

"It's fine, that was really brave out there - going alone" He said, I bit my lip - suddenly remembering he was topless. "Something wrong?" He asked me.

"No - I've just never really had a boy topless in front of me before..." I murmered, the red blood rushing straight to my face. Desmond chuckled. "I'll see you around, if you need me I'll be in the art department" I said, trying to get out before embarassing myself anymore. I patted him awkwardly on the shoulder again, before turning away and walking off.

Jesus, I felt like a giggling ten year old girl again.

(It's short, I'll make a longer post when something happens!)

Rick's POV:

I continued into the only spot I felt safe in the school to lie down and try and get a nap. I went into the tech. Department and just laid on the ground. I wasn't hungry, no surprise there. Having to kill your undead parents and BF will do that to you. I just lied there and tried to clear my thoughts. With that not working, I eventually decided to just sit there and meditate, an old technique I learned to cope with stress. Just as I began to doze off, someone from the group woke me up.

Anyone can step in here to be that random character. I am leaving this spot open for someone to interact with Rick.

There were so many...

Before I know it, everything is over and everyone's spreading out in their own directions. Exhausted, I sling my bow over my shoulders and head down to one of the tech departments to repair an arrow that I managed to salvage. Just as I walk in, I find Rick lying on the floor asleep. Freezing in the doorway, I debate continuing inside or finding somewhere else.

With a sigh, I set my bow down and crouch before him, deciding to at least have some conversation. Besides, I want to know how he managed to do everything he did. Shaking him slightly, I call his name and wait for him to wake.

"Sorry," I apologize once his eyes open. "Can't blame me for wanting someone to talk to and watch my back after everything that happened..."

Rick's POV:

"Its no problem," I respond, "I was only meditating. The situation here is crazy. I just wish that the situation was better here. How's everyone else doing?" I ask. The problem with the zombies wasn't their ravenous hunger, but the fact that they can be people you once loved. There lies the true horror from the zombie apocalypse.

"Everyone seems to be find," Ryder tells me. Its good to know everyone's okay. "So why the Tech lab?" asks Ryder.

"I chose the Tech lab cause computers used to be my hobby. I liked to experiment with coding to see what crazy stuff I could do with it. The amazing thing is, you can even hack into the pentagon with a simple 3 letter change in a code. All that aside, its quiet up here." I was now wondering why he was up here, as the low amount of electricity and the internet permanently down posed no reason for even me to be up here long. "So why did you come up here?" I ask sincerely.

I pull out my bow and quiver and show him the broken arrow.

"I was thinking of taking a wire out of one of the computers and using the copper inside to repair it," I say, sitting in front of him. "I only have so many, so I need to keep the ones I have in the best condition."

He nods, and I hesitate before bringing up the next part. I study him and wait for the right moment.

"What happened up there anyway?" I ask. "How did that witch get inside in the first place? Everything was secure earlier..."

Desmond walked off and I made a mental note to get back to him on those bandages. Common infection was a silly problem to have during this time. I walked over to Freya and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Come on, girlie, inspection time. Doctors orders."

I smiled at her and led her gently to my unofficial examination table.

"Remind me to bleach this before anyone eats on it again."

I held her chin in my hands and tilted her head back, wiping blood away from her neck. "I saw you fighting out there," I said, trying to make small talk to cover up the fact I was close to invading her personal space. "You're a tough one, that's good. I'm worried about some of our team. I'm probably going to open up my own training center one of these days," I laughed and stepped back, quickly wiping my hands clean. "Alright, shirt off. Sorry, it's neccesary, you've got a few cuts through it and I want to make sure none of them are from teeth."

This. Place. Is. Killing. Me. There's no one I can talk to. Nothing to do AT ALL. Maybe I should do what Freya did and go in search for supplies. I bet that I could really help if i made it all the way to my house and got some of the emegeny canned food and stuff that dad always kept just in case of a hurricane or something. I look back and forth and consider going now. I mean now is as good a time as ever and it wouldn't be that hard to run out and get it done quickly and quietly. And by the time I get back everyone will be asleep and it'll spare me the screaming from Desmond i'll probably get.

"Okay guy's" I say loudly " I'm just gonna go sleep in classroom 2-B for the night. See ypu all in the morning!" I say quickly then rush out the doors before anyone could say anything. Before I leave, i make sure to leave a quick note on the teachers desk saying what i'm doing and where i'm going. Nobody will even notice that i'm gone which will actually be a good thing for once. I make sure to strap my bag extre tight around my shoulders and then quickly and quietly venture out the exit doors of the school. My house is about a mile from here so it'll be a bit of a jog. I put my headphones in and commence jogging through the darkness.

