Name: Richard Burrows

Age: 16

Description: Six feet tall with large shoulders and a generally stocky build. Has fair skin with dark blonde hair that has started to adopt hints of brown and deep auburn, that falls across his forehead, but I swept across to the left to cover up much of his spots. His face has visible acne- more visible around the forehead and jawline- and wide emerald green eyes that seem relaxed, but are truly scrutinising and harsh.

Personality: He is a strongly independent person, but by no means does he underestimate teamwork. As much as he is cold and ruthless occasionally, he has a kind and open side too- but it will be very rarely seen. He can communicate well and he has a fairly average stamina but has a lot of upper-body strength, which brings a fair bit of arrogance and elitism. The most dangerous feature about Richard is his temper: when he lets fly (which can happen fairly easily if he is provoked), he is completely oblivious to those around him, and will not hesitate to hurt others to achieve his goal. Although he can be charming, this is often just a disguise used to distract his fellow survivors from the fact that he is simply using them, which is his strongest point- his cunning (which can be focused into traps and game plans.

History: Born and raised in Colchester, a large town in England, Richard came to America following the end of his exams with his girlfriend, who wanted to meet a family friend in the year below them. Richard obliged and left his father and brother at the hotel he stayed in and snuck into the school over the gates. At first he and his partner didn’t realise that anything was wrong, but when the students around them turned savage, he tried his hardest to protect her and survive. Despite this, she was bitten, and when Richard managed to secure safety inside a storage cupboard, she converted in his arms, and he was required to kill her.

He was found in the room by the band of survivors, and he realised that the only way he’d survive this ordeal was to group with them… even if he didn’t want to.

Weapon: Richard had carried around his father’s hunting knife in case there was any sign of trouble- America was not a place he trusted. He treasures it and has been taught by his ex-military dad how to kill people swiftly and effectively with blades.

Skillset: Richard is an intellectual, and can certainly be very quick in his thoughts, but his talent is in his ability with knives, and out of combat, he is quite the tactician and practicalist.

Other: Richard hasn’t really recovered from the loss of his girlfriend, so love isn’t on the cards at this moment in time. If he does get over the trauma, he is straight but not very romantic; more interested in the physical aspects of a relationship.

Name: Desmond Grey

Age: 17

Description: 6'0", slightly built. He has light green eyes and black hair. He hasn't shaved in a while so he has some stubble on his cheeks and chin. Semi-pale skin. He's wearing a v-neck grey t-shirt with 'The Who' on it, a black leather jacket, dark blue jeans, and black boots. He's half-Italian, half-English.

Personality: Desmond is a natural born leader; calm, smart, and won't take no for an answer. He's very headstrong and stubborn, and he thinks he knows best. He's very sarcastic, especially when he's angry. Beneath his tough exterior he's a real sweetheart, but you really have to get to know him. He has a good sense of humor, but nowadays he rarely smiles or laughs and he takes everything seriously. His normally calm demeanor dissipates and he becomes flustered around pretty girls.

History: His mom died after his little sister Gabriella was born, so it was just them and his dad. His dad, a member of the Mafia, was a wanted man in Boston, so when Desmond was six, he left the Mafia and then the state. He changed their last names from Marino to Grey (Desmond's mom's maiden name) and even changed his first name from Luca to Louis. A week after they left, the police arrested the other Mafia members. One day, ten years later, Desmond and Gabriella came home to find their father dead, his throat slit. The other members had been released and had found and killed him as revenge.

Desmond got two jobs and dropped out of high school to provide for him and his sister. He was angry and bitter that he couldn't go to college (where he had hoped to become a doctor) but kept it from his sister. When the infection broke out, he did his best to keep Gabriella safe, but one day she simply disappeared. He had left to get food and firewood, and when he returned she was missing. He waited for almost two days before he gave up and left, eventually finding the school.

Weapon: Thompson 1928. It was his dad's old gun, originally his grandfather's when he was in the Mafia. His dad taught him how to use a gun when he was ten, and he had a whole safe full of artillery. When the infection started, Desmond grabbed the Tommy gun and as much ammo as he could fit in his backpack, figuring it was better to just carry that and have as much ammo as possible.

Skillset: Desmond is very good at first-aid. He's also strong and fairly nimble. He knows a few hand-to-hand combat techniques as well.

Apologies for the lack of length, but we are started!

Ryder Hale--Gymnasium

Sitting on the top of the folded up bleachers, I scan the outside through the slim slot between the wooden boards covering the thick pane of glass. Scattered undead trudge around throughout the back lot, listening in wait of the slight sound that meant their next meal was around. My stomach no longer churns at the sight of them, used to their decaying appearances, but depresses me instead.

We're stuck here, and they're the reason why.

I shift my bow in my hands and across my back, silently moving into a crouch, and then release a sigh. Checking the time on my watch, I turn and gracefully drop down the steps until reaching the floor. I head out of the gymnasium doors in search of the others, tired of keeping watch.
I'm never what I like
I'm double sided
And I just can't hide
I kind of like it
When I make you cry
'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up
Inside

Semiautomatic

I ran into Ryder while strolling through the halls.

