Emmett
All right; let me indulge you in my selfishness for a moment. Looking through those pictures on Jane's phone- well, I was horrifed- but then, some part of me thought; God, I'm so screwed. 'Cause the fact was... I was unscrewed, if you get what I mean. It's not like I was completely chaste- I've had my share of hot stuff- but it's been a damn small share. It's never really bothered me to much- I mean, until Lacey got pregnant...
Ah, Lace. She's standing there, frozen, lips pursued. Seeing her, and that small bump in her chest, reminded me about the scumbag I should be fighting aganist in my head- Drake.
"I'm going to do something to that guy." I mutter to myself. "Scumbag."
I'm not very strong, and ran Cross Country up until Junor year- so I'm at least sorta-fast. Threatening? Not at all. The way Jane's shoulders seemed to relax at my words made things better, even if the worst thing I could do to the guy would be to outwit him until his brain cells hurt.
Which is always a possibility.
"What are you going to do?" Lacey's voice was soft, hesistant, like she knew she shouldn't be talking but was going to do it anyway.
"I..." Jane seems to think the question is directed at her. "I don't know... I can't... I mean... Emmett... I don't want to."
The hot chocolate tastes bitter on my tongue as I pick it up and take a sip. My brain is working at a thousand miles an hour. Guys like Drake, who treat girl like their sex toys...I 've never liked them. I've stood up aganist a few of them, but I've never exacted revenge. I don't even like revenge.
I liked Jane, though.
Lacey looked at me expectently. She knew exactly who her question was directed at. Her caramel eyes got that sparkly look to them, like she knew she was in for a ride she couldn't wait to get on. I'd gotten in trouble so many times because of those eyes. I couldn't see the look in Jane's eyes- I couldn't read them, but I could see the cloudy.
It's time for undercover Emmett. I sigh. No choice, right? The worst thing could get is another black eye and a sense of 'hey, at least I tried.' "Where did he say this party was again an- uh- how badly do you want to exact revenge?"
We all sit back down. Lacey shuffles back into the seat across from Jane and I, her eyes sparkly. Great. Just Great. Had to bring along my sister. Jane is shaking, and I take her hand.
Lacey leans on her elbows. "What's the plan, brother?"
"Jane could agree." This is my least favorite part. Jane yanks her hand away, terrified. "But not show up. Drake could just wait in a designated room and, well, how much does Drake believe in Ghost stories?"