"I just wanna say thank you, y'know for distracting the zombies earlier," she said with a small smile.

"It's fine, that was really brave out there- going alone," I said awkwardly, returning the small.

She opened her mouth to say something, but stopped and bit her lip.

"Something wrong?"

She hesitated, beginning to blush. "No- I've just never really had a boy topless in front of me," she murmured, staring at my chest.

I couldn't help but chuckle. She was so cute and innocent.

She shook her head, blushing quite a bit. "I'll see you around, if you need me I'll be in the art department," she said, patting me on the shoulder before leaving.

I smiled as I watched her go. While I lost my temper easily with the others, I definitely found it hard to get angry with her. She was patient and understanding and- no. I needed to focus. There were more important things to worry about.

Richard: Cafeteria

I sat at the table in the center of the room, swiftly reading 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck, despite the fact that I had completed the story many a time. It brought many things to my mind; the limits of friendship; the true meaning of compassion; and the darkness that the world is truly made of.
I had woken at half-five in the morning, the first to rise from slumber, and, instinctively, walked straight down to the cafeteria for breakfast. My hunger's absence yesterday had left an agonising pain in my stomach, so I found myself eating dry cornflakes; all milk had spoiled within weeks of the apocalypse. As I munched on the bland food, my mind was dragged back to the ordeal of yesterday, but more clearly the suggestions that I had meant to present to the group when they all managed to meet up. I gazed at the time on my phone- 7:00- had it really been an hour and a half already?

I shrugged and continued eating and thinking. Yes, solving the electricity cut would be essential, despite the fact that all plants were unmanned, no other homes in the area were using the electricity- what we had could last a decade. But, there was something wrong with the fuses in the school generator, so that needed to be solved by one of our gear-heads as soon as possible. Two scouting parties should also go out today, at least in groups of three- we needed weapons, ammunition and food, and that was a fact.

Footsteps on the hard floor alerted me to someone's presence. "Ah. Good morning, did you sleep well?"

I'd fallen asleep in the art department, my head resting on the table. I woke up to someone gentally shaking my shoulders. "Alex, wake up" Desmond said. I opened my eyes and groaned - even if I had fell asleep on a stool with my head resting on the table it felt like one of the best nights sleep I'd had in a long time.

My neck didn't agree though.

"Nick wants us in the canteen, like - now" He told me, I sat up properly and slid of the stool - rubbing my eyes and waiting to Desmond to stop looking at whatever I had drawn last night. "This is like - really good" He said.

"It's the first thing I've drawn in a year" I told him, before we set off down the corridors to the canteen. I didn't say much - mostly to avoid embarassing myself. I was still half asleep, meaning I'd probably end up slipping up and mentioning how good he looked without a shirt.

Everyone was already gathered, I sat on a table and Desmond sat down on the bench belonging to the table. Richard was the only one stood.

"I suggest that six of us go out today, we need supplies, canned foods and weapons - even if it's just a heavy tree branch. Split into two groups of three, and split into two directions" Desmond looked up at me in the way I would look at my friends in our drama group to silently say 'I'm going with you'

"Then the rest of us to stay and attempt to sort this electricity out - if we can sort the fuses out we should be able to use the towns electricity"

"Um sure." I sigh as take of my top and throw it on the floor. I look up at Cliff in question to see whats taking him so long to see him trying to avert his eyes. He coughs awkwardly then continues his inspection.

"All clear, no bites to be found."

He steps back and rubs his head looking down at the floor. I roll my eyes at his shyness, get up off the table and turn around to pick up my discarded top from the floor.

I don't bother to put it back on, i planned to head straight to the showers in the locker room to get all the blood off my skin, turning round to find him staring at me.

"Nice ink." He says and i grin in thanks and compliment his own ink work.

"Thanks, i like yours too a hummingbird right?"

"Yeah, for my mother."

I want to ask more but i think better of it and change the subject.

"Well thanks for the check-up but i'm going to hit the showers, anyone asks for me direct them that way."

He nods his head and i head off leaving him to there. After my shower i felt refreshed and clean. I got ready, leaving my hair wet, and exit the locker room just in time to see Aubry sneak off into the darkness.

I shake my head and make my way back to the cafeteria planning on having a long talk with her when she gets back. Even though i don't really talk with most of the group often, i get along with Aubry just fine. She is sweet and friendly and i think that if i wasn't so anti-social before the whole world went to s*** we would have been great friends.