"Where's everyone else?" he asked, adjusting his bow along his shoulder.

"The cafeteria," I said. "Anything happen during the watch?"

He shook his head, and we headed towards the cafeteria. A few people were talking, and some practicing with their weapons.

"Alright, whose turn is it to go on watch?" I asked.

Freya sighed. "Do we really need to someone on watch right now? Nothing ever happens anyways. I'm sure we can relax for a few hours."

My eyes narrowed. "We've been lucky. We don't know if or when they'll break in, and we shouldn't take chances."

"Well no one wants to go on watch," she said, crossing her arms.

"Well I doubt you all want to be caught off-guard by an attack," I murmured.

Everyone looked down, not wanting to admit I'm right and not wanting to volunteer to go on watch.

Clifford Jamers - Cafeteria

"Well no one wants to go on watch."

No one on watch? Now, that was just silly. It seems that everytime someone else makes a decision it's a stupid one. Don't get me wrong, I respected my fellow survivors and it takes a lot to live through something that's killed so many people, but seriously? Really, no watch?

I sighed and grabbed my barbell, standing up from my un-eaten breakfast. I walked over to the group of three, Desmond, Freya, and Ryder, and gave each, Freya in particular, a pointed glare.

"I bet some of the zombies wandering around out there didn't want to go on watch either," I hissed. I rolled my eyes at all of them and grabbed the binoculars from Ryder's neck. "I'm going."

I walked away and shook my head at them. None of us would last much longer with attitudes like that.

Ricks POV:

It was precisely 365 days, one year, since I lost everything. My parents and family were gone, my boyfriend killed to, and even my house infested with zombies. I ran here on that day and hoped to be safe. The same day where I met all these people who shared the same problem...Zombies destroyed their lives. Now, when noone was willing to watch for those evil creatures that once were family, I knew how those people in the zombie movies felt. I knew how everyone felt and didn't blame them. But seeing noone willing to watch also made me decide I wanted to watch, just to bring meaning into my life again.

As I went to speak up, Clifford said he would watch. After he started heading out, I ran up to him and told him I would watch. I needed to feel a purpose again and this would work for now. I told him if he wanted to have the roof watch, feel free. I was heading into the front of the horde to dwindle the numbers some. I also found some flamable materials and a lighter, so I decided to also take a walk around the school and reform our temporary fire barrier. I proceeded to walk outside and perform my watch and barrier placement. Its too bad noone else cares about our lives.

I was too busy reminiscing on the times that had gone; things that, although were not particularly happy times, I would give anything to relive right now, to even realise that someone was adressing me. It was only when angry growls happened to snap me from the daydream that I realised we required a volunteer for guard duty.

"I'm going."

I looked up at Clifford as he walked away, sighing and leaning back into my chair. I didn't feel like eating, even though it would have done me some good, so I decided to rest up instead, before I would volunteer to go on duty next (despite the fact it would make more sense for at least two to work in case of a medical emergency… or worse).

I laid down on the small bed in the medical room- not the nicest smelling place, but it would suffice. The walls were cream and stark of decoration, save for a few posters of the human anatomy. I found myself suddenly drowsy, so I decided I’d hit the hay. I snatched my phone from my pocket and set an alarm for two O’clock, then shut the door, placing a doorstop wedge into the crook to stop any zombies (or other people) from getting in. By the time my head hit the pillow, I was asleep.

I watched as they argued about who was gonna be on watch and stuff. I wish I knew how to fight or something. Maybe that would make them all happier. There is way to much doom and gloom here and someone needed to put a smile on these guy's face's. Especially Freya. I didn't know that it was possible for someone to scowl 24/7. But she's nice to me which is alright i guess. Suddenly everyone gets quiet as Clifford gets up and walks out.
He's kinda nice to so I get up and follow him to ask if he's okay. Walking through the dark hallways always creeps me out. And we voted not to use the generators unless theres a problem or emergency. When i get to the bleachers I look up at Clifford and call up "I'm comin up dude!" and approach him.

Slinging my gun safely across my shoulder, I grabbed a muffin from the breakfast table. The fact that we hadn't been attacked since we found the high school made me antsy. The zombies hadnt even really attempted to get in the building. I had a feeling that it wouldn't be long before something bad happened. I sat down on the ground and chewed my muffin, lost in thought.

"Mind if I join you?"

I looked up to see Arden. "Umm, sure," I stammered, moving my backpack to the side.

She sat down neatly, folding her legs. She looked at me seriously. "Is something wrong? You look worried."

I sighed. "I just can't shake the feeling that we're going to be attacked soon, and it's not going to be pretty."

She nodded. "I've had that feeling too. But nothing's happened so far."

"I know. That's what scares me."

Clifford Jamers---

"I'll watch too."

I turned around and looked at Rick, letting my glare and frown soften, not wanting to direct at anyone who didn't deserve it.

"How," I asked, my voice harsher than intended. I was still angry over the laziness of our team. I didn't seem to phase him, though.

"Head out to the front of the hoard and reform our barriers."

"Hm. Be careful." I clapped him once on the shoulder and he ran off. I continued towards the roof.

--

Keeping the walkers at bay from such a high place with no range weapons was hard, when they started pressing the barriers there was not much I could do here with my barbell, and running all the way back downstairs and to the front of the line took to long. We only left that a problem for a week when we'd all first gathered here before building a ladder. Whether the walkers could climb or not, we didn't know. I don't want to find out.

I took another swig from my water bottle and decided to scan the perimeter again, and, because you can never be too safe, I checked the bottom of the ladder. I'm not prone to girlish cries of terror, but when I say Aubry's face starring up at me through the binoculars (unexpected) I let one go.

"I'm coming up dude," she yelled up to me and my heart beat slowed as I chided myself for being silly.

When she made it to the top of the roof I smiled and nodded, offering her the empty school desk beside me.

"Hey."

Twyla Halley|Cafeteria

"Well, looks like we're all really happy," I muttered to myself. Everyone seemed to be in a sour mood...not that they didn't get to be, but still...

Clifford was the only one to volunteer for watch duty, although a few others followed him as he stalked out of the cafeteria. I had only been on watch once, and while it was an important job, I understood why people didn't like it. Watch got very boring very quickly if one didn't see anything, and either way, it made everyone paranoid.

I was sitting at a long cafeteria table, across from Alicia, who was munching on a granola bar, and Ryder, who was inspecting his bow. "You know," I mused, speaking to myself as much as to Ryder and Alicia, "the watch is great, but don't you think we need a backup warning system, too? I mean, one person can only watch one area. We ought to have something else, too."

"Like what?" Ryder prompted. He sounded tired.

"Like a tripwire-type thing," I answered. "Something that will spring automatically and let us know something got in no matter where we are in the building. A loud sound, maybe." I thought for a moment. I could do that with chemicals, couldn't I?

"Nitrogen triiodide!" I exclaimed. "It's a contact explosive. Sounds like a gunshot. What about that?"

"Nitrogen triodide!" I heard from the table I was sat on, I looked over to Twyla - where had I heard that before?

"Is that the one that gives off a purple gas too?" I asked, suddenly. They looked at me in slight shock since I didn't exactly butt into conversations much, this was a rare moment - they should cherish it. Twyla nodded, I jumped off the table and I walked over to her, Ryder and Alicia. "That would be good, we won't be able to confuse it with someone's gun then" I said.

Twyla gave a slight smile, before I remembered one last thing from the Chemistry lesson I had learned about Nitrogen Triiodide. "One problem, it's super sensitve. Anyone could set it off on accident" They sighed, agreeing with me.

"I guess we could always go with the classic string and empty cans until you come up with a solution?" I suggested, with a slight smile - trying not to come off as cold. I wanted to make some friends here at least.

"Good point," I said to Alex. Nitrogen triiodide would go off if you blew on it too hard. "Do you think cans would be loud enough, though? You'd hear NI3 from across the building, but I don't know about cans..."

"Can we have both?" Ryder asked. "We'd probably want two, in case one failed."

"Hmm." Ryder was right--what if there were smart zombies that could learn to avoid a tripwire or a line of NI3?

"Well, as long as we put the NI3 in a place where no one will set it off, we can do both," I mused. "We can put cans farther in, where we're more likely to hear them, and the NI3 can go right inside all the doors to the outside. ...I've never actually made a can trap, though, so Alex would probably have to do that. And I should make sure the chemistry lab actually has all the stuff we need to make NI3. ...How does that sound?"

Chris

I stood there, against the wall, listening to the happenings; the watch talk and the trap theories. With my sword under my wrists, resting on my sholder. I tried to let my mind wander and free myself from this f***ed up world, but i didn't, no I couldn't. I hadn't eaten in a day in a half, I was revolted, revolted by a memory, no a nightmare or what I felt like it was.

Instead of my mind wandering, it went to a terrible memory, not of my family, i wasn't saddened by that, they told i should waver and lose my ground, get eatened or worse. it was before i met the group, i was stuck in a small building, they were crouding the building, i found my sword, a transcription on the blade meaning (shaken), i took the blade and ran past them slashing two with the blade. Then I saw her, a little girl, bloody and infected, she came at me so fast i had to defend myself. I killed a little girl, her body bloody and mangled.

I opened my eyes to see everyone the same, my hands were shaking, violently; eyes opened wide, gripping my sword, like I was surrounded by them. But no one noticed me feeling crazed, sicken. I walked swiftly, quietly, but discreatly. After I left the cafeteria, I ran to the bathroom, feeling sick, pail; i ran past Alicia, she moved just in time, legs already knew the course, I couldn't stop them. I ran into the bathroom and vomited. I found a corner and went into the fetal position. Shaking, even though it was hot i was ice cold, I could barely think, I lowered my head and passed out, the thoughts were to much.
(I might be a little morbid and what not)