Starting tomorrow when she gets back from her little trip, which i will neglect to tell Desmond about, she is going to get her first training session with me so if she wants to go on these little trips again she will be able to defend herself properly.

Aubry

Jog, jog jog, jog. Right leg then left leg then right again. The jogging has seriously been helping me gain my thoughts. I finally get sick and tired of listening to music and tug the headphones from my ears in annoyance. Its as soon as I take them out that I hear the steady flick flack of someones feet slapping the ground hard. For a second I get scared and freeze for about five seconds. I totally didn't think that any of the infected would catch me in the dark let alone hear my shoes since these were official running jordans that I had kept for cross country. I hide behind the nearest dumpster and watch the figure come closer and closer. I felt nervous sweat begin to drip from down my forehead to my temple.
Suddenly the figure stops and looks right and left before continuing to hurry after my scent. Its carryin something...a long metal stick of some sort...

"CLIFF!" I call out excitedly, jumping out at him in surprise. He tenses for a second and then realizes that its me and hugs me back. After a few seconds of hugging we both semi awkwardly step away from each other. I smile and blush then ask " So what are you doing out here?" I ask quietly.
Suddenly the soft look melts off his face and he suddenly looks really annoyed. "I was following you out because I didn't you to get hurt. Aubry you know that you can't fight so why would you come out here. Alone. With no weapon at all?" He ask angrily. I shrug and look down.
"I wanted to help the group by getting some supplies from my house." I say quietly now embarrassed but for a different reason. " Let's just say that my parents were very...prepared for something like this." I say. His face gets soft again and he sighs tiredly.
"Just next time you do something like this atleast tell someone first. I- I mean we wouldn't want something bad to happen to happen to you. You know we need you to patch up those small cuts and bruises we're constantly getting." He says jokingly. I roll my eyes at his corny excuse of a joke and continue jogging.
" we might as well continue on." I say jogging backwards to talk to him " We're only like two blocks away now." I say then continue jogging.
We reach my house and I get the spare key from under the flower pot right by the screen door and step inside. It looks the same inside that it had last time I've been here. Well everything except the thin layer of dust on everything. I sigh and continue on through the house right down to the basement.
" Your house is nice Aubry" Clifford says trying to fill in the silence. I offer him a weak smile and continue on. We reach the steel door at the bottom of the stairs and I put in the code that my dad had drilled in me since age seven. It opens with a whisper and the lights flick on inside.
" Aubry..." Cliff whispers.
" Yeah dude?" I ask nonchallantly, heading towards the closet on the other side of the room to get some duffel bags.
" Why...do...you guys....have...a wall full of guns?" He asks softly.
" Oh you know, military stuff and crap." I state tossing him a bag.

You would expect people to double defense in the wake of a major attack, but not my team, no. I grabbed my barbell and started a run around the perimeter, not bothering to announce my departure. The grounds seemed clear, but I was not even done yet. I rounded a corner of the school and heard something on the edge of my hearing. My heart gave one big thump and I slowed from my sprint into a jog. When I heard it again I gripped my barbell.

"Cliff!"

Aubry jumps out of the shadows and engulfs me in a hug, I catch her around her waist and we just stand there. Slowly, I let her down and step away. My heart settles out of hyper-drive and she explains herself. Sometime later she leads me into the woods to her house. I didn't even know she had a place out here. This isn't something that should have been kept secret from the rest of the group, especially not with all this time passed, but I can see why she didn't go shouting the existence of this place out to everyone. We all have our secrets...

There are weapons everywhere, like she said, her parents were well prepared. I can tell they went out with a bang once the infected came knocking. I feel my heart ache for her suddenly, to be without your parents and so helpless. She must have been scared.

"Aubry..."

She leads me into another room and my previous statement dies on my tongue.

"Yeah dude?"

"Why... do... you guys... have... a wall full of guns?"

"Oh, you know, military stuff and crap."

She tosses me a bag and I clutch it in my hand.

"Hnn... we should let the others know this is there."

I walk up to the wall and run my hand across one of the guns, purely from my days on Black Ops I can tell it's a semi-automatic. I look back at Aubry, suddenly smiling more than I can help.

"You mind?"

She shrugs and I take it off the wall.

"This is freaking awesome, Aubry." I put it back on the wall though, despite how much I want to keep it, and start packing in canned goods from the kitchen where she is.

"We need to get you trained," I state suddenly after a comfortable silence. "No offense, but we can't have you huddling in corners after every raid. We won't always be there to save you. I can teach you how to fight."
